Chapter 108 The Battle Between Hope and Despair

Chapter 108 The Battle Between Hope and Despair

Chapter 108

Sable's POV

The battlefield fell unnaturally silent.

Thousands of soldiers stood frozen where they were.

No swords clashed.

No arrows flew.

Even the wind seemed to hold its breath.

At the center of the valley stood only three people.

Moros.

Leonidas.

And me.

Far above us, the crimson eye watched from beyond the broken heavens.

The Heart of Creation pulsed beneath the palace, each beat echoing across Elysium.

Moros smiled faintly.

"So this is where your story ends."

I tightened my grip on the Blade of Creation.

"No."

"This is where yours begins to end."

His smile widened.

"You've learned confidence."

"I've learned truth."

For the first time...

Something flickered across his face.

Not anger.

Recognition.

He lowered his sword slightly.

"Tell me."

"What truth?"

I took one slow step forward.

"The truth that you are tired."

The battlefield became impossibly quiet.

Moros stared at me.

His expression didn't change.

But his eyes...

His eyes betrayed him.

"You've fought for thousands of years."

"You've lost everyone."

"You've convinced yourself that perfection is the only way to stop pain."

I swallowed.

"But all you've really done..."

"...is make yourself lonely."

His fingers tightened around his sword.

"Enough."

Moros' POV

Lonely.

That word.

Why did it hurt?

Why did it sound so familiar?

For a heartbeat, memories slipped through the walls I had built around myself.

The First Kingdom.

Laughter echoing through bright halls.

The King calling me his brother.

Sera placing flowers on the palace balcony.

Orion clapping me on the shoulder after training.

No.

Those memories were lies.

Weakness.

They had chosen each other over me.

I had simply accepted the truth first.

I lifted my sword.

Darkness erupted from the ground around me.

"You know nothing."

Leonidas' POV

The earth split open.

Black pillars of shadow burst from the battlefield like the fangs of some ancient beast.

I pushed Sable backward just as one erupted beneath her feet.

Stone exploded, dust filled the air and Moros vanished fast.

Too fast.

I barely sensed him before instinct took over me.

I spun making our swords collided.

CLANG!

The force of the impact threw me backward across the broken ground.

I slid several meters before digging my blade into the earth to stop myself.

He was stronger.

Far stronger than before.

Moros looked at me with calm amusement.

"You've grown."

"I had to."

"You still aren't enough."

The King's POV

I wanted to intervene.

Every instinct screamed at me to protect them.

Orion placed a hand on my shoulder.

"No."

I looked at him.

"They have to fight this battle."

"What if they die?"

Orion's gaze never left the battlefield.

"Then we'll make sure they

don't die alone."

For the first time in centuries...

I trusted someone else's strength more than my own.

Sable's POV

Leonidas stood again.

Blood ran down one side of his face which he wiped away with the back of his hand and smiled.

"I've had worse."

I rolled my eyes despite everything.

"Liar."

"A little."

The moment of humor lasted only a heartbeat.

Moros struck again.

His blade split into dozens of shadows. Each one attacked from a different direction.

I raised the Blade of Creation as golden light erupted outward.

The First Flame answered making the shadows shattered against the light.

Then...

The Second Flame awakened.

Blue light intertwined with gold.

Suddenly...

I could see them.

Not the attacks.

The memories inside them.

Every strike Moros unleashed carried centuries of grief.

Every shadow held another regret.

Every wound he inflicted on others...

Was one he had never allowed himself to heal.

I gasped.

Leonidas noticed immediately.

"What is it?"

"I can see his soul."

Moros' POV

Impossible.

No one had ever looked beyond my darkness.

No one had ever seen...

Me.

She stared at me with pity.

I hated pity.

I roared and released all my power at once.

The sky turned black.

Lightning of crimson fire ripped across the heavens.

The crimson eye widened.

The Heart of Creation trembled violently.

The entire battlefield disappeared beneath a storm of darkness.

From within the storm, my voice echoed like thunder.

"If hope refuses to kneel..."

"...then despair will swallow the world!"

A colossal wave of shadow surged toward Sable and Leonidas, blotting out the light itself.

The soldiers watching from both sides could only stare in horror. The wave was so enormous it seemed capable of consuming all of Elysium.

Leonidas stepped in front of Sable.

"No matter what happens..."

He didn't take his eyes off the darkness.

"...I won't let it touch you."

Sable reached for his hand and their fingers intertwined.

The First Flame blazed.

The Second Flame answered.

And deep within the Heart of Creation...

A third heartbeat echoed.

THUMP.

The entire world froze.

Even Moros stopped moving.

Eden slowly looked toward the palace and his face immediately lost all color.

He whispered,

"The Third Flame..."

"...has awakened."

Eden's POV

The sound echoed only once.

THUMP.

Yet every soul in Elysium felt it.

The Heart of Creation had never beaten like that before.

Not when the First Flame awakened.

Not when the Second Flame returned.

This heartbeat...

Was different.

It wasn't loud.

It wasn't violent.

It was inevitable.

I slowly turned toward the Palace of Creation.

Deep within its highest tower, hidden behind seven ancient seals, something had awakened.

Not a weapon.

Not a creature.

A choice.

The Third Flame had never been a source of power.

It was the Flame of Judgment.

And Judgment never chose sides.

It revealed the truth.

I whispered under my breath,

"It's beginning..."

Sable's POV

The darkness rushing toward us suddenly slowed.

Not because Moros had stopped but because time itself seemed to hesitate.

The world lost its sound.

The battlefield faded.

Leonidas was still holding my hand, but he seemed impossibly far away.

Then...

I found myself standing in an endless white space.

There was no sky.

No earth.

Only light.

Footsteps echoed behind me.

I turned.

The Messenger.

He looked exactly as before, wrapped in golden radiance.

"You came."

He smiled.

"I never truly left."

I frowned.

"What's happening?"

"The Third Flame has awakened."

"I thought it belonged to someone else."

"It does."

"Then why am I here?"

The Messenger's expression became solemn.

"Because its bearer must make a decision."

My heart sank.

"Who is the bearer?"

Instead of answering, he stepped aside as a figure emerged from the light.

At first I couldn't recognize them.

Then...

My breath caught.

It was Eden.

Only...

Older.

Much older.

His playful smile was gone while his eyes held the sorrow of countless ages.

He looked at me gently.

"Hello, Sable."

Leonidas' POV

"Sable!"

She wasn't responding.

Her eyes had turned completely golden.

The wave of darkness was still suspended before us, frozen in place.

Everyone else seemed trapped in time.

Only I could move.

No...

Not move.

Walk.

Very slowly.

As though each step carried the weight of mountains.

I reached toward Sable.

Before I could touch her...

A silver wolf appeared beside me.

Larger than any wolf I'd ever seen. Its fur shimmered like moonlight, its eyes were bright gold and then it spoke without opening its mouth.

"Protect her body."

I stared.

"Who are you?"

"The first."

Then it vanished.

Moros' POV

No.

No!

The Third Flame should have answered me.

I had earned it.

I had sacrificed everything.

I had given up love.

Family.

Peace.

Mercy.

I had carried the burden no one else would bear.

Why...

Why wouldn't it choose me?

The darkness around me became unstable.

For the first time in centuries...

My power wavered.

Eden's POV

Or perhaps...

I should finally tell her the truth.

"I've lied to you."

Sable looked stunned.

"No..."

"You protected me."

"I did, but I also hid the truth."

"The little boy you met..."

"...was only one part of me."

He lifted his hand and the white space rippled.

Thousands of memories surrounded us.

I saw cities being built.

Kingdoms rising.

Stars being born.

Worlds fading into dust.

In every memory...

Eden was there.

Watching.

Never aging.

Never changing.

Sable whispered,

"How old are you?"

He smiled sadly.

"I don't remember."

Sable's POV

"You've been alive since the beginning?"

He nodded.

"I was the first soul the Creator ever made."

I couldn't breathe.

"The first?"

"The first friend."

"The first witness."

"The first guardian."

"The Creator called me Eden because I was meant to remind creation of its beginning."

Tears filled my eyes.

"You've been alone..."

"For all this time?"

He looked away.

"Yes."

"Didn't you ever want to leave?"

"Many times."

"Why didn't you?"

He looked back at me.

"Because someone had to wait for you."

The Battlefield.

Outside the frozen moment...

A tiny crack appeared in the suspended wave of darkness.

Then another.

Then another.

Golden light seeped through the cracks.

The Heart of Creation beat again.

THUMP.

Across Elysium, ancient statues began to glow.

The silver trees burst into bloom.

The rivers of light flowed faster than ever before.

Even the wounded felt their pain ease.

The city itself...

Was answering the Heart.

I looked at Eden.

"What happens now?"

He closed his eyes.

"The Third Flame will choose."

"And if it chooses wrong?"

"It never chooses wrong."

"It chooses truth."

The Messenger stepped forward once more.

"The question is not who deserves its power."

"The question is..."

"...who can survive its judgment."

The white space trembled violently.

A deep, ancient voice echoed through the endless light.

"Bring forth the Bearer."

Eden slowly looked at me.

Then, with a mixture of sadness and hope, he whispered,

"I think..."

"...you're about to meet the only person who has never forgiven themselves."

The light exploded around them.

And somewhere within the Palace of Creation...

A sealed stone door that had not opened since before the

First Age...

Slowly began to swing open.

The light faded slowly.

When my eyes adjusted, I was no longer standing in the endless white space.

I stood before an enormous stone door.

It towered so high that I couldn't see its top.

Its surface was carved with thousands of names.

Kings.

Queens.

Children.

Warriors.

Ordinary people.

Every name shimmered with silver light.

I stepped closer to it and the moment my fingers brushed the stone...

The names began moving.

One after another, they vanished.

Until only a single name remained.

LUCIAN.

The letters glowed brightly.

I turned toward Eden.

"Who is Lucian?"

His face grew solemn.

"The first Judge."

"The keeper of the Third Flame."

"The man who believed justice mattered more than mercy."

I frowned.

"What happened to him?"

Eden's voice became almost a whisper.

"He judged himself."

Inside the Sealed Chamber

The ancient door groaned open.

Dust filled the air.

For the first time in thousands of years...

Sunlight entered the chamber.

At its center stood a lone figure.

Not chained.

Not imprisoned.

Waiting.

He wore simple white robes beneath weathered silver armor. His long dark hair rested over his shoulders.

A blindfold of silver cloth covered his eyes.

Yet somehow...

He seemed to be looking directly at me.

His hands rested on the hilt of a sword planted in the stone before him.

Blue fire burned gently around its blade.

He spoke before anyone else could.

"I wondered how long it would take."

His voice was calm.

Peaceful.

Tired.

Very tired.

Lucian's POV

The waiting was over.

Seven thousand years.

Or perhaps longer.

Time stopped meaning anything after the Creator left.

I heard the footsteps.

Not one pair.

Three.

The Messenger.

Eden.

And...

Her.

The girl carrying both the First and Second Flames.

The one history had been waiting for.

I smiled faintly.

"So..."

"The Daughter of Dawn has finally arrived."

Sable's POV

"You know me?"

Lucian nodded.

"I knew of you long before you were born."

"Then tell me."

"Who am I?"

He remained silent for several moments.

Then he asked,

"Who do you believe you are?"

The question caught me off guard.

"I'm..."

"Sable."

"A Luna."

"A Queen."

"A mate."

"A daughter."

"A friend."

He nodded after every answer.

"And beneath all of those?"

I hesitated.

"I don't know."

A gentle smile appeared on his face.

"Good."

"You are not yet trapped by titles."

Moros' POV

Something was wrong.

Very wrong.

The Third Flame hadn't chosen me.

It hadn't chosen anyone.

It had awakened...

Only to open the Gate of Judgment.

My breathing became uneven.

No.

Lucian couldn't awaken.

Not him.

Not after everything.

I remembered the last time we'd spoken.

His final words still haunted me.

"If you ever forget compassion..."

"...I will judge you."

Leonidas' POV

The battlefield remained frozen.

Only tiny fragments of darkness continued drifting through the air.

I stood beside Sable's motionless body.

Every instinct screamed that something immense was happening beyond my understanding.

The silver wolf appeared again. This time, it sat quietly beside me.

"You worry."

"I always worry."

"Good."

I frowned.

"Good?"

"Only those who fear losing someone truly understand their value."

I looked at Sable.

"I can't lose her."

The wolf's golden eyes softened.

"Then remind her where home is."

The King's POV

The Heart of Creation was changing.

The cracks had almost disappeared. Its light had become brighter than I had ever seen.

Sera joined me.

"Do you feel it?"

I nodded.

"The city is waking."

The silver trees surrounding the palace had begun growing new branches. The rivers shimmered with golden light.

Flowers bloomed across battle–scarred fields.

Even abandoned buildings slowly repaired themselves.

The Heart wasn't merely healing.

It was restoring Elysium.

Hope had become stronger than destruction.

Sable's POV

Lucian reached up and untied the silver blindfold.

For a heartbeat...

Nothing happened.

Then he opened his eyes.

I gasped.

His eyes contained no pupils.

No color.

Only swirling galaxies.

Stars were born and died within them. Entire worlds existed inside his gaze.

I couldn't look away.

"You carry two Flames."

He said quietly.

"But the Third Flame isn't a gift."

"It's a burden."

"It doesn't burn enemies."

"It burns lies."

He stepped closer.

"And there is one lie..."

"...that has ruled this war from the beginning."

I held my breath.

"What lie?"

Lucian looked directly into my eyes. His voice echoed through the chamber.

"Moros believes the Creator abandoned him."

Silence.

Then Lucian continued.

"...The Creator never left him."

The words struck like lightning.

At that exact moment...

Far across the battlefield...

Moros suddenly fell to one knee. His sword slipped from his grasp.

His eyes widened in disbelief.

As if...

Some forgotten memory had just begun to return.
