Chapter 29 Chapter 29

Chapter 29 Chapter 29
Sable’s POV

The next Alpha fell screaming while also trembling. Making the sound tear through the temple like a blade, sharp and raw, echoing off the ancient stone walls until it felt like it was happening right inside my head.

Blood hit the floor.

And something inside of me reacted.

My breath hitched violently as the silver energy coiled tighter in my chest, pulsing in response to the violence unfolding before me. It wasn’t fear–not entirely.

It was something deeper.

Something instinctive.

Like the power inside me recognized the fight. Recognized the need for it.

The fallen Alpha’s body hit the ground hard in his wolf form, flickering a little before going still. The glowing symbol beneath him shattered instantly, its light extinguishing like a dying star.

Three circles remained. Three Alphas left standing while the temple seemed to hold its breath, waiting for the winner to emerge.

Across from me, Leonidas’s wolf stood tall, his gray fur streaked with blood that was not entirely his own. His chest rose and fell heavily, but his silver eyes were locked on the remaining opponents with sharp, unwavering focus.

Kael stood opposite him. Dark and unyielding.

His golden eyes burned with something fierce–something almost eager.

Between them, the third Alpha circled slowly, limping slightly but still dangerous. Waiting. Calculating the next move.

The dragon moved.

The massive creature shifted its weight, its claws scraping against the stone floor with a sound that sent chills down my spine and everyone else. Its silver eyes followed every movement of the wolves—judging, measuring and watching. Always watching to see what will happen next.

My heart pounded unevenly. I could feel it now—everything. Every heartbeat in the room. Every breath, every flicker of tension between the Alphas.

It was overwhelming.

Too much for me.

My fingers curled together slightly as another wave of power surged through me.

"Stop...", I whispered, though I didn’t know who I was speaking to.

The wolves didn’t hear me. Or maybe they did—because for a split second, all three Alphas hesitated with just a fraction to look toward me. But it was enough.

The third Alpha lunged. He went straight for Kael. Fast, almost like he was desperate. Claws slashed toward Kael’s throat.

Kael twisted at the last second, his movements fluid, almost effortless. His jaws snapped forward, catching the other wolf’s shoulder mid–attack. The sound of tearing flesh echoed sharply as the Alpha howled.

Leonidas moved instantly. He didn’t hesitate neither did he didn’t wait, he just attacked straight.

His massive form slammed into the injured Alpha from the side, sending both wolves crashing across the temple floor in a violent tangle of fur and blood.

The crowd gasped in horror at the site.

The dragon’s tail lashed once again. Hard.

The ground trembled beneath us. This wasn’t just a fight anymore, this was an execution.

The injured Alpha tried to recover, tried to stand—But Leonidas didn’t give him the chance. His jaws clamped down. A sickening crack followed. Silence. The third Alpha went still. Another circle shattered. Only two remained.

My breath caught in my throat.

Leonidas and Kael.

The air shifted instantly. The tension snapped into something more sharper. Something final. The two Alphas turned slowly toward each other.

And for the first time—They weren’t looking at the trial. They were looking at each other.

The dragon lifted its head. Its massive wings shifted slightly as its silver gaze sharpened. The voice came again. Deep. Ancient. Unavoidable.

"The final trial".

The words echoed inside my mind like a command carved into stone.

My chest tightened painfully.

No.

This wasn’t right.

This wasn’t supposed to happen like this. The power inside me surged again.

Unstable. Violent.

"Stop...", I whispered again, louder this time.

But the world didn’t listen. Kael stepped forward first. Slow and deliberate, ready to fight.

His golden eyes never left Leonidas.

"Well", he said, his voice calmly despite the blood staining his skin. "Looks like it’s just you and me now".

Leonidas didn’t respond immediately. His wolf lowered slightly, his muscles coiling ready to strike. A low growl rumbled from his chest.

"You should walk away", he said.

Kael smiled. There was nothing friendly about it. "You know I won’t".

The tension between them crackled like lightning. My heart pounded harder.

Faster.

Something inside me screamed. This wasn’t just about the trial anymore.

This was personal.

Dangerously personal.

Outside, another howl echoed. Closer this time. Then another. And another. The sound had surrounded the temple now, rising like a storm just beyond the walls. The packs had arrived.

The Guardian stepped forward again, his voice tight. "They’re at the gates".

No one moved. No one cared. Because inside the temple—Everything had narrowed down to this moment.

Leonidas. Kael. And me.

The dragon’s eyes flickered toward me briefly. Then back to them. "Begin".

The word slammed into the air like a final verdict.

And then—

They moved.

The impact was explosive. Kael lunged first, his speed terrifying as he closed the distance between them in a blur. Leonidas met him head-on. Their bodies collided with a force that shook the entire temple. Claws tore. Jaws snapped. The sound of bone hitting bone echoed brutally.

I flinched. My chest tightened painfully as the connection inside me flared. I could feel them. Both of them. I could feel their rage, their determination and especially their need to win. It burned through me like fire.

"Stop…", I whispered again. But my voice was lost in the chaos.

Kael twisted, slamming Leonidas into a pillar hard enough to crack the stone. Dust rained down as Leonidas retaliated instantly, his claws raking across Kael’s side.

Blood splattered around yet neither of them slowed or hesitated. They fought like nothing else existed. Like the world beyond this temple didn’t matter.

Another crash shook the entrance. Louder this time. The doors–something was hitting the temple doors. Hard.

"They’re breaking through", someone shouted. The Guardian turned sharply. "They can’t enter during the trial—"

A deafening boom cut him off. The doors shook violently, cracks spread across the ancient wood. The barrier was weakening.

My breath hitched. This was spiraling out of control.

Inside me—the power snapped again. Harder this time. A surge of silver energy exploded outward from my body. The temple reacted instantly while the glowing symbols flared up wildly. The dragon’s head snapped toward me.

"Sable", Leonidas growled mid-fight.

For a split second—He was distracted and Kael took advantage. His claws slashed across Leonidas’s shoulder, deep enough to draw a sharp, pained snarl from him.

My chest tightened.

No. No, no, no—"Enough!"

The word tore out of me. Not a whisper. Not a plea. A command. The entire temple froze. Leonidas. Kael. Every wolf. Even the dragon stilled. Silence dropped like a blade.

My breathing was uneven. My heart racing wildly.

"I said… stop."

My voice shook. But the power behind it didn’t. For a moment—everything obeyed. But then—the temple doors exploded inward. Wood splintered. The barrier had shattered and the outside world came crashing in.

Dozens of wolves flooded into the temple. Alphas. Betas. Warriors. Their eyes locked onto me instantly. Hungry. Desperate. Possessive.

My stomach dropped. The war had arrived. The dragon moved. Fast. Faster than anything that large should be able to move. Its massive body slammed between me and the incoming wolves, its wings spreading wide as a wall of shadow and power. Its roar shook the entire mountain.

The voice echoed again. Furious this time.

"The trial is not finished."

But no one was listening anymore. Because the wolves weren’t here for the trial. They were here for me. And the moment they stepped inside—everything changed.

Leonidas moved first. He placed himself in front of me instantly, his body tense, ready to fight anything that came close.

Kael didn’t step back either. Instead, he moved closer to me. To the center where u was standing.

His golden eyes burned with something dark and determined.

The wolves began circling. Slowly. Carefully. Predators closing in. My breath hitched. This wasn’t a trial anymore. This was a battlefield and I was the center of it.

The power inside me surged again. Wild. Uncontrolled. Dangerous. The dragon’s voice echoed inside my mind once more.

"Choose."

My heart slammed against my ribs.

"What?"

"Choose your Alpha."

Panic flooded my chest. "I can’t—"

"You must."

The wolves moved closer. Closer. Leonidas’s growl deepened. Kael’s eyes never left mine. Everything was closing in. The temple. The wolves. The power. The war.

My chest tightened painfully as the silver light exploded outward again, brighter than ever before. I couldn’t hold it back anymore. I didn’t want to choose. I couldn’t choose. So instead— I let go. The power inside me surged violently. And this time—

I didn’t stop it.
