Chapter 79 The Divorce Everyone Expected
Chapter 79 The Divorce Everyone Expected
Caspian checked very carefully and thoroughly with his cold eyes.
Caspian quickly carried me back to the bedroom, and for the first time in a while, his slippers and mine ended up side by side again.
He held me and kissed me, but I kept feeling like something was off.
It wasn't until my eyes opened slightly and I clearly saw his features with the lights still on that I suddenly realized the room was bright.
It was completely different from the darkness we'd always had before.
My breathing was already getting unsteady, but in this moment, I actually felt a bit uncomfortable with it.
I hesitated, then finally couldn't help asking, "Aren't you going to turn off the lights?"
His eyes stayed on my face for a long moment. "Do we have to?"
I paused before saying, "It's fine either way."
But the next moment, the room went dark.
He'd reached out and turned off the lights anyway.
Then both our bodies shifted, and I found myself under him, clearly feeling the change.
After all the exhaustion from these past days, I was physically and mentally drained. I needed this warmth, this comfort.
I rarely followed his rhythm like this, and under his lead, I fully experienced the pleasure between us.
But in this regard, Caspian was always ahead of me.
The more I gave myself over to it, the more he seemed to know exactly what I felt.
So much so that later, what I could originally keep up with gradually became impossible to follow, and in the end, I could only beg for mercy.
He bit my jaw and listened to my soft pleading.
But still, there was no mercy.
When it was finally over, I immediately turned on the bedroom light.
Looking in the mirror, from my neck down, I didn't know how many marks he'd left!
I turned and threw myself at him again, pretending to strangle him while pressing against his neck, though my hands had no strength left in them.
"You did that on purpose!"
Caspian leaned against the headboard. Even though he was still undressed, he'd already completely withdrawn from the affair, looking at me calmly.
"Yeah, I did it on purpose."
He answered so matter-of-factly.
We stared at each other. I bit my lip, not knowing how to respond.
Really, even if he did it on purpose, what could I say?
What reason could I give him not to do it again?
After a moment of silence, neither of us moved for a long time.
I got up to leave, but Caspian grabbed my arm and pulled me back.
I fell into his embrace again.
This time, I settled in obediently, hooking my arms around his neck, fingers spreading slightly as I unconsciously stroked the nape of his neck.
Hard, slightly prickly, completely different from the soft appearance he usually showed to outsiders.
I touched it unconsciously, over and over, for a long time.
After a long silence, I finally heard Caspian speak again.
"Are you going to be this busy going forward?"
I was quiet for a moment before answering. "The company stuff is just getting started. I've been meeting with industry seniors lately, learning from them. There's still a lot I need to figure out."
"What about Quinn Industries?" he asked. "Do you really want to keep it?"
I caught on immediately. "Is the case going to be closed?"
He answered lightly, confirming it.
"I will ask them if I could handle managing it, but you've already invested so much money that you can't just go to waste like that." I thought about it. "Why don't you send management to the board as the major shareholder? Better to have someone watching those people so they don't mess around."
Caspian looked at me. "I don't waste talent like that."
I choked. "What do you mean? Talent can't be wasted, but money can?"
"That's not what I meant."
I didn't know what he was thinking, and I was about to ask more when he suddenly leaned down and kissed me again.
My thoughts immediately froze, and I forgot what else I was going to ask.
But I still hadn't forgotten the question Evelyn asked when we were at the Blackwood Estate.
I looked up, meeting his deep eyes, and lost my train of thought again.
'What had Evelyn noticed that made her suddenly ask that?'
Unfortunately, I kept thinking about it until I fell asleep, but I couldn't figure out the reason.
I didn't know when Caspian left. I only knew that when dawn broke the next morning, I opened my eyes and he was gone.
I closed my eyes, turned over, and fell back into a deep sleep.
A few days later, the investigation into Quinn Industries was indeed closed. Quinn Industries passed through smoothly without any issues. And because of the previous financing, it clearly had an upward trend.
I, on the other hand, was still focused on the freight company, often staying busy until late.
During this time, I had even less time to see Caspian and spent most of my time at Jade Bay.
I basically never went back up to Moonrise Terrace anymore.
First, because I didn't have time.
Second, maybe I was deliberately avoiding it.
Half a month later, I woke from sleep and turned off the reminder coming from my phone.
I never set alarms, preferring to wake up naturally.
And the reminder on my phone wasn't an alarm.
Looking at the date displayed clearly on the phone screen, I was instantly wide awake.
After getting up, I pulled out a thick document bag from the bedside drawer and then called my lawyer.
An hour later, I handed the document bag over to the lawyer.
That same afternoon, Grayson was fishing for rich people gossip in the office when the water he'd just sipped into his mouth almost sprayed out.
At that moment, two high-level executives were having a meeting in Caspian's office.
Grayson didn't know what had possessed him, anxiously tapping the desk and waiting.
Nearly an hour passed before the two executives finally emerged from Caspian's office, and Grayson immediately rushed in.
"Miss Quinn has filed a lawsuit with the court for divorce."
Caspian slowly lifted his head from the documents, his eyes calm.
Grayson knew he would react like this.
After all, the breakdown of Vera and Damien's relationship was publicly known, and divorce was something Vera had decided on from the start, so there was nothing strange about it.
Although this news could also cause a certain level of discussion, the public was clearly more interested in the juicy parts.
Because the reason for Vera's divorce petition was that the couple's relationship had broken down, and they'd been separated for two years.
But today happened to be her and Damien's wedding anniversary.
Their two-year wedding anniversary was also the day they'd been separated for two years.
How could news like that not interest the public?
Grayson looked at Caspian, barely able to suppress his gossipy curiosity. "In other words, after Miss Quinn married Damien, the two of them never actually lived as a married couple?"
