Chapter 194 Receiving the Invitation Letter
The next day, after Anne checked with Shatoya about how things were going, she had word sent out that the newly arrived Shatoya would be responsible for managing part of Virlet Manor's affairs. Only then did she take Elisa with her in a carriage to the royal capital.
Elisa sat in the carriage, happily stretching her body. Ever since Anne had brought everyone back to the Virlet family territory, she had been helping Anne handle territorial affairs.
Especially during those days when Anne was away, Elisa had to pretend to be Anne while handling all the business by herself. Fortunately, Kyle later had someone introduce a few reliable people to share the workload, and the Kivara family, upon learning that Anne had gone alone to the eastern battlefield, also sent people to help. Only then did Elisa get a chance to breathe.
She had already spent three years at the Titan family helping Anne with affairs, so once the reconstruction work and territorial operations returned to normal, Elisa could finally spare some energy to focus on Anne herself.
As for Anne bringing her along on this trip to the royal capital, for Elisa, it was simply an unexpected delight!
"Miss Anne, I sent someone to notify the capital a few days ago. The servants at the Virlet family's residence in the royal capital will have everything cleaned up in advance to ensure it's ready for our stay."
Elisa turned a page in her notebook. "But why are you so sure we'll be staying in the capital for a while?"
Anne was reading a book in her hands. Hearing this, she looked up at Elisa. "This time I'm going to the capital, His Majesty the King and Queen Mother Smith will find out about my plans to marry Friedel. They'll definitely keep me there to discuss things for a while. As for that Selyma, she definitely won't behave herself either. Rather than let her run back and forth between the capital and Virlet Manor, I might as well scare her now so she won't dare make trouble with me for a while."
With that, Anne sighed. "And there's Dr. Pascal. The old man wrote to me saying he's been there recently and wants to check on my physical condition and make some adjustments. So all things considered, I have quite a bit to deal with."
Elisa nodded thoughtfully. "No wonder you brought me along and had Shatoya help manage the household."
Anne smiled. "Shatoya used to be Mother's personal maid. She knows a lot. If you encounter things you don't know in the future, you can learn from her too. Besides, you've been helping me at home for so long, of course I had to bring you out to relax a bit."
"I knew Miss Anne was good to me!"
The carriage slowly made its way toward the royal capital. By the time they arrived at the Virlet family's residence, it was already evening of the second day.
Anne rested for the night, and early the next morning, the carriage carried Anne and Elisa to the manor where Princess Kirenya was hosting her party.
This manor was quite large, a gift from the king before last when he was still on the throne, given to Princess Kirenya so that even after she married, she could return to the royal capital anytime to live.
Princess Kirenya held a party at this manor every year. During the day, people would chat and play in the courtyard, and at night they would dance together in the ballroom. Those invited were almost all important figures in the Soth Empire. Most people considered receiving an invitation an honor, even though deep down they didn't like this cruel and cold-blooded princess.
A small chapel had been built on the west side of the courtyard. The princess would invite people from the church to pray for her and seek divine protection.
The princess's faith wasn't a secret. Some people privately mocked her, saying it was ridiculous that a woman with blood on her hands would dare hope for divine blessing, but no one dared say it to her face.
When the Titan family received the invitation, almost everyone couldn't believe their eyes.
Including Candy, who had also heard what this banquet represented—forget about the family's current state, even at their most glorious, the family head wouldn't have been worthy of setting foot on that land.
After all, to receive an invitation, you had to be either from a count's family or above, or a famous figure known far and wide. What right did a small Titan family have to receive the princess's favor?
Though Old Lady Titan was also somewhat suspicious, looking at the crest on the messenger's chest and the magnificent carriage at the Titan family's door, she could only smile obsequiously as she took it from him, expressing that they would definitely attend on time.
The moment the carriage left the door, Nina shrieked and rushed over. She hugged Old Lady Titan and carefully held up the invitation. "Mother! We can go to the princess's party, Princess Kirenya's party! Once we go, the nobles around here won't dare look down on us anymore. Those noble ladies who usually despise me will definitely kneel down and lick my shoe tips, begging to be my friends!"
Candy glared at them. "What are you so proud of? Princess Kirenya's party only invites high-ranking nobles or famous figures. Are you either of those?"
Old Lady Titan glanced at Candy and sneered. "We're certainly not, but you don't think this invitation is for you, do you?"
Nina also rolled her eyes disdainfully. "Please, you are indeed famous, but for what? Do I need to repeat it?"
"You!"Candy lunged at Nina again, but Holden stepped in front of her, blocking Candy with a cold stare. "How much longer are you going to hurt my family?"
This cutting remark made everyone present remember that Drona upstairs was still unconscious.
Candy gritted her teeth and backed away a few steps, but the look in her eyes toward Holden no longer held any love.
"Go ahead, go! I'll be waiting to see you make fools of yourselves!"
Trion and Mephist stood to the side. Looking at that invitation, she felt there must be some conspiracy behind it. After all, Trion still had some self-awareness.
But looking at Old Lady Titan and the others, they clearly didn't suspect anything wrong with this invitation. Please, they were ridiculously overconfident!
Even Mephist beside Trion straightened his back. He turned and asked quietly, "Dear, what do you think I should wear to the party?"
"Just wear your cashmere one." Trion answered instinctively, then quickly realized something was wrong. "Dear, don't you find it strange? Why would Princess Kirenya suddenly invite us, especially now when we have nothing!"
