Chapter 77 Magical Power Studies

Chapter 77 Magical Power Studies

Cecilia Blackwood's POV

Over the next few days, my ears finally got some peace, and my desk and chair were no longer collateral damage.

My life officially settled into a routine—classes, meals, training. Three points on a map.

To others, this kind of life might seem boring, but to me, it was more than enough. At the very least, it was far better than my days as an invisible ghost.

Of course, the main reason was Kane's company. Though he never cracked jokes or tried to make me laugh, just having him by my side lifted my spirits.

That evening, we practiced Dodge Magic together on the back hill for a long time.

By the time we headed back to the dorms, night had fallen completely. There was no moonlight tonight—nothing but pitch-black darkness stretching before us.

But I wasn't afraid. I could sense Kane's presence at every moment, and somehow, with him there, danger didn't matter.

The next moment, a warm hand clasped mine. I froze as if struck by lightning.

"This..."

Kane said nothing, and I swallowed the words on the tip of my tongue. Because this feeling... wasn't bad at all.

When we reached my dorm entrance, Kane released my hand and said softly, "You're here. Get some rest. I'll wait for you at your door tomorrow afternoon."

"Okay."

I gave no other response, because at that moment I didn't dare look Kane in the eye.

Once back in my room, I stood before the mirror, my heart flooding with relief—my face was as red as a ripe apple.

Thank goodness I hadn't looked at Kane directly, or I didn't know how awkward things would've gotten!

But as they say, embarrassment delayed is not embarrassment avoided. Jenny flashed over to stand in front of me.

"Well, well, why's your face so red? Didn't you say you were training? Does training make you blush now?"

I swallowed reflexively. "Um... training is exhausting, and it was kind of hot tonight, so it's normal for my face to be red, right?"

Jenny nodded repeatedly. "Oh yes, yes, totally normal. Good thing I didn't go train with you tonight, or my face would be red too!"

I pursed my lips, wanting to argue but not knowing what to say. In the end, I just washed my face quickly and collapsed onto my bed.

I tried to fall asleep as soon as possible, but my mind was flooded with images of Kane holding my hand. I could even still feel his touch.

Unsurprisingly, I barely slept that night.

Fortunately, there were no classes this morning, so I could catch up on sleep in the dorm.

But as they say, what you fear most is what comes to pass. An hour before class time, the schedule suddenly changed!

First period this morning: Magical Power Studies!

"Magical Power Studies? That's a brand-new course!" I couldn't help but exclaim.

Jenny nodded beside me. "Yes, all those previous courses were just basic magic classes. This one's the advanced version."

I thought back to the Magical Power Studies books I'd seen in the library. Essentially, it was about channeling your own power to learn more advanced magic.

For shapeshifters, they could not only complete transformations but also awaken new abilities.

For mages who had awakened other powers, they could practice corresponding spells.

Ultimately, Magical Power Studies was about learning advanced magic based on whatever power you'd awakened.

Jenny smiled. "I still remember when I first learned advanced magic—it was so interesting, and my healing spells improved incredibly fast!"

"Anyway, you'd better seize this opportunity. If you truly master this course, your abilities will undergo a complete transformation!"

Jenny grew more excited as she spoke, but I couldn't bring myself to smile.

Because while others dared to release their powers, I didn't. I couldn't.

If anyone discovered a witch's power, I didn't know how much trouble it would bring me.

Though this was a magic academy, people still spoke of witch power with dread—some even compared it to Dark Mage abilities.

At this thought, my expression grew unnatural and my breathing quickened.

Perhaps noticing something was wrong, Jenny patted my arm gently. "Don't be nervous. Your mental power is already way stronger than other freshmen. You'll be fine in this class."

I returned a bitter smile but said nothing more.

Some things I couldn't tell Jenny yet. Couldn't tell Kane either.

I quickly washed up and applied light makeup, trying to mask my inner tension.

But even so, Kane still noticed something was off. "What's wrong? Is something bothering you?"

I shook my head lightly. "Nothing, nothing."

Kane frowned. "There's definitely something! Tell me, what happened? Did someone bully you again?"

Anger was already kindling in Kane's eyes. I shook my head frantically.

"No, no, you've got it wrong. It's mainly because there's a new course today, and I didn't sleep well last night. I'm worried something might go wrong."

Kane shook his head quickly. "It won't. Absolutely won't."

"Well, I'll take your word for it."

When I arrived at the classroom, though no one bothered me, my heart refused to settle.

Before long, the bell rang, and a tall man walked in and stood at the podium.

"Let me introduce myself. I'm Darlok, your Magical Power Studies instructor."

"Today is the first class. We won't be learning any new spells. Instead, each of you will come up and demonstrate your power. Afterward, I'll create personalized magical training based on each person's strengths."

Those two sentences sent my heart plummeting to the bottom!

I'd been clinging to a shred of hope—maybe this first class wouldn't require releasing our powers. Clearly, I'd been thinking too much.

One student after another stepped up to the podium and released their power.

Wind, rain, thunder, lightning... every kind of power imaginable, plus shapeshifters.

Soon, it was my turn.

I glanced at Kane beside me, hoping he'd go first. Though I knew what was coming couldn't be avoided, all I could do now was stall.

The moment Kane stepped onto the platform, Darlok raised his hand. "You don't need to release your power."

Kane said nothing and simply turned to leave.

Perhaps for him, this was already routine—no teacher dared ask a Dark Mage to release their power.

If the power got out of control even slightly, the entire classroom could be destroyed. This was no joke!

The next moment, Mr. Darlok's gaze landed on me. "You're the only one left in the class. What are you standing around for? Do I need to personally invite you?"

I stood up and nodded lightly. "Sorry, I didn't mean to."

Standing on the platform, facing Mr. Darlok and the eyes of all my classmates, I still hadn't released my power.

I knew perfectly well—once a witch's power was released, there would be no taking it back. I might even be expelled from the academy!
