Chapter 27
Chapter 27
Pretend
The word rang again in her mind as she got up from the end, running her sweaty palms on her clothes.
Cleo wiped her face vigorously as she tried to get herself in check.
She may not be aware of what was going on exactly hit one thing that she knew for certain was that Elliot was not who he said he was.
She now believed without even as much as a shred of doubt that he was not someone that she should trust.
“Cleo, honey, open the door. Let’s talk about things. It’s not what you think.”
He said while knocking ah the door again but this time, she did not miss the way the knocks became a little more aggressive.
“What are you doing here Elliot?”
She asked making sure that her voice sounded irritated.
She could only hope that she was convincing enough to make him believe that she had nothing figured out.
Cleo took in a deep breathe as she tried to calm her raging heart.
There are no visible cameras in the room now but every instinct of Cleo was screaming at her that she was being watched.
Been Elliot that was on the outside of the room might be watching her as well.
To THEM she just found out that her husband and best friend had been having an affair behind her back.
She had to play the part and she had to play it well.
Even though Cleo was unsure of exactly what was going on, she had some things figured out already.
She had been kidnapped and kept in this room.
Her sense of reality was being toyed
The people who took her always found a way to give her a false sense of identity as they restart tye enture process
She is being drugged and watched
The journal is very important
She should not trust anyone.
Repeating this in her mind over and over again, Cleo finally made her way to the door and flinched it open angrily.
There he was.
…Elliot Fournier with Linda behind him.
Of course he failed to mention that they had come together.
It took every ounce of strength that Cleo could muster to remain in character.
Looking at them both like this reminded her of the nightmare that she had of both of them in white in that white tiled room as she struggled against restraints on her hands and her feet.
“How did you find me Elliot?”
Cleo asked as she leaned over the door frame making sure to block their path.
From the corner of her eye, she took a peek at Linda to see that she was not the usual person that she remembered from her memories.
The Linda that they had somehow planted in her head was always cheerful, confident and joyful.
However the one standing before her now was dull and looked like a shell of herself.
Her eyes were gloomy and hooded. It was almost like she was there bad yet not there at the same time.
“I always know where to find you sweetheart and I even came here with Linda so we could all sort this through isn’t that right Linda?”
Elliot sang out and Cleo had to cross her hands over her chest in order to keep her shaking hands a secret.
“You’re right. You always did know where to find me but really Elliot? Really? You come in here with the woman that I caught you in bed with?”
Cleo said with an angry tone and almost immediately, she did not miss the small pinch that Elliot gave her hand.
Just like that, the same joyous Linda that she she knew from her memories was back.
Like she had practiced to be this person.
But of course, she knew that she needed to keep pretending.
“He’s right Megan, it was not what it looked like-“
Linda let iut a gasp as she covered her mouth with her hand.
Cleo heard her.
She said Megan….
Megan…..
Megan…..
Megan…
Where had she heard that name before?
Just the fact that Linda had blurted out that name accidentally was more than enough to cause Cleo to pause.
Megan…..
Flashes of memories that were foreign to her sweeper through her mind at a fast rate.
She did not know what she was seeing but it all felt familiar.
“Megan? Who is Megan Linda?”
Cleo asked still making sure to keep her angry tone.
She was unsure what would happen to her that time if she were to even act like she remembered anything at all.
Almost immediately, Linda’s eyes were filled with feta as she stared at Elliot, her body shaking and her lips trembling.
Aha
She had mentioned something that she was not supposed to hear.
However, Cleo could not erase the uncomfortable feeling she knew who this Megan was.
Elliot immediately took over and stood in front of Linda, blocking Cleo’s view of her.
“Megan is no one. Forget about her. Anyways what Linda was trying to say was that we-“
He started but Cleo could did not allow for him to finish his statement.
He was very good at hiding his emotions.
It was subtle but she could see that he was a tad nervous.
Pretend
The same voice resonated in her mind again and Cleo’s character became even more stable.
“So there are other women, Elliot?! Linda wasn’t the only woman that you had been sleeping around with?! Tell me how many there are?! Am I even your real wife?!
Cell asked, screaming angrily as she pounded her fists in his chest.
She payed close attention to his eyes, his lips and his countenance.
Then she saw it…
The relief that washed over his face, the way his upper lip went upwards very slightly into a smirk, the way his shoulders slumped.
Aha.
“No! No! There is no Megan. Linda just made a stupid mistake.”
He said while holding on to her and but just the mere fact that he mentioned the name, Megan again caused something to stir violently in her chest.
Then soenhjijb whispered to her.
Megan Melroy.
