Chapter 37 Chapter 37

Chapter 37 Chapter 37
Leonidas’s POV

The moment the first wolf lunged—

Everything went to hell.

I didn’t think, didn’t even hesitate I just moved straight.

My body shifted in mid–step, bones cracking, muscles expanding as my wolf tore free with a force I didn’t bother holding back. The world sharpened instantly—every scent, every movement, every heartbeat around me becoming painfully clear.

And the only thing that mattered–

Was her.

The wolf aiming for Sable never made it close, as I hit him mid–air.

Our bodies slammed into the ground hard, claws ripping, jaws snapping as I tore him off course and into the dirt. He snarled, fighting back immediately, but he wasn’t my focus.

None of them were.

Not really.

Because behind me–

There were too many.

I ripped my claws across his side, throwing him back into the chaos before turning instantly.

The clearing had erupted.

Wolves were everywhere.

Clashing together.

Growling.

Blood already staining the ground.

Kael was in his wolf form now, fast and brutal, moving through the attackers like a storm, his golden fur flashing between bodies as he struck without hesitation.

Caius was something else entirely.

He hadn’t shifted, because he didn’t need to.

A blade flashed in his hand as he moved with deadly precision, taking down wolves with calculated strikes that were far too controlled to be instinct.

Hunter.

The word burned in my mind.

But I didn’t have time to think about that.

Because Sable–

She was still standing in the center of it all.

Frozen.

The air around her crackling with power that hadn’t decided what it wanted to be yet.

"Move!" I snarled at her.

Her head snapped toward me, eyes wide.

"I–"

"Now!"

Another wolf lunged for her from the side.

I couldn't reach him in time because I was a little bit far from her.

But something else did.

The air exploded as a wave of silver energy slammed outward from her body, hitting the wolf mid–air and sending him crashing into the ground several feet away with a sickening thud.

Silence didn’t follow, but hesitation did as very wolf near her faltered.

Just for a second.

Because we all felt it.

The power.

The authority.

Something that was far older than instinct.

My wolf surged forward inside me.

Not in submission–

But in recognition that she wasn’t just the Queen.

She was something more.

Something dangerous, unstable.

And right now, she stood there—

Unprotected.

"Sable!" I called again, forcing my way toward her through the chaos.

Two wolves blocked my path but I didn’t allow them slow me down.

I hit the first one head–on, my weight crushing into him as I tore through his defense, my claws digging deep before throwing him aside.

The second came from the left and he was a little too slow.

I turned, jaws snapping around his shoulder before slamming him into the ground hard enough to knock the fight out of him.

Then, i was there.

Right in front of her.

Her breathing was uneven, her body trembling slightly as the energy around her flickered dangerously.

"You need to get out of here," I said.

"I can’t," she whispered.

The panic in her voice cut deeper than anything else in this fight.

"They won’t stop," she added.

"I know."

Another wolf rushed us but

I turned sharply, intercepting him before he could get close. But still more were coming.

Too many.

"They’re not just here to fight," I growled. "They’re here to take you."

Her eyes widened.

"I’m not going with them."

"I know."

"Then what do we do?"

Before I could answer—

A voice cut through the chaos.

"ENOUGH!"

Everything stopped.

Not completely.

But enough.

The force behind the command wasn’t mine.

And it wasn’t hers either.

The wolves froze mid–motion.

Some stepping back.

Others lowering their heads instinctively.

I turned around to look.

The Alpha who had stepped forward earlier, now stood at the edge of the clearing, untouched by the chaos around him.

His presence had changed.

He wasn’t just observing anymore instead he was controlling it.

"This isn’t how this happens," he said calmly.

Kael shifted back into human form nearby, breathing hard but grinning slightly.

"Oh, now he wants rules."

Caius didn’t look amused.

"This was your doing," he said coldly.

The Alpha didn’t deny it.

"No," he replied. "This was inevitable."

My wolf snarled.

"Call them off," I said.

The Alpha’s gaze shifted to me.

"And why would I do that?"

"Because you’re losing control."

A flicker of something passed through his eyes.

Amusement.

"You think this is out of control?", he asked.

I didn’t answer.

Because the truth was–

It wasn’t.

Not yet.

And that was worse.

He stepped forward slowly.

The wolves around him parted instantly, giving him space, respect and power.

"This was never about taking her by force," he continued. "That would be..inefficient."

Sable stepped slightly closer behind me.

"What does that mean?" she asked.

The Alpha looked at her.

Really looked at her.

"You’ll come willingly," he said.

"No, I won’t."

He didn’t argue.

Didn’t push.

"You will," he repeated calmly.

Something about the way he said it—

Made my instincts flare.

Not because of the threat.

But because of the certainty.

Caius moved slightly closer as well.

"She’s not leaving with you."

The Alpha sighed softly.

"You’re still trying to fight something bigger than you."

"And you’re underestimating us," Kael added.

The Alpha’s gaze flicked between us.

Calculating slowly.

Me.

Caius.

Kael.

Then–

Back to Sable.

"No," he said quietly. "I’m not."

The air shifted again.

Subtle but dangerous.

My wolf tensed instantly.

"Something’s wrong," I muttered.

Caius nodded slightly.

"I feel it too."

The Alpha smiled.

"There it is."

Before I could react–

The ground beneath us trembled slightly not like before and definitely not from the temple.

From something deeper.

Something spreading.

Sable gasped behind me.

"I feel it...."

Her voice shook.

And for the first time ever–

Fear hit me.

Real fear.

Because whatever she was feeling, it wasn’t coming from the wolves instead it was coming from something else.

Something bigger.

The Alpha stepped back slightly with a satisfied look.

"You’re awakening faster than I expected," he said.

Sable’s breath hitched.

"What did you do?"

"I didn’t do anything."

The ground trembled again.

Stronger this time.

The trees around the clearing shook violently.

Birds scattered into the sky.

The wolves backed up instinctively now.

Not attacking.

Not advancing.

Just… reacting.

"What is that?" Kael asked.

No one answered.

But Sable did.

Without meaning to.

"It’s calling me...."

My heart stopped.

"What?"

Her eyes were distant now.

Unfocused.

Like she was listening to something none of us could hear.

"I can hear it," she whispered.

Caius grabbed her arm instantly.

"Sable, stay with me."

But her gaze didn’t shift.

"It’s not far...."

"No," I said immediately.

Whatever it was, I didn’t like it.

Not at all.

The Alpha watched her carefully with an interesting and curious look.

And that pissed me off more than anything else.

"What is it?" I demanded.

He met my gaze.

And for the first time ever, there was no amusement in his expression.

Only something darker.

More serious.

"The next phase", he said.

The words hit like a warning.

Before I could react—

Sable stepped forward.

Not willingly, but more like something was pulling her.

Caius tightened his grip.

"Don’t".

"I can’t stop–"

Her voice broke as she speaks.

The ground split open with a deep crack tearing through the clearing just a few feet ahead of us.

And from beneath it—

A pulse of energy shot upward.

Dark.

Ancient.

And somehow familiar.

My wolf froze, because I had felt that before, in the temple.

Sable gasped as her body went rigid.

Then–

She screamed.

And everything went black.
