Chapter 70 72
Chapter 70 72
LARA PARKER
The music in the club was blaring, and bodies filed the dance floor, rubbed against each other according to the beat of the song. Neon lights flashed from all angles, the lights flicking in shades of blue, pink and white.
In the corner, Mariah and I occupied the table we had settled in, and I watched as she downed her second shot of tequila
“Damn girl.” I called out, eying her warily. “Wanna go easy on the drink a bit?”
“No.” She shook her head firmly. “No mercy for the alcohol. I need as much as I can take to get my mind off what is happening.”
“The year has only started.” I deadpanned, leaning back in my chair. “What could have possibly happened since it started to have you needing to get batshit drunk? Let me hear it and see if it is worth letting you black out or saving your ass?”
She snorted out a laugh that was not entirely humorous. “You are one to speak.” She mused, leaning back as well, raising a hand up to call over one of the workers to no doubt place another order. She flagged one down, and as he made his way over, she turned to look at me, her smile knowing. “You of course have everything going smoothly for you huh? Spending the holidays at your hot hockey captain home and moving in with him. Damn girl, you are living the dream!”
“Oh my God, shush!” I placed a finger on my lips, barely stiffling back my laugh. “Why don’t you just go around telling the entire bar who I am with?”
“You mean tell them you are fucking the most sought Center in the NHL—“
“Mariah! My goodness! Filter?”
She laughed out loud, throwing her head back. The worker arrived, and she shifted her focus to him. “Three more shots of tequila,” she instructed, glancing at me. “Are you sure you do not want anything? Does the Tequila not sound enticing enough? This conversation would be so much better with a drink, just saying.”
I shook my head, my lips curling into a small smile. “I am cutting back on the alcohol.” I tried to convince myself that it was not because Killian told me not to. It is not like me to listen to what a man wants and do as he asks. Instead, I tried to justify it that I have low alcohol tolerance with tendency of doing stupid things when batshit drunk.
Better to be safe than sorry.
She did not see to buy my words, but she did not press it either. Instead, she dismissed the worker to go fetch her order, and then turned around to face me, that annoyingly smug knowing look taking over her features. “Well, spill.”
I blinked. “Spill what?”
“How good is Killian Wilde in bed?” Her asking that outright had my eyes growing wide, instantly sitting up. “Judging by your reaction, he is good then?”
“Mariah, please…” my cheeks were heating.
She shrugged. “What? Do not act all innocent with me.” Pausing, her brows drew in before she added. “Then again, with his history with women, he has to be good.”
Her words had my shoulders slumping slightly, my mood dampening without warning. “History with women?” I knew Killian dows not entirely have a clean slate with women, and I keep telling myself that I do not care because we are only in this thing temporarily.
Yet hearing her mention it like that tugged my heartstrings in the wrong way.
She pressed her lips together, her amusement bristling away. “Well, yeah…I mean, I should not even bring this up since you two are together now. He clearly has changed and does not see you as one of those women he dates and dumps.” She shook her hand, as if to wave the topic away. “Just forget I ever said something about it. It was stupid of me. Maybe the drinks is already getting to me.” She blinked, her words slurring towards the end.
“Well, now I cannot.” I mumbled, my brows pinching in.
