Thirty

Tatiana Whoever thought that the god-king was such a worry hen. It was endearing.

“You are enjoying the fact that I am worried over you so much right now right?” Chandler glared at me and I grinned as I nodded the best I could without turning myself to the side and expelling the contents in my stomach.

“Well, it is not every day that the god-king who is known for war and fighting would be seen babying his wife and being so worried,” I said through my parched throat, and although it was scratchy, I was smart enough not to try and drink water in the bid to reduce my discomfort.

That would just make me even sicker and I would start crying… It scared Chandler so much the first time it happened but after a week of constant tiredness and regular repeats, I was getting good at the sickness.

We still do not know what was wrong with me and we would have suspected that I was pregnant if not for the fact that the sickness happens in the afternoons mostly instead of the mornings, and I was a foreigner, so it was expected that something in this land will make me feel sick. Although I was finally sick, we have not been able to determine the cause of it yet.

“If you were not so sick,” Chandler mumbled under his breath as he glared at me and while I could not laugh or make sudden movements to dislodge my resting state and make me vomit, I could let him see the laughter in my eyes.

Of course, that just made him curse more at my humor.

“I should not listen to you about not telling the physician since I would be gone, how am I expected to leave you while you are sick…” Chandler griped as Thann looked at him with raised eyebrows.

“You should have thought of that before deciding to go to war,” Thann mumbled under his breath.

“What?” Chandler growled and Thann said quickly.

“Nothing, I am just worried about Tatiana too, I will be leaving her behind too,” Thann said as he fixed a worried expression on his face as he looked at me.

I really could not help the laughter that bubbled out of me and within seconds I was turned to the side of the bed as I expelled the contents in my stomach while tears came out of my eyes.

Still, I was happy, and I knew that I would miss these two greatly when they were off to war. They were really fun to be around.

And Chandler could get on my nerves. Even after he has already left. The man sent the chief royal physician to attend to me since he would not be around and although at my orders, Garnet has been slamming the door on the physician’s face and he has not given up, one afternoon while I was too tired, I told Garnet to let him and he and came in.

“Your majesty, you finally allowed me in.” He said and in response, I glared at him.

“I do not need herbal medicines to take, I will be fine by evening.” I groaned.

“Only for you to go back to the way you were before the next afternoon.” The physician retorted and I kept quiet while I glared at him.

He held on to my wrists just as Garnet opened the door for his assistant to come in too, she was a little late today because she was not hoping that I would let him in just like I have been doing for the past five days.

“When was the last time you had your flow?” He asked as my cheeks turned red. He let go of my hand and reached into the bag he brought with him.

“I do not see when my monthly flow affects my health, I am sick every afternoon, not every morning, and pregnancy sickness is called morning, not afternoon sickness.” I quipped and the man shook his head.

“I understand your reluctance to tell me your Majesty but try and recall.” He said as if I was the one annoying him.

Deciding to humor him, I thought back to when I had my flow, and I came up with a date that was about two months ago. I looked at the physician with my eyes widened and he confirmed my thought with a nod.

“I believe that congratulations are in order, you need to take it easy for a couple of days so you can assess how your body is like and you can determine what to do. As for now, I will give you a tonic which would stop this afternoon sickness of yours.” He stated and I stared at Garnet who had her hands over her mouth.

“A child, My queen.” She stated.

“Should we send the news to the king?” He asked but I shook my head.

“No, I would want to tell him this myself,” I said with a cry only for the sudden movement to make my head spin and I turned to the edge of the bed and Garnet put the chamber pot underneath the stream which I was letting out of my mouth.

As soon as I stopped heaving, I asked the physician. “How soon can I take this medicine and stop this damn torture?” I asked and he smiled.

“As soon as you stop heaving.” He responded and I smiled in response to him. After leaving me with some guidelines, he left me in the room.

I was too excited to tell them not to spread the news and that came back to haunt me.

Breena POV

“My lady, you asked that we tell you if there are any changes?” A maid said in front of me as I lifted my face from the letter I was drafting to look at the maid who came in after I answered the knock, it was one of those maids that I caught gossiping.

There is no loyalty like the one born out of fear and guilt and that was the type that bounded her to me.

“What changes happened?” I asked, quietly holding my breath to hear that the sickness has taken a turn for the worse, instead my world crashed.

“She is pregnant.” The maid said and my quill stopped moving.

“Get out,” I ordered the maid and she rushed out like she was expecting the order.

That was when I let out a scream. My carefully crafted world, the position, I struggled hard to obtain, all will soon be gone all because the queen decides to be pregnant. No! I will not let go of my position so easily.

“I had wanted the king to be back before he learns that she is a traitor, I wanted her to suffer at his hands but there was no way he would punish her while she was carrying his child or when she becomes the mother of his first child. No.

It was left to me to make sure that she is punished for betraying my kingdom.

And I have the perfect means of doing so.

With that thought, my lips curled into a smile as I ripped the letter I was writing into shreds and started writing another, this one would cause the kingdom a huge setback and I could pin on Tatiana. She was going to leave all by herself.
