Chapter 27 Big Brother
Owen's POV
I smiled at Dylan who looked happy opening my gift.
"Do you like it?" I asked curiously.
"I’m obsessed with it. Thank you Owen. You're like my big brother," he replied with a big smile.
"No worries boy! Get well soon. I might take you fishing."
"You promised? But Quinn won't let me go. You know she’s very strict."
I gently rubbed the beanie he was wearing. "Take it easy. As long as I'm around, I'll find a million reasons for your sister to let you."
Yeah, that's me to Dylan, an older brother who he said to be very kind.
I was very happy to be the only and first boyfriend Quinn had brought here. So now Dylan was this close to me.
And with this condition, it means I'm already one step ahead of Grayson.
Because I'm sure that cold Grayson will never be able to win Dylan's heart like me.
Grayson would probably give up because Dylan is very hard to conquer especially since he's very picky about who he likes or doesn't like to be close to Quinn.
I was the one lucky man who managed to gain his trust. Even though he knew Quinn and I had broken up, he didn't mind. Because I don't think Quinn was honest about the real reason for our breakup.
Quinn must not have wanted to see Dylan's condition worsen. So she probably made up another reason.
"Oh yeah, you said you met Quinn. Is she okay?"
"She’s doing well. She could even scold me because I accidentally messed up an item she was selling at the store," I replied as relaxed as possible.
"You're not lying, are you?" Dylan looked agitated.
"Of course. Do you feel something's wrong with your sister?"
Dylan nodded. "A few days ago when she came here, I saw that her eyes were puffy and her body became skinnier. I'm worried that she’s not resting and eating well. Whenever I asked her, she always said not to worry. But I'm really worried."
It's no wonder that Quinn is skinnier and less rested. I've smelled something between her and Grayson. I just can’t prove it.
I'm sure Quinn and Grayson's relationship isn't just simple as coworkers. Especially earlier when Quinn warned me not to discuss anything about her and Grayson. Obviously that means something is being covered up.
Not to mention yesterday when Grayson called Quinn while talking to me. It was obvious from his gaze that Grayson saw me as their rival.
Quinn is probably working 'extra' than she should so she can still afford Dylan's treatment with only one part-time job and one full-time job.
The money Grayson gave her must be pouring more freely.
"I'll ask her to eat more often and rest more regularly," I said in the end.
True to my promise to Quinn, I wouldn't reveal her job to Dylan.
It was better if Dylan found out from Quinn directly than hearing it from someone else. Because the level of disappointment would be different.
"Thanks. Please take care of my sister too. Even though you've broken up with her, please keep an eye on her for me too."
"Don't worry little brother. You just have to focus on your treatment."
Dylan nodded and then tried the gift I gave him earlier.
"By the way, if I want to date your sister again, do you agree?"
Dylan immediately stopped his activity. "So you guys are getting back together?"
"I'm planning to get more serious this time. I want to ask her to marry me."
"Then the answer is I totally agree! I'll be your first supporter."
I smiled widely.
1-0.
1 for me and 0 for Grayson.
Now I just needed to convince Quinn that I deserved a second chance.
I would gain Quinn's trust that I'd broken.
I'll get Quinn back. I was so sure.
And then when I did get Quinn, I was going to show her off to Grayson.
"Dylan." I tried to broach another topic. "You told me that you like ice hockey, right?"
"Yeah, you still remember?"
"Of course I do. So, which team do you like?"
"Frost Maple," he replied briefly, without hesitation.
"Your favorite player?"
Dylan shrugged. "I don't think I have one yet but I've heard lately that Grayson is a big hit with a lot of fans."
This was my chance to show off in front of Grayson. "Did you know I work for Frost Maple now? I can get an autograph and even introduce you to Grayson."
The game stick Dylan was holding, fell down. "Without a doubt? Are you sure? Wow, this would be my greatest achievement, meeting a big star."
"I can make it happen for you."
Quinn might be able to stop me from discussing her and Grayson in front of Dylan. But she wouldn't be able to prevent what Grayson would say to Dylan.
By letting Grayson meet Dylan, it would reveal everything. Because I'm sure, Grayson also wants to be recognized for his presence in Quinn's life by Dylan. So there's no way Grayson is going to keep quiet, especially when he finds out I'm his rival to winning Quinn's brother’s heart.
I can't wait. This is definitely going to be an interesting encounter. Between Dylan and Grayson. Two guys who are both stubborn and unapproachable.
I'll be watching them while drinking my coffee when it happens.
