Surprise attack

My gaze was set on the three story old building that stood before me. The sound of tires screeching, the doors of the cars being opened and slammed shut, and then the noise of several footsteps approaching reached my ears. Soon, they stopped behind me.

"We have found Max McCommer. Your detective's information was right, Mr. Larsen. He is just a few buildings away," said the security head of Sinister's team.

"As expected," commented Dominic from my right. "He has kept Max near him so that if his plan doesn't work out, he can flee from here with his son."

"Our men will get him out of there. This job is done. Boss and Mr. McCommer will be here with other teams at Monet's front entrance in five minutes. Now what's next?" asked the man from behind me.

I didn't answer. My eyes didn't move from the building.

With my trembling fists secured in my pockets, the lava boiling inside my chest threatening to come out, my whole form tensed, I stayed calm. The fury inside me wanted blood. Raw blood. But still, I kept silent.

Her screams, the agony in her eyes and voice, the blood and tears she shed, because of them, still tortured my memory. My heart roared in pain as if someone was stabbing it again and again.

My jaw clenched, nails dug into my palms, harsh breathing came out of me. The lava inside me wanted to come out and destroy.

They will pay. They will pay for each tear, each drop of blood and each pain she got.

If someone would be unlucky enough to come out alive from this building, they would wish they had never been born in this world.

Especially those bastards, James Monet and Milton.

A hand landed on my shoulder.

"Adrian, they're waiting for your answer. Should we wait till uncle Sinister and others arrive. Or…"

"We attack," I said, cutting Dimitri off. "Now."

The sound of boots thumping against the ground was fast come as they took the guns and other gadgets out of the cars. And soon, they were approaching the wall covered with bushes and small trees.

We were at the southern part of the building. Because this side occupied the weakest wall. The dungeon's end met this side. So less guards with almost no possibility of anyone's attacking from this side.

A surprise attack. An attack they would never be able to forget.

I didn't even blink when the deafening noise of the blast shook the ground, nor did my so-called cousin move an inch. As soon as the wall came down and the commotion rose inside, taking the gun out from my back pocket, I strode directly inside the building. Dominic right behind me.

Just as I took the first turn, men started to come out of the corners with war cries, charging forward with loaded arms.

My hand didn't hesitate once as it raised up in the air and shot the first person my eyes landed on in the head, sending them down. Then another in the heart, and then another in the gut, causing them to sputter blood.

Just like they did to my Sofia.

Blood consumed my vision, my whole form shook with uncontrollable fury. Finally, I let it out. And it demanded blood. Blood of every one of them who hurt her.

Letting out a growl, I grabbed one's throat, before smashing his head against the wall.

Our people had spread all around the place. Even John was present with his men. He fought at my left while Dominic at my right. Everything went on in a blur. Bullets flew in the air, the shouts and agonized screams of Monet's men echoed in the corridors and the smell of blood and gunpowder was high in the air.

The chaos from the distance was the sign of Sinister and Leo's arrival at the front gate.

But all I wanted was to reach my woman. To get her safely in my arms was my first priority before I ended Monet with my own hands.

"You! Take some men and look for Alex and Julia. And you!" Turning around swiftly, I faced another of my men. "Make sure no one escapes. I want everyone dead!"

"Don't worry, Mr. Larsen! No one will get out of this place alive." An aggressive determination was clear in his voice before he moved away.

"Mr. Larsen!" One of them ran to me, his features going urgent. "Ms. McCommer, she isn't in the dungeon!"

Snarling, I grabbed him by his collar. "What do you mean she isn't here?"

With his face going pale, he swallowed visibly. "W-we don't know, Mr. Larsen. We searched the entire place, but she isn't here."

"Then where is she?" I roared. My form shook in rage, at the same time an intangible fear started to rise in my chest.

"I know where she is," replied a voice behind me.

As I turned around, a man in his mid twenties with dark eyes and dark hair met me.

"Zion Monet," greeted Dimitri.

He would have joined Monet's other men on the ground till now if he wasn't the one who helped Sofia's mother coming here and making Monet agree for the DNA to buy us more time. James Monet's own son was against him.

"They shifted her to the first floor. Only Alex is here, Sofia and Julia are upstairs."

My jaw ticked.

A hand on my shoulder made me turn to Dominic.

"Go, I will handle it here," he said, darker than night eyes boring into mine, delivering some unspoken words.

'I got your back.'

And without another word, I stormed out of the place with Zion and John following close behind.

On my way to the first floor, several of Monet's dogs tried to cross my path. But no one could stop me from getting to my Sofia, my heart. One after another body fell on the ground by our bullets as Zion showed us the room where they had kept my woman.

"She should be in there, come on!"

To say my heart was thundering beneath my chest would be an understatement. Every cell of my body craved to see her, get her into my arms. As if for a moment, everything else disappeared from my mind, because all it could think about was her.

My Sofia…

With urgent strides, I approached the room before bursting the doors open.

"Sof…"

My steps faltered. Words died down in my throat.

A hollowness formed into my chest. My fingers tightened around the gun.

She wasn't there.

Only a single chair in the middle of the room with some ropes scattered on and around it greeted me.

"Where is Ms. McCommer? No one is here. You said Monet locked her in this room," John snapped, his tall form stood before Zion in an intimidating stance.

Then Monet's son's eyes met mine. My form shook with uncontrollable rage. Harsh breathing came out of me. My patience was hanging on the edge.

But because he was the only one here who could help us reach Sofia, I controlled myself not to pull the trigger at his head.

"WHERE IS SHE?" Words came through my gritted teeth.

Although he managed a calm demeanor, a nervousness that flashed across his eyes didn't go unnoticed. He then cleared his throat, stepping back from John.

"She was right here when I last checked. Maybe when you guys attacked, Dad shifted her to somewhere else?" A frown etched between his brows. "Or the way it's being difficult for his people to stop you guys, there's a possibility that he will try to escape. And…"

My shoulders tensed. "And?"

He licked his lips, clearly hesitating. "And he will take her with him. So that he can use her against you to get away safely and for the future agendas."

"James fucking Monet!" I cursed, running my hand through my hair.

"Boss, I'm sure they haven't gotten out of here yet. It's not easy to get away with our people looking for him everywhere," John said.

Grabbing Zion's collar with one hand, I pulled him to my eye level.

"This is going to be the last day of your father's life, mark my words. He is gonna regret daring to touch my woman," I hissed.

He gulped, but his gaze didn't waver from mine. "Trust me, I want nothing more than his sick ambitions to end."

Finding an honesty in his voice, I let him go before storming out of the door.

"We need to spill out. The faster we can find them, the better. We don't have much time in our hands," I said, glancing at Zion.

He nodded. "Alright, I will go to the left. You guys check the right wing."

And without wasting another second we parted our ways, with John following me.

That bastard. He thought he could take her away from me again? When I was so close to her? No fucking way! He would have to go through my fucking dead body before taking her away from me.

Tackling two more men, as we approached the staircase to go to the second floor after we checked each room on the first floor without any success, an ominous loathsome woman with a dragger tightly clutched around her dainty fingers crossed my path. Her eyes cut me with her venomous glare.

A sick smile stretched across her lips. "Going for the princess, lover boy? But sadly, you will die before you reach her. Because I," her mouth curled into a snarl, "won't let you save that bitch! She will die today! Along with her father!"

Fucking sick bitch! No wonder she joined hands with Monet.

"Get out of my way, woman, now! I don't have patience for this shit now." My fingers twitched around my gun.

"No! Leonardo's daughter will die today! He will suffer just as much as I did all my life!"

I didn't care if she was a woman at that moment. I had to get to my Sofia as soon as possible. So taking a threatening step towards her, I warned her for one last time.

"Get out of my way before I forget you're a woman."

Her eyes flashed with anger. But before she could utter a word, she was slammed against the wall with a hand firmly pressed onto her throat, keeping her in place.

"But I don't need to forget that she is a woman, do I?" Laura flashed me a smile, keeping Mary's struggling form firmly under her grip. "Now go! Get my best friend, and make sure that Monet doesn't see tonight's moon."

For the first time there was a slight respect for her in my mind. Otherwise I thought she could only push my Sofia into things that could put her into trouble.

Throwing her a nod, we then climbed up the stairs before starting to search for Monet and the others. We couldn't find Sofia anywhere. That meant only one thing, Zion was right, that bastard took her with him.

"Anything?" I asked John once he met me at the end of a hallway after we checked several empty rooms.

He shook his head, a look of apology etched into his features. "I'm sorry, Boss. But there is no one."

I cursed under my breath, getting impatient and at the same time a panic was rising inside my chest. My heart clenched even at the mere thought of losing her again.

No! I will find her! I will have to!

He can't be successful in taking her away from me again.

"They can't leave this place so soon. And definitely not through the front door or back door. Our people are all over the place. That means…"

My gaze clashed with John's.

"That means they're going for the rooftop terrace?" He finished for me. "He always keeps his chopper on the rooftop helipad for emergencies."

"Fuck! That means they're heading there. Let's go! We can't let them leave!"

Just as we turned around, ready to hunt Monet down, four men stood there, all armed. And my fucking bastard uncle smiled at us standing behind them.

"Bravo! I thought living an ordinary life for years, you don't have the guts to even kill a fly. But I was wrong, you do truly have Petrosyan blood in your veins. You have managed to stay alive till now," he said, tilting his head. Then a malicious look flashed across his eyes. "But unfortunately, you won't be for long."

"Marcus," a hiss left my lips.

"You've recognized me then. Good, it's good to know your death. I have waited years to take my brother down. And now finally, his weakness is right before me today." A smirk tugged at the end of his lips, similar to Sinister.

I cocked my head. "Oh really?"

I didn't have any time for another drama. These scums were wasting my time.

"Yes. Your father will understand now that…"

"Sadly, your dream will remain a dream today. Just like it was for the past years." And with that, I shot the man on his left, right in his chest.

Before I could target the one on the right, one of them fired at me. I was quick to avoid it, but not totally.

A hiss left my lips as the bullet touched by my arm. Blood oozed out from the graze, soaking the upper area of my sleeve.

"Boss!"

But I didn't waste a second to concern over it as I kicked the man in his gut before he could fire another time. John was fast to handle the other two.

Groaning in pain when the man fell on the ground, I finished his life as well.

And then I turned to Marcus. With a small height and huge belly, he seemed to have a bigger gut. Even when his men were down, his furious eyes didn't leave us. Round aged face was red with rage.

"You son of a bitch! You can't get out alive from here today! Just like your father and your beautiful slut! I won't…"

Before he could finish his words and get his gun out, gripping his throat, I slammed him against the wall.

"What the fuck did you say?" I roared. Rage boiled through my veins as I moved him away from the wall before slamming him against it again. "What the fuck did you say about her?"

A groan of pain escaped his lips with my knuckles meeting his face with an aggressiveness I didn't know I had. Soon blood came out of his mouth as a result of my kick in his stomach.

Suddenly more men attacked from around the corner, most likely his men. But before they could do anything, another team was present there to tackle them. John was right beside me, protecting me like a shield.

"Adrian! Leave him to me! I will take care of him. Where is Sofia?" Sinister asked, appearing on my right. With a gun in his hand, stains of blood scattered around his grey coat and light blue shirt, his alert eyes were set on me.

"They're heading towards the rooftop terrace," replied John. "Boss, leave him here. Mr. Petrosyan will handle him. Let's go! We need to hurry!"

As much as I wanted to stay back and finish him slowly, John was right. We didn't have time.

Throwing another kick in his gut, I let him slide down to the floor. "Make sure he begs for his death before you finally grant his wish."

At my words, Sinister nodded. A look of malice crossed over his features. "I definitely will. Don't worry."

And with that, I went on my way towards the other staircase that led directly to the rooftop terrace. Just like it was in the blueprint of the building. He kept this path only for him. An easy escape to reach the rooftop terrace without using the main staircase. Our people would be there, so he definitely wouldn't dare to use that route.

Tackling some more of Monet's dogs, when we finally got to the staircase, my steps haltered.

There they were. At the middle of the staircase.

With two guards guarding behind Tim and a bald man, a man somewhere in his mid-fifties was leading them. And he had a firm grip on my woman, who was letting out curses while struggling to break free.

"Sofia…"

Her name slipped through my lips as a whisper. My heart missed a beat, before it started to race down my chest. The mere sight of her was like a sprinkle of water to my burning soul.

And as if sensing my presence, her head swiftly turned back. Enchanting green eyes met mine.

Surprise, and then a relief washed over her gaze as her lower lip quivered, making my heart clench.

"Adrian!"
