Chapter 147 Other Clues

Chapter 147 Other Clues
Quinn's POV
I locked myself in our room when I arrived at Grayson's penthouse. Not only was my body tired, but my mind was exhausted today.
However, I still had something to take care of. So I couldn't really rest.
I took my bag and dumped its contents on the bed, then lay down on it.
I dialled Owen's number. I wanted to clarify exactly what he meant earlier that afternoon.
Luckily, Grayson hadn't arrived yet. He sent a message saying he had to finish some important things. And I was very grateful for that. Because it gave me time to call Owen.
While waiting for the call, I turned on the television and chose a good film to watch afterwards.
Just as I had decided which film to watch, Owen answered my call.
"Owen, it's me, Quinn."
"Quinn Blair Roux?"
I rolled my eyes. "Of course. Who else would it be?"
"Sorry, I just couldn't believe you would call me. I thought you had forgotten my number—"
"Let's get straight to the point," I interrupted. "What did you really want to say this afternoon?"
"I think you don't trust me, Quinn."
"For other things, yes. Because you've destroyed my trust. But for this afternoon, I feel like you really wanted to say something important but didn't want Grayson to know. So what was it?"
"Promise not to get angry or accuse me of anything, okay?"
"What if it does? If what you tell me makes me angry, I can't help myself."
Owen sighed. "I want to clear up the misunderstanding about my visit to Grayson's penthouse. This is important, because I didn't go there to stalk or anything bad like that. I went there because I wanted to tell you about your mother's whereabouts."
I sat down immediately. My heart started beating fast, erratically. "My mother? You know where she is? Wait, but how do you know about my mother? I didn't even tell you about her."
"That's true. You didn't tell me. But I saw her photo when I visited your flat. And from that, I knew that it was your mother."
"Where is she? Tell me, Owen. Where did you see my mother?"
"I saw her in this city on the same day I came to the Grayson penthouse to see you."
"Then why didn't you tell me then, Owen! That might have been my last chance to see her. Now she might’ve gone somewhere else."
I bowed my head deeply. I was happy to know that my mother was still alive. But I was also sad because I had missed the opportunity to see her.
Maybe she was looking for me at that time. Or maybe she wanted to see me. But because I wasn't in the same city as her, visiting Grayson's parents, I couldn't see her.
Oh my gosh, this guilt is killing me.
"I'm sure she's around here somewhere. She's just hiding really well."
I ran my fingers through my hair. "If you had told me the truth, I wouldn't have asked Dylan to kick you out of there. Oh my gosh, Owen. You know, I've been looking for her all this time and you were the lucky one who found her, but you were too late in telling me. It's useless, Owen, useless!"
"I'm sorry, Quinn. I'm really sorry I was late. But it was only today that I had the chance to see you again."
I tried to calm myself down. The more I blamed Owen, the more pointless it became. Because the situation had changed. Mum was probably hiding again.
"But I have another clue. I saw a mark on her hand. It's a mark from a pack member I've never seen before."
I furrowed my brow. "Are you sure? Not like Hanz's?"
"Hanz? Why are you jumping to Hanz? What did he say to you? Oh, don't tell me that's why he approached you."
I exhaled roughly. "Hanz said Mum was in the same pack as him. He also promised to introduce me to her."
"And what did he ask of you?"
"He didn't ask for anything."
"You're lying, Quinn. Hanz is clearly a cunning man. He wouldn't give this information away for free."
I bit my lip hard to vent my frustration. "You don't need to know about that. The important thing is, are you sure it's not the same mark as Hanz's?"
Owen sighed. "Anyway, whatever he asks for, if you think it's crossing the line, don't pay any attention to it."
"Answer me, Owen!"
"Yes, the mark is different."
Oh shit!
"He's probably trying to lie to you, Quinn. He won't keep his promise, I'm sure. So don't get your hopes up about what he said."
"But why? I mean, how could he even know about my mother if he's never seen her or knows anything about her?"
“Maybe he hired someone to investigate your life, Quinn. It could be because he wants revenge on Grayson for humiliating him at the rink that time.”
No. I don’t think that’s the reason.
I mean, if it’s just because he’s hurt from losing the game, it doesn’t seem worth the risk Hanz took to investigate my life. Owen’s reason seems too flimsy to be true.
"Quinn?"
"Where exactly did you see my mother?"
"At the underground station. At station 11. On the exit stairs."
Okay, I'll prove Owen's words are true. I'll go there.
"Don't go there alone, especially at night. Do you hear me, Quinn? It's dangerous there, there are lots of criminals. I went there because I was visiting the murder scene of a client of my family's company. Quinn?"
"If you're telling me this and expecting me to keep quiet, then you're wrong, Owen. I won't waste another chance to meet her."
"I'll go with you. We can go there tomorrow."
"No. Thank you for the information. But please don't interfere with what I'm gonna do. I've been waiting for this opportunity for years. So don't try to stop me. It's pointless."
"I'm worried you'll get hurt, Quinn. Don't go alone, please."
I grabbed the first jacket I saw in the wardrobe. "I'll be fine. I won't get hurt. And even if I do, if the price is seeing my mother, then I won't regret it."
