Chapter 68 70
Chapter 68 70
LARA PARKER.
I feel as though I had purged everything in my stomach really and there’s nothing left in it. I turned on the faucet after leaning over the basin for a few seconds later, waiting to see if any more would come out but there was none.
Gathering some water in my hand and bringing it to my mouth, I gurgled before spitting out, repeating a process a couple of times to get rid of the after taste.
I let a loud heave as I turned on the faucet, then turned around to lean against the nearest wall, trying to steady my breath. One hand reached out to pat my chest, feeling an uncomfortable knot there growing. Luckily there is no one else in the rest room so I did not have to go through weird looks and all.
It took a moment to calm myself, and when I did, that was when I noticed the mess I had made on the floor with the spilled over coffee and my journal and pen there. “Shit.” I mumbled, staring at the mess a few seconds longer.
When I could finally muster some strength, I pushed myself back on my feet and made a move to clean it, disposing of the coffee cup and using a mop usually tucked away in the corner of the restroom to clean the coffee on the floor. Picking up my journal and pen, I cleaned it with a wiper, then washed my hands before dragging my heavy feet out of the restroom to return to my station.
My steps were cut midway when my gaze fell on a figure waiting outside the restroom, leaning against the wall with knitted in brows. Upon hearing movements however, he turned around, our eyes meeting.
“Lara…” He released a relieved breath, pushing him off to wall to stand in front of me. He then gave me a onceover, his frown returning when his eyes found mine again. “…are you okay? How are you feeling now? Do you need to go to the hospital?” He rushed to ask, his eyes frantically giving me another onceover.
I could only stare at him wide eyed at how he was acting, and when I realized he was staring me waiting for a response, I got over my shock, shaking my head. “No, it is nothing. I am alright. I just…” I waved my hand. “…I think I ate something bad or caught a stomach bug or something.” I blinked, my lips curling into a small smile. “I am good now.”
He did not seem convinced, and he parted his lips to say something in relation to it probably.
But before he could, a voice suddenly came from behind, gaining our attention.
“Parker?”
We turned around together, our gazes falling on a coworker of ours.
“Yes?”
“A minute please. I need help with something.”
“Sure. I am coming.” I shifted my gaze back to Evans, flashing him an apologetic look. “I have to get going now. But thank you for looking out.” Flashing him a curt nod, I side stepped him and made my way to my awaiting coworker, using one of my hands to pat my chest as I still am feeling nauseous though not as much.
The rest of the day at work went by without another trouble, the nauseousness from earlier dissipating as though it was not there in the first place. After work, I headed back to Killian’s house where I have been staying since he was not allowing me to return home, not that I am complaining. Living with him has been nothing short of blissful, and we have been back from the holidays for about two weeks now.
“Miss Parker.” I was greeted by the older woman that is in charge of taking care of the penthouse, a woman I had come to realize had been working for him for years. “You are home.” She acknowledged with a warm smile. “Good evening. Welcome back.”
She was standing in the living room, as if waiting for my return and deep down, I know she is.
I flashed her a nod, shrugging off my coat as I stepped out of the elevator, making my way further into the penthouse. “Evening. Madam Jones.” I flashed her a smile. “You are still around?” I had given up on trying to get her to call me by my first name, she simply does not budge and I have long realized there was not point trying to force her so I have up.
Her smile was warm as ever when she responded. “Mr. Wilde made it strictly clear to make sure I feed you before leaving.” She chuckled when I rolled my eyes at her words, muttering something along the lines of how overbearing he can be because he is. “What would you like to have?”
“Anything really. Just something light. I cannot stomach heavy food recently.”
She gave me a nod. “Understood.” Her brows drew in. “Do you need me to call the doctor for you?”
“No, please.” I shook my head. “I am alright now. There is no need.”
Her lips curled into a small smile, though her concern still remained. “Alright then. I will go cook now.”
“Thank you.” I whispered, turning and making my way towards the bedroom with the intention of taking a long bath to soothe my aching muscles.
As I turned on the water in the bath waiting for it to fill, I shrugged out of my clothes, wrapping a towel around me instead. Just as I was about to head to the bathroom, my phone that was on the bed suddenly started ringing, and when my gaze fell on it, I realized it is an incoming video call from the man I had not gotten the chance to speak to the entire day.
My lips curled into a genuine smile, and I found myself settling down on the bed as I picked up the phone and tapped the answer button, his face filling the screen almost immediately.
His lips were curled into a wide grin. “Why, hello there, beautiful.” He leaned down, and upon realizing I am only in a towel, I saw him quickly sit up and move away. “Yup. No way am I risking someone seeing you in that…”
