Chapter 94

“Stop!” The guard at the entrance shouted as Damien approached. He stopped as commanded immediately, while the guard walked to him. Judging from the fierce and wicked look on his face Damien could tell that this was one of Malachi’s men, not the true guards of Romulus. “State your purpose here.”

“Malachi has…” He paused when he noticed the mistake he had made at the quick raise of the guard’s eyebrow. “Sorry, Lord Malachi has asked me to take charge of the preparation of his wedding. I’m here to have a look around the palace.” He glanced around, his nose scrunched, like he wasn’t impressed with what he was seeing. “A royal wedding is going to be happening here soon?”

The guard didn’t provide a reply to his question, instead he asked, “Who are you supposed to be, I have never seen you before. Shouldn’t you be home having your grand-kids look after you.” He eyed the old man, visibly irritated by his appearance. “What would someone like you know about anything and why would Malachi appoint you as the one in charge? I find that hard to believe.”

“Do you want to keep questioning me? Maybe you should go question Malachi himself, let’s see if he would like that. You should also know, Malachi would be really angry if he knows you are stopping me from carrying out preparations for his wedding.”

This was what finally got the guard, he looked pissed, but Damien could see the fear in his eyes. He moved aside. “Fine, go do what you have to do. But I have my eyes on you, try anything funny and you’re dead.”

“Ok,” he muttered and continued in, but the guard wasn’t playing when he said he had his eyes on Damien as he followed him. Damien sighed and turned around to face him. “Shouldn’t you remain in your post? I think that’s for the best. I wouldn’t want any distractions.”

“I won’t provide any distraction, go on and-”

“What’s going on there?” The two men looked up to find Gideon looking down at them from the balcony. Damien grinned, flashing Gideon his creamy stained teeth. “You, you’re the elder Lord Malachi has been expecting, what’s taking you so long?”

“I arrived a few minutes ago, but the guard won’t allow me to pass.”

“I’m sorry sir, I was just being conscious of who I let into the palace,” the guard was quick to defend himself.

“Enough of that, allow him in,” he ordered and went back in. Damien looked over at the guard with a victory smirk on his face, before proceeding.

Damien wasn’t given the freedom he thought he would be given. Gideon followed him everywhere and if he tried to do something more order than what was expected he would be yelled at. There was nothing Damien wanted to do than tear Gideon’s heart out. But he couldn’t, he was still under cover, at the moment he was not Damien, Alpha of Bloodmoon pack. “Ok, I think I’m done here. This right here would be the perfect place to hold the wedding.” He was referring to the throne room. “Every other place is too dark or too bright, and we can’t do it outside because the sun is really harsh this season, we don’t want the Lord sweating while saying his wedding vows. That’s all for today, I’ll be back with some helping hands soon to help with the decorations.” He took a step back, then another and two more.

“Watch where you’re going,” Gideon warned when Damien got too close to him. “Don’t lay your filthy hands on me, if you’re done here, you may leave now.”

“Oh sorry,” Damien said, turning to face him. “I didn’t see you there.” But as he took another step forward, he stepped on his garment and lost his balance, going down to the floor and also succeeding to take Gideon down along with him.

“You stupid fool!” Gideon shouted pushing Damien away before he could even try to get up himself. “You’re so lucky, Lord Malachi is the only person stopping me from killing you, now get out from here!”

“S-sorry,” Damien kept on apologizing as he got to his feet slowly, then proceeded to run away, which was just him walking really fast, he placed his hands inside his pocket, keeping his head down and although he could feel Gideon’s eyes on his neck, he didn’t look back, afraid that if he did Gideon would get suspicious and know that Damien had been successful in getting the key.

“I’ve got the key!” Damien announced when he got back to Elvis place. “Luckily he doesn’t suspect a thing anytime soon. I’ll have to leave now and free Paluma.”

Elvis nodded his head. “Yes, but you have to be very careful.”

“Yes…I was thinking you should come with me.”

“Come with you?”

“Yes. If I disappear at the same time as Paluma, Malachi would believe you would know something about it, since you spoke up for me during the last meeting. I’m afraid he will try to harm you.” Elvis was already shaking his head, but Damien’s next words stopped him. “Or your family. If you aren’t afraid, at least to protect them.”

“I can’t just run away, I was born here and I plan to die here.”

“I’m not asking you to abandon your people, I’m asking you to stay alive. If Malachi knows you knew about this—I mean, knowing the wicked soul he is, he could harm and do much worse than just cause harm. If you aren’t going to do it for yourself, at least for them. Also I promise that it won’t be forever.”

“Won’t it be forever? No offense Alpha, but do you really think we can defeat Malachi? You understand how long he has wanted to rule Romulus? There’s no way he’s going to give all that up.”

“I know, I know, but whatever may happen, I know we are not going to lose this battle. You can trust my words,” Damien assured him.

“Ok then. Let’s do this.”
