Chapter 48 Total Chaos!
Grayson's POV
Fuck! Why do I have to be stuck here alone with Quinn?
For the past few days, I've been avoiding her on purpose to soothe my disappointment when I found out she intended to terminate our contract and work for another player on the other team. But today, I had to face her again because I got injured during practice.
Damn knee! Because of you, I must hold myself back from hugging Quinn, who is currently looking down glumly.
Nevertheless, I have to endure it, even though I can't bear to see Quinn sad. This is all about pride, trust, and loyalty.
I want Quinn to know that my trust is precious and not something she can play with. I want her to at least admit her mistake and apologize so I can give her a second chance. But instead of an apology, I got a defense.
The evidence was clear, complete, from photos, videos, to voice recordings. It was crystal clear that Quinn indeed planned to switch teams.
What I still don't understand is why she had to switch teams. The salary I gave her was fantastic. Not to mention the fact that I had tried my best to be nice to her lately. I even took care of her brother and tried my best to help him recover. I also helped her find a more comfortable place to live. So I really had no idea why Quinn wanted to leave me.
Or, could it be because she’s not satisfied with me in bed and wants to seek pleasure with another Alpha who will be a new player on another team? Ah, I don’t think she’s that kind of woman.
Or, does she think I’m too old for her, so she’s bored and wants to find someone her own age? No. That’s not it. I’m still young. I’m only 30.
Argh, I just don't know! I might go crazy thinking about it.
The point is, I'm extremely disappointed with Quinn for destroying the trust I placed in her. I seriously don't want to see her right now. At least not until she apologizes.
Thought Quinn would bring new hope to me. Thought she would break my assumption that all women are like Kelly, only bringing pain and trauma. But it turns out she's the same. Turns out she also betrayed me and intends to leave me.
Indeed, it's true. I can't rely on anyone, especially humans. They're the best at causing pain. Hoping only makes me weak and soft. And I hate myself for being soft.
“I don’t know who told you, but I’m sure someone just wants to ruin our relationship.”
I laughed to myself. I didn’t expect her to still deny it. I didn’t expect my fated mate to be such a smooth liar.
“I don’t need extra money. I just need you to trust me. That’s all, Gray Bear.”
Hearing that nickname now sounded so annoying. It no longer felt special after what she did behind my back was exposed. It even sounded like a mockery.
"I know you aren't sleeping and you're listening to me. I don't know what your decision will be, but if you think I'm guilty and you can't trust me anymore, then I'll resign. I guess you've already found another woman who can replace me to fulfill your superstition."
Wait, why is she the one getting angry? Why does it seem like I'm the bad guy here? Also, this discussion isn't about me finding her replacement, but about the honesty I've been waiting for from her.
Oh come on, Quinn. I can't believe you're doing this.
“The manager will accompany you. I’ll leave because my job making sure you arrive safely and without pain is done. See you.”
Before I could say anything, Quinn already jumped out of the ambulance as soon as it stopped. She didn’t look back, walking straight ahead with her body slightly hunched and her hair messy.
“Hey, you little brat! Just lie down and don’t move!” The manager forced me to lie down again as the nurses pushed my gurney.
Fuck! You shouldn’t feel guilty, Grayson! You’re the one who’s the victim here!
I roughly wiped my face. Everything was a mess. The game and my heart, everything was in chaos!
“Grayson, what happened?”
Oh, that woman again. I regret telling her I was in this hospital. Now she probably feels important in my life again. Look, she’s even trying to look concerned by following me.
I pushed her hand away when she tried to touch me. “Keep your hands off me.”
“Grayson, I’m so worried about you. When you answered my call and I heard the ambulance siren, my heart nearly jumped out of my chest.”
I sighed irritably. “Almost? The proof is that you can still walk. Don’t exaggerate things.”
“I’m not exaggerating. I just really care about you.”
I winced as I was moved to another bed. “Go home. I don’t need you here. My manager is with me.”
“Oh, hello, Ms. Kelly.”
“Why did you tell me you were in this hospital if you didn’t need me here? Don’t lie, Grayson. I know you want us to go back together.”
I was forced to sit down and grab her arm. Women like Kelly are much more stubborn than Quinn. She won't understand with just a normal warning. "I told you because you asked. Don't make me unleash all the anger I've been holding back. Leave.”
As expected, she refused and shook her head. “I canceled an important appointment to come here to see you. So I’ll stay with you until the examination is over. Can I, manager?”
“Oh, sure, of course you can accompany Grayson.”
Damn it, this manager can’t be relied on. He could have refused. Just because Kelly once worked as an intern at Frost Maple, he immediately gave permission. This is ridiculous! That was ten years ago. Move on, manager!
Without my permission, Kelly grabbed my hand and kissed it!
She then knelt beside my gurney and looked at me with teary eyes. "I'm so sorry, I made you lose your trust in women so much that you couldn't date anyone until now. At that time, I really had to leave with my parents. But don't worry, now I'm back and I'll never leave you again, Grayson. I'll always be by your side. I'll be back to keep you company."
