Yzabelle.
And I was surprised that my door hadn’t had any improvement aside from it being taped with an ‘under maintenance barricade’. The leaf of my door was leaning at the door frame, maybe to cover the view inside.
Seeing my door, it felt out of place from this luxurious hallway.
I heaved a deep breath, forcing myself to calm down. I dialed the managing department and asked why my door still looked like this. I expected them to work on it overnight.
‘I’m sorry, Ms. Bathory. The materials needed to construct your place haven’t been shipped yet. It’s from overseas so, I deeply regret to tell you it might take time before it gets fixed. In the meantime, can you please move out? We’ll take care of your valuable things. Don’t worry about it.’
Those words weren’t the ones I was expecting from them. I mean, they were one of the high-end tower residential buildings in the city. They must offer me a place to move in, in a situation like this.
It wasn’t as if, it was my fault that the door blew out like that.
Oh, shit!
I almost forgot. After checking the CCTV footage last night, they all think I am doing something inside that causes my door to blow up. They even want me to pay for all the damages and the maintenance needed.
Money was never a question, but, things don’t make sense to me. How was I able to blow my door just like that?
I couldn’t give any evidence that I was not doing anything inside since I didn’t put a CCTV inside.
A long, deep sigh again.
I could only massage my forehead while ending the call.
Figures, I had no choice but to get inside with this horrible door. I needed to get my things and get myself ready for school.
I tried to fit myself into a small gap between the door frame and the door leaf. But it was hard to get in. Plus the panel was too heavy for me to lift. I tried harder until I realized the door leaf was falling… to me!
No!

Killian.
I quickly opened my eyes. In my sleep I felt like something bad was going to happen. I could hear my mate in my head. I can feel she is in sheer fear. It forces me to wake up.
I realized she wasn’t inside my house. I traced her smell. And with my incredible speed, I went to her. Just in time before her door fell on her.
Yzabelle, covering her head, realized that nothing from what she anticipated had happened. Slowly, she checked on the situation and was extremely surprised upon seeing me, blocking the door leaf from falling.
It was a breath away from her when I came. Luckily, I made it in time before she got hurt.
For humans like her, the door leaf will probably feel extra heavy. But I am not a human, so her surprise and confusion was understandable.
“Y-You… how did you—"
“What the hell are you doing?” I snapped, cutting her out. I was still in fear that she might have gotten hurt if I wasn't quick enough to come to her. “You know it’s under maintenance, why would you force yourself in? Are you really trying to get yourself hurt?”
I didn’t know why I was upset. I should not care if she got hurt. I would kill her anyway.
But that’s not what I felt. I just can’t help it. My body reacted out of instinct. It seems I was designed to make sure she was safe. Me, my body, my head and my soul acted by impulse upon realizing she was in danger.
Oh, shit! Did it still have anything to do with the mate bond?
“H-How did you get here that fast?” She was still dumbfounded. She seemed like she was trying to figure out everything in the most logical sense.
I gritted my teeth. “Is that even important? You almost fell through the door! Why are you being so careless? It was too early in the morning to get into trouble?”
Ugh! That didn't make any sense. Was there a proper time of the day to get into trouble?
Yzabelle did not answer. She was still blown away, so I decided to pull the door leaf aside to make a proper space for her to get in.
“Whatever you need in there, get it. Bring it to my place. Uh—no. Let’s just get out of here. I’ll buy you the things you need.”
I was about to pull her out of her doorway when she quickly moved inside.
“I had things here that I needed and you would not be able to buy them with money,” she answered while stepping in.
I frowned. What else was the thing that human money couldn’t buy? Their world was ruled by money, wealth and power. And I had all those.
But I decided not to argue with her. I needed to take her out of the danger zone, as soon as possible.
After a few minutes, Yzabelle came out with her few valuable things together with her pair of clean clothes.
“Is that all you need in there?” I asked, making sure she didn’t miss anything.
I was afraid she would make her way back to her apartment again, get herself hurt and I might not sense it right in time.
Yzabelle nodded, still preoccupied with the situation. It seemed she was just moving and doing things she should have done but her mind wasn’t into it.
“Alright, good. Let’s go,” I told her and took everything in her hand.
I effortlessly put the door leaf back in its position before it fell.
“Don’t you ever come back here without me telling you to do so.”
Yzabelle frowned at me. “Who are you to boss me around?”
It seemed like she was slowly getting back to herself.
“Well…” I gathered myself back. “I am just a concerned neighbor.”
I continued to my doorway and pressed my thumb at the door lock. But I remembered something. I made a few taps and suddenly grabbed Yzabelle’s hand.
She was reluctant and puzzled at first but when she realized what I was about to do, she shot her gaze at me.
“Why are you giving me access to your house?”
I did not mind her surprised and confused look at all. I continued pressing her thumb finger to register it to the lock system.
“Because you are going to live here for a couple of days. How are you going to enter if you don’t have access?”
“What? No! Who said so? I have a place to stay,” she argued but her voice carried a lack of certainty.
She seemed to be figuring things out.
Oh well, judging from the way she lived, the way she simply but elegantly dressed, I knew she came from a well-off family as well. She could afford to get a new place to stay while her apartment was still under maintenance.
But no. I wouldn’t let her get a new place.
She would stay with me, under my watch. And I would do anything to make it happen.
