Chapter 125 Warm Hugs
Quinn's POV
"Shouldn't we tell Grayson or your brother first?" Mrs. Talon gripped my hand tightly. "This is a big decision. At least your little brother should know."
"I'll be fine," I replied.
I wasn't sure Dylan would agree if I told him. Meanwhile, I had to make this decision as soon as possible. The more people who knew, the more complicated it would be, and I was worried it would delay Mr. Talon's treatment.
Moreover, the examination had been done and it was a match. So I don't think there's any reason to delay any longer.
"Then Grayson should know. We still have time to tell him."
I rubbed Mrs. Talon's hand, calming her down. "For me, the most important thing for Grayson is that his father can recover. We can explain everything after the operation is over. The same goes for my brother, I'll tell him after everything is settled."
"Are you sure? Won't they both be angry?"
"They'll be fine. This decision is my right, Mrs. Talon."
"Your brother, he’s your only remaining family, right? At least we need him to be your guardian."
"Mrs. Talon—"
"Quinn, I think we should at least tell him. He might be very disappointed if you hide the truth from him. Or if you tell him after everything is over, I'm afraid he'll sue us. I really don't want to force you. Even though I know you love Grayson, you really don't have to force yourself. I'll find another way."
“Mrs. Talon, you said there were no donors available. And now here I am, in front of you, ready. I don’t feel pressured either. I’m doing this because I want to. And as for finding another way, I don’t think we have that much time. As the doctor said, Mr. Talon needs immediate surgery. Can you find a donor out there in just a few hours? That’s almost impossible.”
Mrs. Talon seemed to accept my long explanation because she hugged me again. "You’are an angel, Quinn. I don't know what kind of heart you have. Even after I said those hurtful things, you still care about us."
I smiled faintly. "I just don't want Grayson to be like me. As long as it's possible, I'll do it. Grayson has sacrificed a lot for me and my brother. So I want to repay his kindness."
"But it feels wrong for them not to know. It's like there's something stuck in my heart. I feel so guilty. Towards you, your brother, and Grayson."
I let go of her hug. I looked at Mrs. Talon intently. "This is all I can give to my partner who loves me so much. You don't need to feel guilty. Even if you were in Mr. Talon's position, I would do the same."
Mrs. Talon's tears fell again. She wiped them away roughly. "I'm so sorry. I haven't cried in years. So now I'm very emotional."
I nodded slowly, understanding. "You can show that you have emotions too. It's okay to cry sometimes. In a situation like this, it would be strange if you seemed fine." I rubbed her arm to calm her down.
"Thank you so much. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."
"It’s alright, Mrs. Talon," I replied sincerely.
She stroked my cheek. Her gaze softened, as if she were looking at Grayson. "Honestly, I still can't believe you volunteered. I thought you would laugh at us for getting in the way of your relationship with Grayson."
"It's impossible for me to laugh at someone who is sad, Mrs. Talon. Besides, I think the human heart is dynamic. It can soften over time."
Mrs. Talon smiled with teary eyes. "I am so grateful that Grayson found you at the right time. If he had found you even a little later, you wouldn't have been able to help us."
"It was all fate. MoonGoddess arranged it for us, Mrs. Talon."
A doctor and nurse approached us. The doctor hugged Mrs. Talon.
"Talon and his wife are good friends of mine. We've known each other since childhood. And I'm very grateful you saved him," the doctor said to me.
"Quinn, her name is Quinn," corrected Mrs. Talon.
I smiled and shook the doctor's hand. "Please help us, doctor."
"Of course, I'll do my best," he replied. "I admit you are very brave. Grayson is really lucky to have you."
"I'm also lucky to have her as my future daughter-in-law," replied Mrs. Talon.
That answer made me tense up. Future daughter-in-law? I never thought those words would come out of her mouth. I mean, she was the one who opposed my relationship with Grayson the most, but now she was the first to claim that I was her future daughter-in-law.
That made my heart full.
What I thought would never happen had come true. Now I had at least Mrs. Talon's blessing. And with that, I was sure that the burden Grayson carried on his shoulders would be a little lighter.
Improving the relationship between Grayson and his family was one of the things I wanted to achieve. After this, maybe I also needed to help Grayson understand and forgive his mother. That way, their relationship as mother and son can be restored.
"Can I take her there?" Mrs. Talon asked the doctor.
"Yes, of course. But only to the front of the operating room. After that, leave the rest to us," replied the doctor.
I stood up after accepting Mrs. Talon's hand. She slipped her arm through mine and leaned on my shoulder.
At that moment, I felt as if I was being hugged by my mom. It had been a long time since I had felt that way, and when I felt it again, it felt so warm, comforting.
And after this, I had to convince Grayson to apologize and forgive Mrs. Talon. He would be at a great loss if he didn't get this warm hug again.
"I once dreamed of having a daughter. But fate gave me two handsome sons. Now my dream has come true. I will have a daughter, the wife of my son.”
I smiled. So this is what it feels like to be accepted into my boyfriend’s family.
It feels safe, comfortable, and peaceful.
