Chapter 63 We Weren’t Supposed to See Each Other This Often
That night, Caspian came back to Moonrise Terrace around ten, which was unusually early for him.
The elevator doors opened slowly, and there I was again, waiting by his door like I had been doing for weeks now.
His elevator went straight into the penthouse, so technically I could just walk in once the doors opened, but I never did. Always waited at the door for him to let me in first.
It was probably extreme how careful I was about that.
When he saw me, I stood up and smiled in greeting, then followed him inside without needing to be asked.
I should've had so many questions for him by now, but in the end, I didn't ask a single one. I was scared that asking would just make everything more complicated than it already was.
From the very beginning, Caspian had been impossible for me to read. Even now, after we'd been sleeping together for a while and should've been familiar with each other, I still had no idea what kind of person he really was.
The only thing I could be certain of was that he was still interested in my body, and based on past experience, as long as I took even a little initiative, he'd take what I was offering.
Tonight included.
The first time I'd come into his bedroom, I'd been uncomfortable with everything, especially those floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows that reflected the glittering river and the busy city lights in a sweeping 270-degree view.
"Can you close the curtains..." I grabbed his arm and asked quietly, even though the room was already dark.
Caspian only gave me three words in response. "No need."
I wasn't worried about being seen, this was Moonrise Terrace after all, and the privacy was excellent. I just wasn't used to looking up and seeing that dazzling world outside while being trapped in his arms and sinking endlessly into him.
But later on, compared to the storm that man could stir up, that small discomfort really got left behind completely.
I'd caught up on sleep during the day, thinking I'd have enough energy tonight, but in the end, I still couldn't hold out and passed out anyway.
It wasn't until Caspian lifted me from the bed that I jerked awake in surprise. "What time is it?"
He carried me toward the bathroom. "Three."
I tried to brace myself upright. "Put me down, I'll wash myself and go back after..."
Caspian stopped suddenly and looked at me. "Go back?"
The second he asked, I realized my mistake.
I quickly wrapped my arms around his neck and whispered, "I can't go back."
After the bathroom, Caspian carried me back to bed again, and I really wasn't comfortable lying there in his huge bed.
"I'm picky about beds, I can't sleep in unfamiliar ones..."
"I have terrible sleeping habits, I'm worried I'll scare you..."
"I snore and grind my teeth and drool and kick off the blankets..."
I listed off excuse after excuse, but in the end, I was still tucked between his pillows and gradually drifted off to sleep anyway.
When the sky started getting light, Caspian opened his eyes. The room was as quiet as always, until he turned his head and saw the person lying next to him.
Vera was still asleep, breathing softly and silently, and the black pillowcase made her pale skin and face look like something out of a dream.
Caspian raised his hand and was about to touch Vera's eyebrows when he stopped himself. His hand stayed suspended in the air for a long moment before he finally pulled it back, then lifted the blanket and got up.
He didn't want to worry Vera, but he didn't expect that the moment he sat up, she'd wake up too.
Vera clearly couldn't even open her eyes properly, but still struggled to sit up. "Is it morning already? Are you leaving? I'll go with you..."
Caspian looked back at me confused state. "Don't want to sleep more?"
"No." I could barely get one eye open. "If you leave, I won't even be able to get down from the elevator later..."
Even stuck like this, I still managed to remember that small detail.
"Sleep." He said. "I'll call you again when I leave."
I was really exhausted, so when I heard that, I barely opened one eye to look at him and mumbled something before lying back down.
When I opened my eyes again, the sky was already bright. I stared at the unfamiliar room and unfamiliar view for a moment before turning to find the electronic clock by the bed showing nine thirty.
Where was Caspian? Didn't he say he'd call me before leaving?
I reached for my phone to check, but saw an unfamiliar card underneath it instead. When I picked it up, it turned out to be the owner's access card for Moonrise Terrace.
I breathed a sigh of relief. At least I wouldn't be trapped here after all.
I got myself together, and after leaving Moonrise Terrace, I went back to Jade Bay first to change clothes, then took out the access card and stared at it for a moment. In the end, I still tucked it into my purse and kept it with me.
For me, familiar environments were always more comfortable and reassuring. I got out of bed planning to shower but suddenly heard the doorbell ring.
When I opened the door, I was surprised to see Caspian's driver standing there.
The driver handed me the thermos he was holding. "Mr. Vale asked me to bring this to you."
I took it and opened it to find a pot of hot porridge inside.
"Why did he send me this?" I was genuinely confused. Was he worried I wouldn't eat breakfast and would be hungry or something?
The driver thought for a moment before saying, "He was probably worried you'd feel sick on an empty stomach when you woke up."
I was really shocked now, but didn't ask more questions, just said, "Thank you for your trouble."
After the driver left, I closed the door and sat at the dining table staring at the pot of porridge for a while.
Even though things with Caspian had become clear between us, I honestly didn't think we needed to see each other every day. His stamina was ridiculous, sure, but people always needed their own space. What man wanted a woman who was constantly clinging to him?
How long could we keep things fresh if we were meeting and sleeping together this often?
Men were creatures who tended to like novelty and get bored with the old, especially someone like Caspian, who was so attractive.
In my initial calculations, this relationship wasn't going to last long anyway. But in those calculations, I hadn't expected it to be quite this intense and heated either.
