Chapter 162 It Hurts A Lot

Chapter 162 It Hurts A Lot
Quinn's POV

"I'm his biological sister. What happened to him? Please tell me." I rushed forward to approach the nurse.

"From the patient's medical records, it is known that the patient missed his routine therapy this month, which should have taken place a few days ago. Because of that, the progress of the patient's treatment and condition could not be detected earlier—"

"Just tell me what happened to Dylan, my brother." I held her hand hopefully. "It was an accident, not his illness, right?"

The nurse sighed softly. "Due to the sudden discontinuation of treatment, coupled with the accident that befell the patient, his condition deteriorated rapidly and it progressed faster than we expected. So a donor is needed to save the patient. The doctor will explain it to you in more detail in his office. Let me take you there."

I pulled her hand. "I know you. You're the nurse who was part of Dylan's treatment. Right? So can you help him again this time?"

The nurse patted my hand and gave me a brief hug. "That's right. I was part of the team that cared for your brother. We will work hard."

That wasn't the answer I wanted. On the one hand, I couldn't force her to give me certainty, because my efforts to cure Dylan hadn't even materialised yet.

Grayson gently put his arm around my shoulder. He rubbed my arm. "I'll go with you to see the doctor. We'll listen to and follow all his advice. We'll do everything we can for Dylan. Okay?"

I nodded slowly.

I'd come this far. I wasn't going to give up just because Dylan's condition had worsened.

Now I wasn't walking alone. Grayson was always with me. So everything would be fine, right?

"It spread quickly because the treatment was stopped suddenly. At this point, I'm worried that if it's not treated immediately with the surgery I explained earlier, Dylan's condition will worsen. So, from the family, who can be the donor?"

"I will be the donor," I replied quickly.

"If you volunteer, then we will conduct an examination first," explained the doctor.

I furrowed my brow. "Wouldn't a sibling be a better match?"

"There's also a greater chance of incompatibility. So if your results are not compatible, we will need another family member before looking for a donor outside the family."

"Babe, you just donated your kidney to Dad. Isn't it very dangerous for you to do this?"

I stared sharply at Grayson. "Why are you forbidding me from sacrificing myself for my own brother?"

Grayson grabbed my hand. "Quinny, I'm not forbidding you. I'm just very worried about you. I'm worried about your health and your body."

I pulled my hand away from him. "I'll be fine." Then I looked at the doctor again. "Let's do the test right now, doctor. I'm sure I can be the donor."

"All right. But if the results are not what you hope for, please don't blame yourself. Because that's perfectly normal."

I clenched my fist under the table. "Instead of talking about possibilities that may not happen, it's better to get the test done right away."

"All right. The nurse will help you get ready and take you to the testing room. Please follow her instructions. I will explain the results to you later." The doctor stood up and asked us to leave.

I felt like my anger was at its peak.

I was angry at Grayson because his words seemed to be telling me that I didn't need to fight so hard for Dylan.

I was also angry at myself if the test results were not what I wanted. Because that would mean I would’ve to see my parents, begging them to save the child they had abandoned several years ago.

"If that's your decision, I'll support you, babe," Grayson said finally. He smiled slightly as he opened the door.

I didn't respond. I went straight to the nurse who was waiting for me.

"I'm ready to take the test," I said firmly.

"Okay. Please come with me," she replied.

"Quinny!"

I stopped in my path at Grayson's call. Without turning around, I saw him through the small, long glass window in the wall.

"Please don't blame yourself for whatever the results are. We'll keep trying until we find a match for Dylan."

I could only chuckle bitterly. Even the man I loved and who always believed in me wasn't sure this would work. How sad.

It turned out that the advice from the doctor and Grayson wasn't just advice because it came true.

Yes, after the test, the results were not compatible.

I couldn't be a donor for Dylan.

I. Couldn't. Be. A. Donor. For. My. Brother.…

Once again, all I could give him was money, which he couldn't even enjoy directly.

And now his life depended on our parents, who were even willing to hide from us because of their fears.

It's really sad. A sad life.

I sat down in the waiting room and bowed my head deeply.

It turned out to be true, I was blaming myself.

I felt like I wasn't a good sister. I felt like nothing I did for Dylan ever really worked.

It felt suffocating. When Dylan only had me to rely on, but I couldn't even help him.

The hope given by the Grayson family now felt impossible.

And foolishly, I believed Grayson’s family when they said I could cure Dylan with my abilities. Even modern technology cannot, but I believed them because of their promising offers.

I don't know. Maybe Grayson was right when we first met. That I was too naive.

"Quinny. Oh, sorry I'm late. I was contacting all my relatives who might be able to provide a suitable donor for Dylan." Grayson sat down next to me.

But when he tried to hug me, I pulled away. "You're right. The results aren't a match."

I looked up at Grayson, who was silent. "Please don't say anything. Let me think."

"You don't have to think about this alone, Quinny. Let's think about it together," he said softly.

"I can think about this myself. I know better what I have to do, Grayson," I said firmly.

Grayson's jaw tightened. "I'm not just here as your boyfriend. Can't you also see me as someone who cares about you and your brother? At least let me help you."

I wiped the corner of my eye. "You can help me by leaving me alone. Give me some space. Please go."

I thought this time Grayson would try to persuade me again or stubbornly insist on staying.

But this time he stood up, looking at me with a disappointed expression. And then he really left, just as I had asked.

Stupid. I did something stupid.
