Chapter 47: Power Shift
Chapter 47: Power Shift
The city outside was buzzing with its usual rhythm, but Eve’s world had gone strangely quiet these past few days. Every time she picked up her phone and read Lucas’s last text—Tell him. Or I will—her stomach churned. His words weren’t just a warning; they were a challenge, a command disguised in sharp edges.
She hadn’t replied. She couldn’t.
And yet, the thought of him lingered like a shadow she couldn’t escape. His presence clung to her even when he wasn’t around—his voice, his scent, his touch. She hated how her mind betrayed her, pulling her into his gravity.
But Daniel… he deserved the truth. Or maybe he deserved to be destroyed by it. She didn’t know which anymore.
It was late evening when Eve finally sat across from Daniel in their penthouse. The warm glow of the chandelier above cast golden light over the dining table, but the atmosphere was cold, sharp.
Daniel was scrolling through his phone, distracted as always. The food on his plate had gone untouched.
“Daniel,” she said softly, her fingers curling around the edge of the tablecloth.
He hummed, not looking up.
“I need to tell you something,” she pushed.
At the seriousness in her voice, he set the phone down and leaned back in his chair. His blue eyes narrowed, scanning her face for cracks. “What is it now? Another complaint about me working late?”
Eve’s throat tightened. Her heart pounded so violently that she swore he could hear it. “It’s about Lucas.”
The moment his name left her lips, Daniel stiffened. “What about him?”
She inhaled sharply, then let it spill, her voice trembling and steady all at once. “I’ve been… seeing him.”
The silence that followed was deafening. Daniel didn’t move, didn’t blink, didn’t breathe. For a second, Eve thought he hadn’t heard her.
Then, in a sudden, explosive motion, he stood up, the chair screeching against the floor. His hand came down hard across her face. The sharp crack echoed through the penthouse.
Eve stumbled, clutching her cheek, her eyes burning with humiliation and fury.
“You—” Daniel’s voice shook with rage, “—you dare tell me this? After everything I’ve done for you? After Sienna—” he stopped himself, jaw tightening. “Lucas? Out of all people, him?”
Tears threatened to fall, but Eve refused to let them. “You don’t own me, Daniel. You never did.”
His chest rose and fell with heavy breaths. He looked at her as though she were a stranger. “You’re pathetic.”
The words cut deeper than the slap.
Eve couldn’t stay another second. She grabbed her purse and stormed out, her cheek still stinging, her mind already racing toward the only place she knew she’d be wanted.
The night air was cold, biting against her skin as she rushed into her car. Her hands shook as she gripped the steering wheel. Tears she had held back finally spilled, blurring the city lights into messy streaks.
She drove aimlessly at first, but she knew where she was going. She couldn’t stop herself.
By the time she reached Lucas’s building, her face was blotched with tears and her body trembled with a mixture of rage, hurt, and desperation.
When he opened the door, he didn’t look surprised. He stood there in a fitted black shirt, sleeves rolled up, his presence overwhelming even in the soft light of his apartment.
“Eve,” he murmured, almost like he had been expecting her.
Without a word, she threw herself against him, burying her face in his chest. His arms came around her instantly, strong and grounding.
“He hit me,” she whispered, voice cracking.
Lucas stiffened, his jaw tightening as his hand stroked her back. “He doesn’t deserve you.”
She pulled back to look up at him, her eyes searching his unreadable face. “Then why do I feel like I don’t deserve you either?”
Something flickered in his eyes—dark, dangerous, but intoxicating. He cupped her face, his thumb brushing the red mark on her cheek. “You belong to me, Eve. You’ve always known that.”
Her lips parted, a shiver running through her as his words wrapped around her like chains.
“Then prove it,” she whispered.
Their kiss wasn’t soft. It wasn’t tender. It was raw, consuming—two storms colliding. Lucas’s mouth claimed hers with ruthless hunger, and Eve gave in, desperate for the fire he ignited in her veins.
He lifted her effortlessly, carrying her to the bedroom as she clung to him. Clothes fell away in hurried motions, each piece discarded like a secret revealed.
When he finally pushed her down onto the bed, Eve felt stripped bare—not just physically, but emotionally. For the first time, she wasn’t pretending. She wasn’t playing Daniel’s obedient partner or Lucas’s rival. She was just… her.
Lucas hovered above her, his gaze sharp and unreadable. “Are you sure?”
Her answer came in the form of a kiss, needy and fierce. “I don’t want to think anymore. Just… take me.”
And he did.
The night unfolded in waves of heat and fire. His touch was everywhere—rough, dominant, claiming. She didn’t resist; she begged for more. Every gasp, every cry that left her lips felt like surrender.
Lucas whispered things against her skin that both thrilled and terrified her.
“You’re mine.”
“You’ll never escape me.”
“No one will ever touch you like this again.”
And the worst part—she believed him.
By the time exhaustion took over, Eve lay tangled in the sheets, her body trembling from the storm they had created. Lucas lit a cigarette by the window, his figure a shadow against the city lights.
She felt raw, vulnerable, but alive.
Eve didn’t notice the faint red light blinking in the corner of the room. She didn’t notice the small black lenses tucked discreetly into the corners, hidden in plain sight.
But Lucas did. He had placed them there long before tonight.
He turned back to look at her, sprawled on his bed, marked by him. A slow, knowing smile curved on his lips.
“Sleep well, Eve,” he murmured.
Because tonight wasn’t just passion. Tonight was power.
Unseen by her, the cameras captured everything—their kisses, their whispers, their surrender.
Lucas had just shifted the game. And Eve didn’t even know it.
