Chapter 63 64
She cut me off before I could finish. “Nonsense. Please, it’s the holidays and your birthday as well. You are family now.” Her warm smile returned. “Besides, the first time we met, your top notch sense of humor did not go unnoticed. So, the moment I saw this bag, I just knew it would fit you. It is but a small gift, please.”
It was evident from her tone that she would not take no for an answer, but the bag is also ridiculously. I do not own one, but I have heard my co workers ranting about the limited edition designer bag series in particular, many wanting to save up and afford it.
Yet here is Alice handing it over like it is no big deal. Truly the one in charge of the family business.
“Thank you.” I resorted to saying instead, covering it up and keeping it aside. “I love it, truly.”
“I am glad.” She clasped her hands together, before giving room for the others.
Sarah and Jasper—Killian’s parents were up next. They handed over their gift, a small square box all wrapped up as well. I opened it, not really knowing what to expect, so I was a bit confused seeing a key inside. I blinked, trying to figure it out.
Luckily, Sarah explained, coming to my aid. “It is the key to a cabin we own not far from here.” She stated, her warm smile unwavering. “We figured you and Killian would want your own little getaway space outside the city. We know he has his own place, but the cabin is truly beautiful. You will love it.”
My lips parted, and my head was already coming up with all the excuses I could use to turn this down because it was all too much, especially since I had nothing to offer.
But I guess the older woman noticed the look on my face, because she was quick to add, “We will not take it back so no complaints. It is yours now. We would appreciate it more if you take it.”
I shifted my gaze to Jasper, whom I realized is a man of a few words, and he offered me a small nod in encouragement.
My smile returned. “Thank you then, truly. I do not know how I can repay you.”
“Please,” sarah waved it off. “We are family. There are no repayments between family.”
I could only smile, though deep down my heart squeezed at the statement. This family truly is so accepting.
The gifts kept coming, Connor and Hannah got me a custom hockey jersey with Killian and mine’s initials on it ‘K & L’. Aalia and Ryan got me a vintage fountain pen with my initials and while Caleb got me noise canceling headphones. Nick and Tessa picked out a gift together as well, a beautiful leather bound journal.
By the end of it, I had a collection of thoughtful gifts. Killian’s gift was last, as if he needed to give me anything aside from all that he had given me.
“You did not have to…” I told him as he pulled out a small box and hand it out.
He simply offered me a smile, and then gestured towards the box in his hand. “Just open it.” His voice was as soft as his expression.
I took it regardless, and carefully unwrapped it. Opening the box, I was pleased to see a dainty necklace inside with a beautiful moon crest in the middle. There were some stones on it, I could tell the small diamonds, but there was also a royal blue sapphire as well.
“It is beautiful.” I cooed, lightly tracing the moon on the necklace. “I love it.” I said earnestly. Pulling it out of the box, I handed it to him. “Put it on for me.”
He nodded with a satisfied grin, collecting it from me. Gathering my hair on one side, I lifted it as he placed the necklace on me, his warm fingers leaving goosebumps where he touched my skin. When he clasped it in place, I allowed my hair to drop, my fingers seeking the moon crest instinctively.
I turned my head to face him, leaning down to press my lips on his for a quick kiss. “Thank you.” I had almost forgotten the others were in the room really.
But I am certain he was well aware when he pulled me down for a deeper, though short kiss regardless. He smiled against my lips. “Happy birthday, and Merry Christmas, darling.”
“Merry Christmas, Killian.”
And as the day ended off with us watching fireworks that the guys set up, i remained in Killian's arms as we all watched it together under the falling snow flakes, for the first time in my life, I did not hate Christmas.
If anything, this might just be my best Christmas yet.
Maybe Christmas is not so bad.
But what i forgot was, good times only last for so long.
