Chapter 92

Yzabelle.

My phone rang for the nth time. It must be Kate again. It’s been a week since we came back from that eerie castle. And it was also a week since the last time I attended school.

We had a research paper to present and here I am, lying on my bed, feeling lazy about everything. I wasn’t sure how I became like this, but from that night, I felt like I was lost.

And I missed him. I badly missed him.

I couldn’t feel his presence since then. I didn’t know if Dad had anything to do with him missing in action. But, I didn’t want him to clash with my Dad. Besides, I made my choice. I should keep my part of the bargain.

I should stay away from the lycan prince. Of course, my Dad made sense. Lycans and vampires are from different realms. Surely he didn’t want me to end up being like him and Mom.

But why did I feel like there’s more to that? I just couldn’t figure it out.

I finally answered my phone.

“Kate,”

I heard her release a hard breath. I felt sorry for her. I was certain I put her into a lot of trouble.

“Finally, you answered. Are you feeling well now? It’s been a week since you last came to school. Was your condition serious?” She asked non-stop.

And I could totally understand. She was worried about and must be worried about our presentation. And I shouldn’t be putting her into such a situation. She’d done almost all the work recently.

“Why won’t you let me visit you?” she followed up.

Because I didn’t want you to end up being our dinner.

I wanted to tell her. But I couldn’t.

Of course, I knew my Dad would not hurt anyone that was important to me. Yet, he was still a vampire. I wasn’t sure how long he would ever contain himself from drinking human blood.

Also, now that I knew I was a vampire and I could drink blood without hesitation, I was afraid I might lose myself and end up hurting her. That night we went to my ancestors and drank the King’s blood, my cravings for fresh blood had started. It was controllable, yet, I wasn’t sure if I could still control myself when I was around a lot of people again. I even had the urge to bite our servant’s neck.

That was the main reason why I decided to lock myself in my bedroom. I didn’t want to scare anyone.

“When was our schedule for the presentation? I will make it.” I decided to answer her.

“But are you feeling well already? I can ask the prof to reschedule it. Maybe we can get the final slot.” Kate proposed. Then I heard her sigh again. “I didn’t call you because of the research paper. It was manageable and I can make arrangements for you. You know that, right?” I didn’t answer and just nodded as if she could see me. My eyes started to grow misty. How did I get so lucky to have a friend like her? “I just wanted to check on you. Why wouldn’t you let me come and visit you? I heard from Hailey that you moved into your mansion after kicking her and her Mom out.”

So, the news had spread.

I didn’t anticipate that. Actually, what I anticipated was that Hailey would protect the information about our parents' divorce because, well, Hailey was Hailey. She would love to brag about being Bathory's young lady.

“I am so worried about you. I was certain you aren’t just sick but you have a big problem you need to deal with. Why don’t you tell me? I could or could not help but I was here to listen,” Kate said tenderly.

And I knew she meant it. I was touched. I felt her genuine concern and I couldn’t help myself from sobbing. As much as I wanted to hide it, it was too late. She heard it.

“Oh, babe, stop crying. You are making me more worried. What is wrong? Can I come? I would gladly drive my way to your place.” I heard her.

I quickly gathered myself together and spoke up. It was late at night. I could not risk her coming here. It was better to be safe than sorry.

“No, I am fine. I’ll come to school tomorrow. Maybe we could talk.” I told her to keep her from worrying.

But of course I could not tell her the secret of my family.

“Are you sure you are fine coming to school by tomorrow?” She confirmed.

“Yeah, see you tomorrow.”

“I missed you, girl. Let’s hang out after school, okay?”

“Okay.” I ended the call and threw myself above my bed.

After a few sobs, I forced myself to calm down. I could not stay just like this anymore. I need to get up and collect myself.

I heaved a deep breath and was forced to calm down. I took a glance at my bedroom’s veranda. The night was so bright. It was a full moon.

I was about to step towards it and had a watch of the moon but I saw a shadow moving through my door. Then a familiar scent suddenly invaded my nostrils.

It was him!

Everything was followed by a knock to my window. The bulky shadow of a man covered the glass window. I quickly got up and walked towards it, opened it.

And there, Killian was moving his way inside my bedroom.

“What are you doing here?” I gasped.

“Isn’t it obvious? I’m intruding into your bedroom.”

I would have rolled my eyes if we were in different situations. He was always like that, sarcastic… yet, amusing.

And I missed him.

How I wanted to throw myself towards him. But I held it in. My agreement with my father kept on ringing in my head. Besides, we didn’t have a future together. So, why still invest feelings?

“You are too big to get through my window,” I said instead.

He finally got inside.

“Draco told me he didn’t want to see me walking inside his door, so I used the window. I guess it wasn’t counted as violating his words.”

I could not help but giggle at what he just said. It’d been a while since the last time I laughed. It was his sense of humor that made me feel a lot better.

“So, you came here already? When? Why didn't I smell your scent?”

So, I was right. Dad had something to do with Killian being missing in action.
