Chapter 72 74
Chapter 72 74
LARA PARKER
Crap. Talk about bad lucks tonight. Yay me!
I was hoping i would have nothing to do with her. In fact, I was more than ready to pretend i had not spotted her.
But she clearly had as well.
I could tell by the way her steps did not falter or halt, with no hesitation whatsoever, and with no move to suggest she was unsure about walking over in my direction. She walked through the crowd on the dance floor as if she had a destination and that destination was me--whatever her earlier destination was now long forgotten having found a new target. Her eyes remained fixated on me, unmoving as she closed the distance between us, her strides filled with determination.
I kept my face blank and stayed in my seat, mentally chanting the same prayer over and over again.
Just walk past. Please.
The last thing i am in the mood for is a face off with Killian's potential ex, though not confirmed, but by the looks of it clearly. The experience with Dixie and how it ended is still fresh in my mind, i wanted nothing of that again.
But much to my greatest dismay, she did not.
She stopped right at our table, coming to a halt right beside me and looked down at me the way you look at something you are not entirely impressed by. The very same look she had that day i saw her with Killian at his parent's house. When she parted her lips to speak, her tone was confident. "Lara, right?" It sounded like a question, but something about her expression showed it was not.
I held back a sigh, putting on my bet indifferent expression. Looking awya from her, i hummed in confirmation though we're both sure it's not needed.
I heard her huff out a small laugh, and i could just picture the smug look on her face when she responded. "Savanna." She introduced, as if we both do not know i know her name already.
I nodded once, keeping my lips sealed.
Her eyes moved over me slowly, taking their time, before she let out a small sound that was not quite a laugh but more like a jab. "So, you are his new doll." She kissed her teeth. "I thought seeing you a second time would make you appear more impressive but..." She clicked her tongue, shaking her head. "...same as the first time. Unimpresive. Even less than the cheap models that throw themselves at him."
Mariah shifted beside me, and i already knew she was ready to charge. The alcohol in her system must be pushing her.
So, i forced myself to speak before she could jump in. "Clearly i have some value and mean something to have you standing here." I turned my head to find her gaze, forcing a tight slipped smile on my lips when i added. "Are you not here because you are bothered by my presence in his life?”
She scoffed. “I am merely looking out for you as a fellow woman.” She said it so well, I almost fell for it. "How long have you guys been together now?? A few weeks ?" She asked it the way someone asks a question they already know the answer to.
We both knew the answer.
a bit over a month which is way more than I expected it to last really myself.
She continued regardless. "He does this sometimes . Keeps one girl around for a little while, then moves on. Do not feel too bad when it happens. It is just who he is. It is the excitement of a new thing that makes me act like this. But such excitements do not last long, darling. A man will always find his way back to the one he’s meant for, and it is not you."
”you speak as though such ties are fated.” I laughed at the thought, but she did not. When my laugh died down, I added. “Let us assume that happens. We both know you are not his. A man if truly had such ties, would no go after others knowingly. Then again, it is men we speak of here. The things they do are beyond comprehension sometimes.”
”he is just using you.”
”so be it then.” I shrugged. “He is not the only one that can play around. So do I. And that is the difference between us. I know my limits and bottom line. You on the other hand?” I gave her a once over, tutting as I shook my head. “I guess you still need to work on that.”
i saw the anger flash in her eyes almost immediately. "I am just being honest with you." Her voice took on something that was pretending to be concern. She truly can play the role well, I was almost deceived. "Being Killian Wilde's little plaything is fun while it lasts. But that is all it ever is. A good time. Nothing more."
The word hung over me though I tried to pretend otherwise.
Plaything. That is all I am to him. His plaything.
