Chapter 49 Jealousy

Chapter 49 Jealousy
Hidden Beauty

Beauty and Wealth means status, class, and survival to Rosevale's students. Just have any and what you have would be overlooked. Not having a trust fund can be overlooked if you got looks and not having looks doesn't matter if your parents had the wealth. Unexpectedly, this rule did not apply to Akira. Her enemies seemed to increase each passing day.

“What's wrong with everyone," Amy had asked on their way to PE class.
“I guess they badly wanted Akira to be ugly, so they can keep picking on her." Violet smiled, placing an arm on Akira's shoulder.

And truly, they could count with five fingers, the looks of admiration from the other students.

Seeing that their friend was unbothered, they continued moving to class in complete silence.

The Arithmetic teacher walked in the moment they settled down, making the once rowdy class quiet.

He scribbled a question on the board before turning to face the students once more.

Mr Lucas, the Arithmetic teacher, was a man in his mid thirties. He family was quite influential in the city, so the students at Rosevale accorded him some respect. But Lucas was not really a nice person, he was bitter, and loved stepping on whoever was beneath him.

He hated anyone who was better off than him in any way, but he couldn't show it as most students at Rosevale could end his career with just a phone call.

And today, he found a perfect target: Akira.

He initially paid no attention to her when she was hooded, but with her hoodie off,he felt a bit intimidated by her looks.

“You?" He called out, with his signature smirk he always has on when he finds a victim. “Come solve the problem on the board." He signalled Akira with his hands.

“Rosevale students were empty headed, safe for a few, and a girl that pretty had nothing upstairs." He thought, already rehearsing some humiliating words.

“Solve the arithmetic question," he handed her the marker and stepped aside.

Akira took the marker and studied the problem on the board for a minute but just when she was about to make a move Lucas cut her off with a nasty remark.

“Excuse me?" Akira muttered in disbelief, behind her, the rest of the students were stunned.

It was common knowledge that Mr Lucas was rude and condescending, but they never expected him to go too far.

“I see you're too daft to comprehend what I said earlier," he smirked, to him Akira was a scared helpless student, one he completely looked down on.

“I said you're just a dumb girl, who depends on older men, if you put the same effort you put in getting into older men beds in your studies, you might pass your college entrance exams, who knows." Lucas reiterated boldly, and without any fear or concern.

Akira said nothing, she only put down the marker and worked to Matthews office, a move that was shocking, and unexpected to Lucas. He stared around the quiet class, no one laughed at his joke, and slowly, for the first time in a long while, a feeling of dread rose deep within him.

Lucas packed his things and left not long after, unable to continue teaching.

And two hours later, he was fired and slammed with a law suit. And within four hours his family's business was cancelled from operating in the country.

This left a lot of students surprised, with some factions naming Akira's friends, Violet especially, as Akira's defender, but none could place a finger on who had Lucas family cancelled in the space of four hours. Since they couldn't name anyone, the rumour of Akira's involvement with other men became a widely whispered and believed topic, behind close doors.

Many believed the rumour, but only Olivia was bold enough to say it to Akira's face.

Olivia had seen Elliot's expression shift to something she recognized but refused to acknowledge, when he saw Akira's real face. And this fueled her hatred for the girl.

As her plans to ugly shame angry flopped, she resulted to slut shaming her, and it was working. She just needed to intensify her efforts a bit.

From the other end of the classroom, Kiana watched Olivia intently. She looked distracted and occupied with dealing with Akira. Maybe it was time for revenge. She'd be planning a comeback while faking amnesia, and maybe now was a perfect time to deal a devastating blow, but first, deleting that compromising video was important.

With Olivia's locker combination safely stored at the back of her mind, she smiled as she made way to the locker
room, oblivious to eyes watching her.
