Laura.
“Believe me, you are the one who mentioned it yet, when I decided to do it, you wanted to turn your back at the very last minute. You said you have bad feelings about it.”
Saskia was silent for a moment.
“I am certain it’s because of what happened to your friend.”
Saskia’s eyes became sad upon hearing that.
“Oh? Did I share it with you also? About Sabrina?”
So, her friend’s name was Sabrina?
“Well, you haven’t, until the time you are backing out and trying to explain to me about your fear that things might not go as planned.”
“Well…”
She heaved a deep breath and decided to stay silent again. She seemed to be thinking so deeply about something.
“Did I also mention to you that I met your future self in the past?”
My lips formed an “O” upon realizing something.
“Come to think of it, why didn't you mention it to me?”
Saskia shrugged her shoulders again. “I don’t know. Only my future self will know about it.”
A moment of silence again.
“But I knew myself very well. There’s the reason behind me not mentioning your plan of going back in time.”
That confused the hell out of me. Now, I had this urge to come back to the future and ask Saskia.
Is it something connected to her worrying about me, going back to the past?
I didn’t know. And I was hella curious!
I was about to ask Saskia something when the sparkling black hole suddenly appeared in front of us.
“Oh, it’s time. You should go,” Saskia said and urged me to get inside the hole. “Quick! You will be trapped here if you don't jump in!”
As I heard her urgent voice, I started to get panicked so I quickly jumped in!
In the blink of an eye, my surroundings changed.
I was thrown back to the couch again but this time, I saw a different Saskia.
She looked like she was on the brink of breaking down.
“What the hell did you do, Laura?!” Saskia cried in despair.
Fear was rising in me seeing Saskia’s condition.
I was certain I was in the present time. And I was expecting a happy and excited Saskia to greet me on my arrival.
But it turned out to be the total contrast.
What must have happened?!
“I didn’t change a lot of things, Saskia. I was just aiming for a better me. What could be wrong?”
“What could be wrong?” Saskia asked back, having this enormous worry and fear. “Yeah, you created a better version of yourself. You just created a new you!”
Saskia was mad, I knew. But I could feel that her anger was a result of her huge fear.
But what was it that she was frightened about?
“I don’t understand.” Curiosity was killing me.
“If you want to understand then, go check it yourself, Laura. Visit your pack, go straight to your parents' house, to your very room. There, you will find the answer.”
I was stunned for a moment but I quickly gathered myself. I ran as fast as I could until I reached my room.
And upon entering, I saw the shock of my life!
“You…”
The woman looked shocked the moment she turned around and saw me.
I seemed to be looking at my own reflection.
“Who are you?” we asked in unison.
“What is this? Why did you look like me? Are you a doppelganger or something?”
I turned to close the door and walked towards her. “I should be asking the same question. Who are you? Why are you in my room?”
“In your room? Hah! Are you crazy? This is my room!”
I was flabbergasted. I felt like my whole world was spinning fast. Seeing my exact appearance, I was feeling dizzy.
Then I remembered Saskia’s worried voice.
‘You just created a new you!’
“No… no, no, no, no!” I cried with a mixture of hesitation, worry and fear.
So, I created a new me and this woman was not me?
“You? Are you Laura also?” I asked the woman again.
“What? I am Sabrina,” she answered with curiosity.
Sabrina?
So, she was a different person.
“How come Mom and Dad will name their child Sabrina when they planned to name it after Mom's grandma?”
“Huh?” Sabrina knotted her forehead.
“Why are you named Sabrina if you are Mom and Dad’s child? Are you sure your parents are David and Lovi?”
“Gosh! Are you some kind of a lunatic who happened to have the same face as mine? Why do you think I am living with them if I am not?”
That stunned me for a couple of minutes.
“No! This is not happening! What is going to happen to me?” I started crying as I slumped on my bed.
Or should I still call it my bed? The woman in front of me had become me.
Different emotions filled me. I was feeling hopeless. I didn’t know what I should do. I started to cry as I covered my face with my bare hands.
“Wait. Miss, by chance, do you happen to be Laura?”
I quickly looked up as I heard her voice.
“Yes, it’s me. How did you know?”
Sabrina’s eyes grew wide with awe. “So, that woman was you!”
“Huh?”
“That woman who visited Mom and Dad and gave the potion for them to conceive me was no other than you. You are the one who told them their child traveled back to the past to help them conceive a baby!”
Sabrina could not help but throw herself towards me. She looked too happy to know about me.
“Gosh! That means what Mom and Dad said was real! They really met a woman who helped them. And I was so lucky to meet you also.”
Sabrina sounded like she could not contain her happiness. I knew and I could feel she was grateful and happy.
She was happy but I am feeling the exact opposite.
How dare this woman show being joyous to someone else's sorrowful moment!
“But why did you say you are their daughter?” she asked again.
“Because I am their daughter! I am supposed to be you…”
Sabrina's eyes switched from being curious to being utterly surprised.
