Chapter 146

Chapter 146

Benjamin naturally wouldn't oppose my decision, and directly had Luca book an entire upscale Michelin restaurant by the Thames River.

The restaurant in the early morning hours was completely reserved for us, the atmosphere lively and relaxed.

The long dining table was filled with exquisite dishes.

I'd been hungry all day, and looking at the fresh, juicy tomahawk steak in front of me, I couldn't help swallowing.

Before I could pick up my knife and fork, a pair of well-defined hands reached over from beside me, naturally taking away the plate in front of me.

Benjamin turned slightly to the side, holding a knife in one hand and fork in the other, elegantly and skillfully cutting the steak into evenly-sized small pieces. His expression was focused, as if handling a piece of art worth hundreds of millions, completely ignoring his own untouched food in front of him.

After cutting it, he pushed the plate back in front of me and poured me a glass of warm water.

"Eat up, be careful it's hot," he said gently.

This smooth sequence of actions immediately caught the attention of the surrounding staff.

Several young makeup artists and assistants couldn't help covering their mouths and exclaiming softly, their eyes full of envy:

"Oh my god, Mr. Wilson is so thoughtful!"

"Mrs. Wilson is so lucky, the way Mr. Wilson looks at her is absolutely melting!"

Hearing the whispers around us, my cheeks warmed slightly, but my heart felt so sweet it was about to overflow.

Perhaps it was the few glasses of red wine, but the atmosphere became increasingly relaxed.

The curly-haired chief photographer from Eldoria boldly asked with curiosity, "Mr. Wilson, you and Mrs. Wilson have such a great relationship, who pursued whom first? It must have been an epic love story, right?"

As soon as this question came out, the entire table instantly fell silent, everyone perking up their ears and looking at us curiously.

My hand holding the fork paused, and I instinctively turned to look at Benjamin.

Benjamin put down his wine glass, his deep gaze falling directly on my face through the brilliant crystal chandelier light.

He showed no hesitation, the corners of his mouth lifting in a gentle curve.

"I fell for her first," his voice was low and particularly clear in the quiet restaurant. "With her, it was love at first sight, long premeditated. Being able to marry her is the greatest fortune of my life."

This straightforward and heartfelt confession was like a stone thrown into a calm lake, stirring up countless ripples in my heart.

My cheeks instantly burned red. I lowered my head shyly, not daring to even look at him, and could only randomly stuff a piece of beef into my mouth.

Around me came the sounds of teasing and good-natured laughter.

After finally calming my heartbeat, from the corner of my eye I noticed Benjamin's plate was still completely clean.

Since sitting down, he'd been busy serving me food and pouring water, without eating a single bite himself.

My heart ached. I proactively picked up a piece of cut steak, dipped it in black pepper sauce, and despite everyone's teasing looks, brought it directly to his lips.

"You eat some too, don't just take care of me," I mumbled softly.

Benjamin paused slightly, then a triumphant smile rippled in his eyes.

He didn't reach out to take it, but directly bit the piece of beef from my hand, his thin lips intentionally or unintentionally brushing against my fingertips.

This late-night meal ended amid laughter and joy.

When we returned to the hotel suite, it was already 2 AM.

Closing the door and shutting out the noise outside, the suite returned to quiet.

Benjamin took off his suit jacket and casually loosened his tie.

In the bright light of the entrance, I keenly noticed that after dropping his guard from being in public, his complexion still showed an abnormal pallor, and his brows were slightly furrowed, as if trying hard to endure some discomfort.

My heart sank, worry surging up again.

It seemed his cold from last night hadn't fully recovered, and today he'd accompanied me through the whole exhausting day—even an iron body couldn't withstand that.

"Go lie down on the bed first, don't shower," I said, pushing his shoulder toward the bedroom with concern. "I'll get you some hot water and cold medicine."

I returned to the bedroom carrying warm water and cold medicine.

Benjamin was leaning against the headboard. Though his eyes showed undisguised fatigue, he still obediently swallowed the medicine with my help.

He pulled me into the covers, his long arm wrapping around me, holding me tightly in his embrace. I leaned against his warm chest, my hand naturally resting on his waist.

Through the thin silk pajamas, I could clearly feel the somewhat sharp outline of his bones.

He'd lost weight.

The continuous serious injuries, high fevers, and forcibly pushing himself to handle the Wilson Group's international business had severely depleted his originally fit body.

A dense ache spread through my chest, and I secretly decided that once we returned home, I'd have a nutritionist properly care for him.

I nestled further into his embrace, didn't think more about it, and fell into deep sleep accompanied by his steady heartbeat.

The next morning when I woke up, Benjamin was still sleeping.

Morning light fell on his face through the curtain gaps. Not only had the sickly pallor not faded, but there was an added layer of faint darkness under his eyes, and his lips were completely colorless.

I felt a bit panicked and wanted to have the photography team cancel today's shoot, but when he woke up he was unusually stubborn. "There are only a few outdoor shots left, I can handle it."

He changed into his formal wear and kissed away all the worry in my eyes.

Throughout the day's shoot, facing the camera he was still that noble and devoted Mr. Wilson, every embrace and kiss perfectly flawless.

But during every break, he would lean wearily on my shoulder, not even having the energy to speak.

It pained me to watch, so I forcefully cut the last two night scenes and dragged him back to the hotel early.

Late at night, it started drizzling in Luminous City. I had just finished showering when my phone on the nightstand started vibrating.

It was an international call from Jade.

Afraid of waking Benjamin, I took my phone to the floor-to-ceiling window and answered in a low voice.

"Ms. White, something's happened," Jade's voice carried urgency. "I just found out that Marlowe met with Freya privately today. What's even more disgusting is that Michael, that lunatic, secretly leaked some data from the White Group's peripheral projects he'd previously accessed to Freya as a bargaining chip to curry favor with her!"

Hearing this, my stomach immediately churned with nausea.

Michael, that shameless idiot, was absolutely revolting.

Marlowe clearly wanted to team up with Freya, using this data to create trouble for me at the board meeting.

"Luca."

A hoarse, cold voice suddenly came from behind me. I turned around to find Benjamin had woken up at some point.

He sat up in bed, propping himself up. Though his complexion was pale, the ruthlessness in his eyes was undisguised. He directly picked up his own phone, ready to give orders: "Arrange the private jet, we're returning home immediately."
