Chapter 99 Look After You
Grayson's POV
Oh fuck! I can't wait too long here. I have to go back with Quinn. I have to help her. She might have a hard time dealing with my mother.
And I don't want her to endure the discomfort and difficulty here any longer. So I packed our things, including the gift for my mother.
I'll take Quinn away right after this. It doesn't matter if my mother asks me to stay longer. If Quinn isn't comfortable, then I won't let her stay here any longer.
Okay, all our things are in the bag I'm carrying. I'm ready to leave with Quinn.
But when I open the door, Quinn is also pushing it open.
"Grayson."
"Quinn?"
We say at the same time. I then let her go first. "You go first."
Quinn saw the bag in my hand. "Where are you going?"
"Home. Mom must have said a lot of things that hurt your feelings. So I don't want you to suffer more if you stay here."
Quinn took the bag from my hand. "That's not true. I'm not suffering. Well, even though your mom hasn't fully accepted me yet, that's normal, it takes time. We can't go home now anyway because it's snowing heavily."
Believing that this was Quinn's only reason, I immediately ran to the window.
Oh, it was true, it was snowing. Even the yard was white and the snow was piled high.
"Do you see that? If we force ourselves to go home, it will only endanger us. I don't want anything to happen to you. So it's better if we wait a little longer to leave." Quinn approached me and hugged me from behind. "Besides, this is your home, Grayson. It's not a strange place for you."
That part was true, but Quinn didn't know that this house was also something I avoided. Why? Because it held many memories, both with my twin and my parents.
Because there were so many beautiful and unrepeatable memories, I couldn't stay here any longer. It was too painful to remember. How a very harmonious family fell apart when my brother left.
"Grayson," Quinn called in a very soft voice. "Calm down, nothing bad is happening here. I'm here, with you."
I sighed and rubbed Quinn's cold palm. "You don't understand, Quinn."
"Then make me understand."
I didn't know if it was right or wrong to let Quinn know about one of my weaknesses. I was just... afraid she would leave me.
"What are you worried about if everything is fine?"
If I told Quinn about this, she would be the first person to know about my trauma.
"You said I was precious to you. I'm also your girlfriend. Don't you want to share your worries with me?"
I finally turned to face her. I wrapped my arms around her waist. "I just always remember the past that is here. I remember what our family was like when my twin was still alive. And all of that is my trauma that I'm trying to heal. But when I visit this place again, it feels like the sadness is coming back."
Quinn blinked several times and then hugged me very tightly. "Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know that was the real reason. If I had known, I wouldn't have agreed to your invitation."
I rubbed Quinn's back. "There's nothing wrong with you, Quinny. You just accepted my invitation, and I brought you here. So all of this is a consequence I have to bear."
I kept reassuring Quinn because her heart is so soft that she must feel very guilty.
I rubbed her hair and back and kissed her face repeatedly. "Don't be sad, okay?"
Quinn pursed her lips, her eyes glistening. "How can I not be sad if you're sad too?"
"Hey, I'm fine. I'm just remembering, it doesn't mean I'm sad." I flashed my widest smile. "See, I'm fine."
Quinn pinched my chest instead. "You're lying. You're trying to hide it."
I chuckled and shook my head. Then I hugged her and immediately sank out of sight. "So how did your conversation go? Did my mom ask about your family again?"
"We talked about a few things. And yeah, you're right, your mom asked about that again."
"You didn't answer, did you?"
"I answered, Grayson. I didn't want to lie. Besides, it's not a disgrace, so I don't think I need to hide it. It's just the truth that she'll find out sooner or later."
Even though Quinn didn't say anything bad about my mother and acted as if everything was fine, I could strongly sense that she was trying to appear strong.
"Isn't a healthy relationship one where there are no lies between the two people? I just want to make that happen."
Oh, look at my Quinn, she's so kind-hearted. She could have followed me and hated my mother, but she had a different opinion.
I was absolutely right in guessing that Quinn had an angelic heart from the start.
"All right, all right. You can answer however you want. I believe in you. You will and always do your best."
Quinn smiled, showing her bunny teeth. "Thank you."
I couldn't help but pinch her cheek. "What if I take you somewhere in this house? Would you like that?"
"I'd love it if you did. But are you okay? I mean, what if it makes you even sadder?"
"Not anymore. I think you're right, Quinny. The past should be left in the past and just be a memory. Now I'm living in the present, and that's what's more important."
Quinn tapped my nose. "You're growing up fast."
I chuckled. "I am grown up. More grown up than you."
“Okay, so where do you want to take me, G-stone?”
“G-stone?”
“Yeah, because you’re as stubborn as a stone.”
Oh my gosh, that’s such a funny nickname. I liked it!
“So where?”
I pulled Quinn’s hand to get out of my room. “You’ll find out later, Quinny.”
