Yzabelle.
Silence…
I hadn’t hated silence until now.
And it was frustrating that I wanted to cut the silence between us, yet, I didn’t know how.
“Are you hungry?”
I turned to him with an open mouth. I don’t know what to say. But I was glad he finally put an end to the silence between us.
“Let’s dine first before heading home,” he added.
“There’s a fancy restaurant on the underground floor of Clinton Tower. We can dine there if you want,” I finally found my voice.
“Do you like the food there?” He glanced at me for a few seconds and put his attention back to driving.
“Fair enough. The food is good.”
“I don’t want good food.”
I turned to him, confused.
“I want the best food to eat,” he continued. “We will pay for it, better get the best,”
I didn’t argue and just nodded. I should not expect less from him since he is at the top tier of this stupid social status.
“Do you have a place in mind?” He asked again.
I shook my head. He arched an eyebrow.
“I never go out. I mean, I am not a social person. Aside from Kate, I never go out. And Kate usually comes to her parents’ place. Which I think, was none of the options right now,” I explained.
I didn’t even know why I needed to explain.
I saw a concealed smile ripped from his charming lips.
Since when did his lips become this charming?
And what was that smile supposed to mean?
“Good,” he commented shortly.
Good? What was good about that? What did he mean by that word?
And as if he read my mind, he answered my question. Or maybe the question was already written on my face.
“It’s good to know that you are hanging out only with your best friend and not with other guys,” he said, explaining himself.
“And that means?” I frowned.
I didn’t know if he meant well or if it was an insult.
“It means I don’t need to worry that a guy fancies you,” he answered.
The creases in my forehead deepen. “And that means?” I still didn’t get it.
“That means I don’t need to get into trouble getting you back from other guys. Though, I don’t mind getting trouble, either,”
“And that also means?” A part of me was worried, but a big part of me was overjoyed.
And why the hell should I be happy with it? The guy was too possessive and that was kind of creepy!
“Damn! Do I really have to say it?” he suddenly snapped.
He seemed to be thinking I was dumb.
I already knew the answer but my head didn’t want to accept it unless I heard it straight from his lips.
“I want you to be mine. You’re my fiancée so that’s a given thing!” he snarled.
This is the first time I heard a guy confessing himself but in an angry tone.
“That’s not a given thing. We aren’t officially engaged and we agreed to break it even though it wasn’t official yet,” I argued with him.
If I could be honest, I would definitely accept that I was happy to hear his words. But, I did not want to be honest.
“You can’t go against what was fated to you,” he suddenly said.
I frowned. Now he was using the ‘fate card’.
“I don’t believe in fate.” I shrugged. “And I don’t think we are fated to each other. If not for our families, I doubt it if we’ll ever meet.”
He was silent. He seemed to be contemplating what I said.
I took a deep breath when I realized we were already in front of Clinton Tower.
“Stop the car, I will get off.” I said, trying to avoid him.
To my surprise, Killian locked the door beside me. He continued driving to the car park.
“I haven’t parked it, yet. We’ll dine together,” he seemed to explain upon understanding my confusion.
“Where?”
“To the place you mentioned,” his voice was calm as if he did not say something that would stir the air between us.
“I thought you said you wanted the best food?”
He glanced at me. “And I thought you said you like the food there?”
I sighed. He beats me with words.
I mentioned the place since I knew he likes fancy restaurants, though I really liked their food too. That one was fancy and was just below the ground floor.
And I was exhausted. I wanted to rest right after dinner.
“Let’s not argue and have a peaceful meal,” he added.
He seemed tired of arguments too. Well, I was tired of it also.
“Alright, let’s have a truce.” I finally gave him a smile.
For a moment I thought he was stunned. Or it must have been my imagination. Because he quickly glanced away and continued focusing on finding a good parking spot.
And we ended up at the underground restaurant—J's Best.
Well, the food here was great though. Kate loved it here. When she visited me, we used to dine here together and she would always buy a take-home of their signature bread.
“So, what do you want to eat?” he glanced at me while calling for the staff to come to us.
“I think I’ll have grilled beef,” I said even though the staff was still handing me the menu.
“You seemed to know the menu even without looking into it,” he smiled.
And there he went with that bright smile of his.
I thought I would love to see him smiling frequently.
“She’s our regular, Sir, together with her female friend,” the waitress interjected.
“Oh, I guess you should expect me to come here more often,” he turned to the waitress. And I started hating the way the waitress blushed. Until Killian continued. “…with her.”
The waitress was stunned, embarrassed. But she quickly gathered her composure.
“Glad to hear that, sir. I would love to serve the two of you in the future,”
Killian just nodded and started ordering our food. I didn’t order much. Protein and a glass of juice was enough for me.
But I saw Killian frown. “Don’t you like to add some veggies? Fruit for appetizers? That will be good, I think,”
What? Was he some kind of a vegetarian? But I saw him eating the bacon sandwich I prepared for him this morning.
Or maybe, he was just a health freak?
“Uhm, I am not a veggie person so, maybe I’ll get the fruit appetizer,”
Killian seemed to contemplate for a while before turning to the waitress.
“You heard that?”
The waitress nodded.
“Give her the fruit appetizer and a veggie wrap.”
“What?” I turned to him.
“Make it two. The veggie wrap.” Killian added.
The waitress turned to me, looking helpless yet asking for my opinion.
“Fine, give me that also,” I nonchalantly waved my hand.
No worries, he seemed to be waging war against me when we already agreed to a truce. Then, I’d make him eat the veggie wrap.
