Chapter 21 THE COLLAPSE AND THE SOLUTION

Chapter 21 THE COLLAPSE AND THE SOLUTION
Dorian's roar, "Unleash all your hatred, Luna!", had instantly halted Vespera's agents. Serra quickly moved through the dark tunnel, supporting Dorian’s heavy weight. Behind them, Vespera’s rage roared through the opening marble plate, echoing down the shaft like a death sentence.
"We didn't break the curse," Dorian gasped, his breath ragged. "You only made it retreat. That roar... they think the shield is cracked."
Serra paused. They had reached a large, natural cavern; the exit to the forest was near. But Dorian couldn't make it. His body was slick with cold sweat, the silver wire injury throbbing angrily, and the massive power exertion had depleted his Alpha reserve.
"Help me," Dorian's voice was strained, stripped of all pretense. He lost his balance and slid down against the rough cavern wall.
(HIGH TENSION: THE INTIMATE SACRIFICE)
Serra knelt beside him. His shirt was torn, and the seal over his heart throbbed in a sickening, necrotic black tone. It was a sign his Alpha power was critically depleted.
"The seal is pulling back," Serra whispered, panic rising in her chest. She pressed her hand over the burning seal. Looking at his defenseless form, she felt not hatred, but pure desperation. Her vengeance depended on his breath.
"Blood..." Dorian groaned, his head lolling back. "My blood... is too weak. Only... the source..."
Serra didn't hesitate. She brought her hand to her mouth. With a sharp movement, she bit into her own palm. Her blood welled up—bright, metallic, molten gold. The scent of Red Alpha blood filled the cavern.
She pressed her bleeding palm to Dorian's lips. "Drink."
Dorian’s eyes fluttered open. The scent of her blood triggered a primal instinct. He gripped her wrist, his touch searing. It was a necessary act of healing, yet it became their most intimate moment. His tongue swept over her palm, tasting the power.
As the Red Alpha blood reached Dorian's core, the black taint around the seal dissipated, replaced by a flush of color returning to his skin. His grip on her wrist tightened, pulling her closer until her forehead rested against his.
"Now, Warden," Serra whispered, staying close enough to share his breath. "Tell me how to truly break the curse. No more riddles."
Dorian sat up, empowered by her blood. He looked at her with dark sorrow. "The ritual... the texts didn't tell me everything. There is a cost to breaking the curse. A final price."
He traced the fresh wound on her hand. "It's not just your blood, Serra. Breaking the seal requires the lifeblood of the last heir of the Red King's lineage."
Serra gasped. The line she had searched for—my blood is required—actually meant my life is required. To free him completely, she had to die.
(THE WORLD COLLAPSES)
Just then, a massive tremor shook the tunnel, knocking them sideways. Dust rained down. It was a huge explosion coming from the surface.
"What's happening?" Serra asked, horrified.
"Vespera!" Dorian shouted, fury contorting his face. "She couldn't find us, so she targeted the main shield wall. She's opening the Pack to the outside world! She'd rather burn the kingdom than let me rule it."
Dorian and Serra stared at each other. Breaking the curse was now secondary. The battle had become an immediate fight for survival.
"We have to go to the surface," Dorian said, moving with renewed Alpha instinct. "Follow me, Luna. The Pack being under attack means the Council’s power is broken. This is much more than a political coup."
They ran toward the exit. The tunnel collapsed behind them with every step. When they burst out into the forest edge, the sight was terrifying. The palace's main shield was crumbling, tearing apart in waves of purple smoke. Pack soldiers were desperately fighting the shadows emerging from the breach.
(KAEL’S LAST STAND)
"They're not just agents," Dorian gasped. "Vespera brought mercenaries."
Just ahead, near the collapse, a massive figure fought with the ferocity of a demon. Kael.
He was surrounded by four armored mercenaries. Blood streamed from his shoulder, but Kael roared, swinging a broken stone pillar, shoving the attackers back to protect the injured guards.
"Dorian!" Kael yelled, spotting them. "The rear flank is collapsing! They are trying to shut down the shield generator!"
"Valeria is inside!" Dorian shouted back, looking toward the burning wing. "Hold the line, Kael! We are coming!"
Dorian hesitated, the primal urge to defend his blood warring with strategic necessity. He moved to rush into the fray.
Serra tightened her grip on his arm. "No! You cannot turn back! Kael is a warrior; he can hold them. But if Vespera takes the Command Center, Kael dies anyway. We must secure the throne first!"
Dorian looked at Kael, then at Serra. He fought the urge, turning his back on his family's peril to follow Serra's cold logic. It was the hardest decision of his life.
(THE NECESSARY LOVE)
As they neared the inner courtyard, they slowed their pace. Here, Marius’s loyalists and Vespera's spies were watching. They needed to project governing authority, not panic.
Dorian took Serra's hand, weaving his bloody fingers through hers. He pulled her flush against his body, hiding his limp, projecting strength.
"We must show them, Luna," Dorian whispered. "The Pack's biggest problem is not the Alpha's weakness, but the Alpha's irresistible dependence on his Luna."
Serra understood. This wasn't merely running. It was a psychological war. Dorian reached for her hand.
"You gave me my life back in that tunnel," Dorian said, his eyes burning with a mixture of gratitude and something deeper. "Now, show me what you will do to save the Pack without breaking the shield."
Serra gripped Dorian’s hand. There was no vengeance left in her heart, only a terrifying, necessary love for Dorian. She realized she would burn the world to keep him alive, even if the cost was her own lifeblood.
"I will show them," Serra vowed. "I will show them that the Red Alpha is not extinct."
Hand in hand, they raced toward the Command Center, charging into the heart of the fire, carrying the fate of the Pack and the dangerous truth of their shared survival.
