Chapter 114 The Dance

Chapter 114 The Dance
He pulled me into his arms then. A tight fierce hug that pressed me against his chest. I buried my face in his neck breathing in his scent. Cedar and strength and the faint trace of the cologne I loved so much. Around us other couples continued dancing but I barely noticed them. We stood there wrapped in each other as the world moved on without us.
After a long moment he loosened his hold just enough for us to begin swaying slowly to the music. Our bodies moved together in perfect rhythm even though neither of us had spoken yet. I smiled up at him, my heart so full it felt like it might burst. I leaned in and kissed him again. This time softer. Sweeter. A kiss that said everything words could not. He responded immediately, his arms tightening around my waist as we continued our slow dance in the middle of the crowded ballroom.
Alexander spoke first his voice low and rough with emotion. "I am so sorry my love. I failed to keep you safe. I should have seen what Ben was planning. I should have protected you and our baby better. The guilt has been eating me alive every single day."
I shook my head gently resting my forehead against his. "It is not your fault Alexander. Ben deceived me completely, and you couldn't have known that. He sounded so remorseful on the phone, when he told me he has agreed to the divorce and the lawyer will come to his place. I believed him. I wanted to surprise you with the signed divorce papers, because I know how badly you wanted me not tied to Ben in any way. I went alone because I thought it was the right thing to do. You could not have known. Please do not blame yourself."
He pulled back slightly so he could look into my eyes. His gaze was intense and full of love. "I have missed you so much. Every night without you has been torture. I could not sleep. I could barely eat well. The bond kept me going but it was not enough. I need you in my arms. I need to hold you and know you are really here."
I smiled through tears that threatened to fall. "I have missed you more than words can say. Every moment I was away I reached for you through the bond. Feeling your love kept me strong. I knew you were fighting for us. I knew you would come."
His hands slid down to rest on my waist as we continued swaying to the slow beat. "Soon I will come take you home. The main war is over but there are still remnants to hunt down. Once they are gone I will bring you back where you belong. With me In our home. In our life together."
"I cannot wait," I whispered. "I dream about it every night. Coming home to you. Raising our child together. Building the life we both want."
He smiled and his eyes softened. "You look stunning in this dress by the way. The silver brings out the light in your eyes. You look like a queen. My queen."
I blushed and ran my hands over the lapels of his cream suit. "You look incredibly handsome yourself. This suit fits you perfectly, you should try other colors more often. You look like the powerful alpha you are. I could stare at you all night."
We continued our slow dance exchanging sweet words that healed the days of separation. He told me how he had barely slept since I was taken. How he had torn through every lead searching for me. How the bond had kept him going even when hope felt distant. I told him about my days with the Silver family. How they had welcomed me with open arms. How I was learning about my parents and my heritage. How the baby was growing stronger every day. We spoke of small things too. How he had moved all my things into his room because he could not stand sleeping alone anymore. How he had already started thinking about the nursery and wanted neutral colors so we could decide together later. How he dreamed of lazy mornings with me and the baby once the war was truly over.
The music shifted to another slow song and we kept dancing. Our bodies pressed close. Our hearts are beating in sync. For those precious minutes the rest of the world did not exist. There was only us. Only this moment of reunion in the middle of uncertainty.
"Let us go outside for a moment. I need you alone."
He nodded and let me lead him through the crowd. We slipped out of the ballroom and walked hand in hand along the lighted garden paths. The night air was cool and refreshing. Stars sparkled overhead like diamonds scattered across black velvet. We walked until we reached the lake. The water reflected the moonlight creating a silver mirror that stretched out before us.
Alexander stopped and turned to me. "Why did you bring me all the way here?"
I blushed deeply, feeling heat rise to my cheeks. "Because I want you. The pregnancy has been making me so incredibly horny lately. I need you Alexander. Right now."
He chuckled softly, his eyes darkening with desire. "I am at your service my love. I am sorry I have not been here to satisfy your needs these past days."
I smiled and stepped closer. "You will pleasure me now. And when I finally come home you will make up for all the lost time. Deal?"
"Deal," he said, his voice husky.
