Chapter 39 Good For You

Chapter 39 Good For You
Quinn's POV

Grayson laughed. "If they report me to the cops, then I'm glad."

"What? You're pleased to be in jail?" I asked in disbelief.

Grayson flicked my nose this time. He also shook his head. "If anyone should be afraid, it's them. They're criminals and I'm not."

"But if you kill them, then you're a criminal too, Grayson," I eyed.

"But they're still alive, right? So I'm not a criminal," he said with some annoyance. "They're stupid for messing with me."

That's right, they're fools. They were looking for the wrong opponent. A Grayson to fight? Not only did they get beaten up, they also almost lost their lives.

I still remembered how ferocious Grayson was last night. He showed another side, a more wild side than when he was at the rink. It got to the point where I thought he might shift. But luckily that didn't happen.

If Grayson had shifted, I don't know what I would have done. I'd probably be even more terrified than I was last night and just freeze in place. I probably wouldn't have been able to prevent him from stopping if he was shifted.

This man lying in front of me right now is really terrible when he's angry. It's like he can turn the world upside down and ruffle its contents. And now I knew enough not to mess with him.

"They are the ones who should be afraid." He landed one hand by his side. "They broke the agreement. They're still bothering you after all the debts have been paid."

My thin smile faded instantly upon hearing that.

I mean, how did Grayson know that they were loan sharks? I didn't understand how Grayson knew that I had paid all my debts to them. And as for the agreement he was referring to, I don't know what it was. Because me and the loan shark boss didn't have any agreement other than proof of loan and payment.

Or, perhaps, Grayson has known about my debt for a long time? But from where? I don't remember telling him. All this time I just said that I needed a lot of money but I never told him what I used it for.

I never told Grayson about my personal life. I set boundaries and made sure he didn't know about my life outside of work. I don't even remember Grayson meeting those bastards, so I think it's highly unlikely that he knew about my debt.

Now I'm also thinking about the meaning of his question about Dylan yesterday. That question didn't seem like it came out of nowhere, but it seemed like it was planned. It sounded like he wanted to confirm something.

Or could it be that Grayson had actually met them when he drove me home drunk on the day of the team dinner? But if that's true, why didn't he tell me? He also only talked about my old flat without mentioning those bastards when I woke up in the morning.

There was something strange and missing here.

It seemed like Grayson was hiding something from me.

I moved his hand that was behind my head. "What agreement? No, first of all, how do you know I owe their loan shark boss? Secondly, how do you know I paid off all my debts to them before moving into the new flat?"

"Wait, what do you mean?"

I chuckled. I thought what I was asking was very clear and very easy to understand. Unless he was pretending to be stupid.

"I never made an agreement with them. I also don't remember telling you about my debt and even then I managed to pay it off."

"No Quinn, let's not talk about that."

I immediately sat up because this conversation was too heated to be done lying down like this. He then sat down too.

"Your debt was paid off the day you came to the S-T Arena."

What! What else is this? I didn't even know that!

"Did you find out more about me than what you should know as my boss?" I asked incredulously. This was too much of a shock. Because if it's already paid off, why are they still billing me and accepting my money? If it's already paid off, I should be the first to know!

Grayson squeezed his hair. "I've paid off your debt since then. Okay, you’re right about me finding out about you, but I made sure it didn't bother you. I just wanted to know about you."

"You made a deal with them and didn't tell me about it beforehand." I moved my body away from him. "You know that's an invasion of privacy right? What do you really want from me by doing all that, Grayson?"

"Fuck! Those assholes lied to me!" he swore, looking frustrated.

I laughed discordantly. "So instead of explaining to me, you're regretting the money you probably wasted helping me?"

Grayson stopped what he was doing and looked at me with glaring eyes. "That amount of money is nothing to me. But it's their promises that piss me off. Argh, I'll kill them if I see them again. You're like this, twice hurt, because of a debt that's already been settled."

"You know Grayson," I said then. I looked at him deeply. "You've overstepped the boundaries I set. You violated my privacy."

"Listen to me, I'm doing this because I don't want them to bother you anymore because if you're bothered, you're not doing your best, if you're not doing your best, then it's my loss. I also always look into the backgrounds of the people I work with, not just you."

"And you also pay off all their debts like you did mine?"

"I don't care if they have debts like you or not. I don't treat them the same as you."

"Why?"

"Because they are not valuable to me."

"And you think I'm valuable to you?"

For some reason waiting for the answer to come out of his mouth made my heart race. I don't want to be overconfident but his actions make me feel special. And I really wanted to know why that was, why I was treated differently and why he was so good to me.

"You're more than precious. You're the key to my victory."

Oh or maybe I was just overconfident. In fact, in his eyes I was just a woman he used to achieve his desires.

I smiled wryly. "Tell me what else you've done to my life without my knowledge."

"Okay, I was wrong for not asking your permission. I apologize. But it was for your own good. They're the ones who are bastards and greedy for taking advantage of the situation to cheat me."

I let out a harsh sigh. "Are you always going to be like that? Doing whatever you want whether I like it or not?"

Grayson looked shocked. "So you don't like it?"

"Yeah, I don't like your initiative. My life is mine, your life is yours. Don't try to flip that," I said firmly.

Then I was completely cornered in the corner of the bed. "Answer my question. What else have you done that I don't know about?"

It honestly felt like what Grayson did was disappointing. I felt as if he was making light of me. I feel like he doesn't believe I can handle my own problems.

If he was my boyfriend maybe I wouldn't be this angry. Because right now we weren't that close to helping each other.

This makes me even more convinced that there is something bigger that Grayson is hiding from me. And I think I need to start finding out on my own.
