Killian.
In the hallway, I glanced at Yzabelle’s apartment unit. Nothing had changed since the last time I broke it. I told the management not to make an improvement for three days, then do it little by little. Make sure to do it as slowly as they could.
And yeah, I was paying them to slack off.
It was for me to keep hold of Yzabelle in my house.
“Geez! I can’t believe they were this slow,” I heard Yzabelle groan beside me. She was looking at her door too. “I should call the maintenance personnel.”
She was about to dial numbers.
“The materials haven’t come yet.” I said as calmly as I could. I couldn’t let her know that I was behind the slow progress.
She frowned at me. “How did you know?”
“I inquired about your unit.”
“Oh, you can’t wait to kick me out. I understand,” Her phone in her ear slowly slipped down.
“No!” I urgently said, my voice high. It was a mistake. I couldn’t hide the fact that I was panicking the moment she took things the wrong way. “That’s nothing like that. I knew you would love to know the progress, that's why I did the inquiry.”
Ugh! I think I sounded defensive.
Yzabelle didn’t say anything and continued to my door. She was encoding her fingerprint when my phone rang.
It was Butler Creek.
What did this old man want from me? I told him not to call me unless it was urgent.
If it was about the shopping spree for Yzabelle’s wardrobe, I think it was taken care of since he notified me through text message this afternoon.
Nonetheless, I answered the call.
“Butler Creek,” I greeted him while signaling Yzabelle to get inside the apartment.
“Master, I forgot to give you something. I should have given you this together with the note.” Butler Creek’s voice was hasty.
What? Must it be very important?
“Alright, meet me in the lobby,” I said at last.
I didn't want him to meet Yzabelle and found out that behind everything, there was a butler who helped me. I wanted to keep my image as a capable man.
Though I was really capable with a lot of heavy work and fighting jobs. It was just that, the human world was different from my world. I needed to maintain my elegant yet capable household image in front of Yzabelle.
I quickly rode the elevator and met Butler Creek. He was sitting at the lobby couch but upon seeing me coming, he quickly got up from his seat. He was holding a small luxurious black box and politely handed it to me with a slight bow.
I frowned while taking the luxury box. Did he call me to give this?
“What is this?” I asked him, holding back my irritation.
The butler showed a confused look on his face.
“I don’t know, Master. You are the one who handed it to me. You said I should give it to you when I came to pick you up in front of Brockton University. You said that was a very important thing. And that I shouldn’t forget about it. That’s why I kept it safe. I kept it that I forgot to give you that day. Please forgive me, Master.” He bowed down while explaining.
If my future self said this is very important, then it must be.
I sighed heavily and turned to Butler Creek.
“You’re forgiven,” I breathed.
“Oh! Thank you for your mercy, Master. I promised to do well next time.”
I nodded at him. “You did good already. Thanks for giving me this.”
The surprise on his face was evident.
“D-Did I heard it right, Master? Y-You complimented me and thanked me?” His eyes seemed to water.
I was confused with what he was thinking so I decided to hear his thoughts.
‘I thought my Master was cold and ungrateful. It’s the first time he thanked me after a decade of serving him. When did he learn it? Was it because of the woman he was keeping in his apartment? I should thank the good Miss for teaching my Master well.’
Teaching me well, huh? What did he think? That I needed to learn something?
“Don’t you dare come near Yzabelle. I don’t want her to get confused,” I hissed.
“M-Master?” The butler was more confused now.
Ugh! How could I forget? I just read his mind, he sure will be confused.
Let’s do it the easiest way.
I snapped my fingers in front of him and he looked into it. Once he was under compulsion,
“Forget it, go straight home and do your thing,” I told him and he just did.
He left the Clinton Tower and I walked back to the elevator. I need to check what’s inside this box. Since Butler Creek said it was important, I can’t gamble on opening it on my way.
I went inside my unit and aimed straight to my bedroom.
“Hey, where have you been? I was about to ask you what you want for dinner.” I heard Yzabelle from the kitchen.
“Anything will do,” I answered and went straight to my bedroom.
I couldn’t wait to find what was inside the box.
***
Yzabelle.
Geez! What’s wrong with him? It’s the first time he ignored me.
Well, technically, he didn’t ignore me. But he spent a little time answering me.
Ugh! What now, Yzabelle? Are you craving his attention?
I felt ridiculous. Why would I crave his attention?
I was not used to him acting like that. He was too focused on the luxury box he was holding as he went straight to his bedroom.
I wondered what that box was all about. Who did he talk to on the phone?
Whoever it was, I bet he was the same person who gave him the box.
Wait? Was it a girl? Did he receive a gift from a girl?
Thinking that way, my heart twisted.
Why would he accept gifts from another girl when he said he wanted to be with me for a long time?
And we were arranged to be engaged! That was cheating!
Thinking that was the probable reason why he was acting strange, I got irritated.
I couldn’t let him cheat on me!
I walked towards his room to confront him. But when I was about to knock, I realized one thing.
We weren’t officially engaged. And wasn't I the one who insisted on breaking it?
So, I didn’t have the liberty to nag at him over a gift he accepted from another girl?
Gosh! What had gotten into me?
It was embarrassing!
And this was crazy! I was getting crazy!
