Chapter 109: A Clumsy Trick

Chapter 109: A Clumsy Trick

"Are you kidding me?" Ethan almost laughed at how ridiculous this was.

"I've heard a lot about you, Ethan," Silas said. "They say you're a real fighter. That you settled everything with your fists in prison."

He looked Ethan up and down with open contempt. "Since you're nothing but a violent brute, let's play this your way — the crude way you lowlifes love so much."

Silas snapped his fingers, and a man stepped out from the shadows behind him.

The guy had to be over seven feet tall. Muscles bulging everywhere, a vicious scar across his face, both arms covered in tattoos. One look and you knew he was the kind of man who had killed opponents in underground bare-knuckle fights.

He walked up beside Silas, glared at Ethan, then slowly raised his right hand and drew a finger across his throat.

Ethan looked at him.

That's it?

They sent an ordinary guy — someone who'd never even touched a gene serum — to fight him?

Mia and Grace exchanged a glance from where they stood. Both girls were barely holding back laughter.

Clearly, Silas had only heard through the grapevine that Ethan "could fight." And that was the extent of his intel.

"So this is your big play?" Ethan loosely tugged at his tie, not even bothering to take off his suit jacket. "Fine. Let's wrap this up fast, I still need to cut the cake. We starting now?"

"Hold on." Silas lifted his chin with a smug look. "To make this little brawl a bit more interesting, we need some ground rules."

He gestured, and a bodyguard stepped forward carrying a small box with a few folded slips of paper inside.

"Each slip has a body part written on it. We each draw one. Whatever part you draw, you can't use it during the fight."

Silas looked at Ethan.

"Fair game, right?"

Ethan felt like laughing, but he just shrugged and reached into the box, pulling out a slip. He unfolded it.

Right hand.

Then the big man pulled out his slip. He opened it.

Nose.

"You're cheating!"

Grace pointed straight at Silas and let loose.

"You're telling a professional fighter he can't use his nose? What kind of restriction is that? You're absolutely shameless!"

Silas just spread his hands.

"Grace, watch your mouth. This is God's arrangement. Luck is part of the game too. If you're scared, you can still get on your knees and beg — there's still time."

"Can we start?" Ethan tucked his right hand into his trouser pocket, leaving only his left hand free, standing there like he had nowhere better to be.

"Get him! Break his bones! I want to hear him scream!" Silas stepped back and shouted with excitement.

"I'll show you what real pain feels like." The big man grinned and charged at Ethan.

Silas had already grabbed a bottle of champagne, already picturing Ethan crumpled on the floor, begging for mercy.

A thunderous crack exploded through the room.

No screaming. No back-and-forth.

Ethan casually raised his left hand and slapped the man across the face.

The man's face caved on impact. A few bloody teeth flew from his mouth.

Then his entire body slammed into the floor. Out cold.

The whole thing took under two seconds.

"That — that's impossible. What did you do?"

Silas scrambled backwards in panic, his legs gave out and he collapsed onto the sofa. He jabbed a finger at Ethan and screamed, "Kill him! Kill him now!"

The shadows in the corner of the room twisted in a way that made no sense. A wave of dread instantly filled the space.

Grace and Hailey instinctively moved closer to Mia.

Ethan narrowed his eyes, watching the figure slowly emerge from the darkness.

That energy. That wild, unstable surge of gene power.

Exactly the same as the ones he'd faced at the Friesen Villa earlier tonight.

So the Gattuso family had already joined forces with The Aeterna Causality.

But what happened next surprised everyone in the room.

The figure didn't go for Ethan.

It lunged toward the sofa and grabbed Silas by the back of his collar mid-shout.

"What are you doing? I told you to kill him!" Silas thrashed wildly.

"Shut up, you idiot!" The figure's voice was hoarse, and the fear in it was impossible to hide. "We can't stay here. We have to leave. Right now!"

The figure knew exactly what had happened. Less than twenty minutes ago, one of the organization's top executor squads had gone completely dark somewhere outside Boston.

And based on the last data they managed to send back, the thing that wiped them out was standing right in front of him.

Stay and fight this man?

That was just another word for suicide.

Silas was arrogant, but he wasn't completely stupid. He didn't argue.

As the figure dragged him toward the back exit, he screamed at Ethan one last time.

"This isn't over, Ethan! You think being able to fight means you've won?! The Gattuso family will erase your company, your women, and you — all of it!"
