Chapter 96 A Tense Situation
Quinn's POV
Mrs. Talon no longer responded to me. She sat down immediately.
Meanwhile, when I was about to take the food that was already prepared, Grayson pushed my hand away.
"Let me serve it. You sit nicely with mom. Okay?"
"But Grayson–"
"No, it's okay. You're my guest here. I can't have you cooking and serving food." Grayson rubbed my arm. "Don't be too nice."
I sighed heavily. "Fine." Then I took off my apron and walked out of the kitchen. Once again, I turned to look at Grayson. He signaled with his hand that everything was fine, that he could handle it.
Meanwhile, I sat across from Mrs. Talon, who was reading a magazine. I didn't know if it was appropriate to start a conversation at this moment. So I remained silent and stared at her.
I didn't know if the werewolf gene had an effect or not, but Mrs. Talon didn't look like she had a child as big as Grayson.
When I looked at her up close like this, I rarely saw any wrinkles on her face. And she was even more beautiful up close than when I saw her from afar that time.
I was really surprised that Mr. Talon left a woman as beautiful and talented as Mrs. Talon. And sometimes that made me think about Grayson a thousand times.
I was afraid Grayson would follow in his father's footsteps. I was afraid he would leave me when I was at the peak of my love for him.
When that happens, I probably won't know what to do anymore. I can't imagine having to start my life over without him. That would be very difficult. But I also pray that it won't happen.
"Is there something interesting about my face, Ms. Roux?"
Oh my god, what am I doing! I didn't realize I had been staring at Mrs. Talon for too long and maybe too intensely.
Okay, I had to calm down. I couldn't appear nervous and flustered. I had to answer correctly and firmly.
Before opening my mouth, I smiled. "I admire your beauty, Mrs. Talon. It's not because I'm Grayson's girlfriend or trying to win your heart, but that's just the way it is. You look like you're my age, you look very young."
Mrs. Talon put the magazine on the table. Then she brushed her loose hair forward. "How old are you, Ms. Roux?"
Ooh. It seems I asked the wrong question because now I'm the one who's cornered.
Will she be mad if I tell her my real age? I mean, Grayson and I have a huge age gap. And I'm worried she'll think I'm a sugar baby. Really.
But if I don't answer, it will look suspicious. Besides, I'm sure if I lie or don't answer, Mrs. Talon will immediately find my complete profile, just like Grayson did.
Therefore, I decided to answer. But first, I glanced at Grayson. "I'm 21 and will be 22 at the end of this year."
I could see the surprise on Mrs. Talon's face. Her finger touched the edge of the magazine with her nails dug into it. "What do you do for a living, Ms. Roux?"
"I'm a massage therapist. But after leaving the hospital, I worked part-time at several places, including Frost Maple. But now–”
“Oh, so you’re a worker on my son’s team. Then you met Grayson there?”
“That’s right, Mrs. Talon.”
“Then who are you a therapist for there, and how did you two first meet?”
Oh no, this was a very tricky question. If I answered truthfully, Mrs. Talon would know that I was Grayson’s therapist, and that certainly wasn’t a good thing. Why? Because a therapist cannot sleep with their client. It's unethical.
But if I lie, what answer should I give? What if Mrs. Talon then confirms with the people there about how long I've been working and other things?
Gosh, I don't know what to say. I looked at Grayson for help.
Luckily, Grayson caught my signal. So then he came here with a food trolley.
Outside of this increasingly heated conversation, Grayson arranged the tacos we made earlier very beautifully, like in a restaurant.
He then gave each of us a plate and a glass. Only then did he sit down next to me.
"Ma," he called. He then took a bite of his taco. "Try it. It's delicious."
"No. I'm talking to Ms. Roux and still waiting for her answer."
I swallowed hard. I was ready to give my answer because it seemed that Grayson's attempt to change the subject had failed. But before I could say a word, Grayson spoke again.
"I know. But try it first. Quinn will answer you after that."
I looked at Grayson in disbelief. I thought he would help me answer. But instead, he was busy asking Mrs. Talon to eat.
Ugh, if this is the case, does that mean he wants me to tell the truth? Does he really not care if his mother finds out about our forbidden relationship?
Well, even though I no longer work as his therapist, she's asking about the past, not what's happening now.
"Quinn, you eat too. Let's have breakfast first," Grayson said again.
I tried to calm myself down. Drinking was my first choice, and after that I would eat.
But I wasn't focused on the taste of the taco in my mouth, but on Mrs. Talon's expression as she ate it.
She didn't say anything, didn't protest. She looked quiet.
I moved my fingers behind my shoes, waiting for her reaction. I really needed validation that I hadn't done anything wrong by preparing breakfast for her.
Mrs. Talon then wiped her mouth with a napkin but didn't say anything after that.
But then Grayson confirmed it to me by whispering. "That means it's good. If mom is silent, it's good."
