Chapter 13 She saw us
/Nelson/
Last night, I could’ve sworn I felt Edlyn’s presence.
It was faint like a whisper brushing against my senses but unmistakable. Sunny had perked up too, pacing in my head, muttering that she was close. Yet when I checked around, she was nowhere to be found.
And then, before Jackie could even leave, the skies opened.
Calling it rain would’ve been an insult. It was a full-blown storm the kind that roared with the kind of fury that didn’t belong to nature. Lightning cracked so close it rattled the walls, and thunder rolled like the heavens were at war.
In all my years as Supreme Alpha, I’d never seen anything like it.
No one had.
Some of the warriors even thought the Moon Goddess was angry. I wasn’t so sure but whatever it was, I hope everyone is safe.
And ended just before dawn.
I had no choice but to let Jackie stay the night; it was too dangerous to leave. But when she tried to come into my room all perfume and entitlement I stopped her.
Not just stopped her. I used my Alpha tone.
The look on her face was priceless.
She stormed off, of course, muttering something about me being “heartless.”
Maybe I was. But she’d already crossed enough lines. forcing a kiss on me was already enough and the good thing was, Edlyn didn't see it. Her kissing me made Sunny so mad...
This morning, I barely slept. Sunny was restless, pacing and growling for me to check on Edlyn. So I did.
I went straight to her room and knocked once, twice, three times.
No answer.
I could sense her inside, but her energy was… dim. Like she’d been crying. Or maybe I was imagining it. I almost kicked the door down, but stopped myself. I didn’t want to scare her. So I walked away and told myself I’d wait.
Now, sitting at the breakfast table, I kept glancing toward the hallway like a fool waiting for something I couldn’t name.
And then she appeared.
Edlyn walked in quietly, her dark hair pulled back, her face pale but set in that stubborn, composed expression that drove me insane. She didn’t even glance at me. Not once. Just walked past like I was invisible.
Sunny huffed in my head. She’s angry. we did something.
“Yeah,” I muttered under my breath, “I can feel that.” Did she perhaps saw us being kissed last night...?
I tried to stand, maybe say something, but before I could, Jackie of course appeared out of nowhere like a bad omen.
Perfectly dressed, overly sweet smile plastered on her face, she sauntered over and placed a hand on my shoulder like she owned the damn place.
“Good morning, Supreme Alpha,” she purred, too loud, eyes darting toward Edlyn. “And who do we have here?”
Timi and Felix gave me a look that says while the fuck was she still here... On the other hand Edlyn didn’t even flinch. She bowed slightly too respectfully, too controlled and every part of my body hated that she just bowed for her.
“Good morning, ma’am,” she said evenly. “I’m Edlyn. Thank you for allowing me to stay.”
What the fuck...? allowing you to stay, she not the luna for heaven sake.. Jackie’s smile stretched thin, fake as silk. “Ah, so you’re the little omega everyone’s whispering about.” She leaned closer, pretending to whisper. “Welcome to our pack, dear. I do hope you enjoy your time serving here.”
That word serving made my jaw tighten. The fact that am still sitting quietly tolerating all this, is what i dont even understand.
Edlyn lifted her gaze slowly then, meeting Jackie’s eyes with a look so calm it was almost frightening.
“Thank you for the warm welcome,” she said softly, voice polite but edged. “I’ll do my best not to be a disappointment.”
Sunny laughed inside me. That’s our firecracker.
Ohhh... so Sunny kept me in control because he wanted to see what she will do.
Jackie blinked, clearly thrown off by Edlyn’s tone. She glanced at me for backup, but I just stared at her. I wasn’t about to save her from the mess she’d just stepped into.
“Edlyn,” I said finally, trying to keep my voice steady, “come sit. Eat something.”
She hesitated, then walked toward the far end of the table the opposite side from me and sat down without a word.
Jackie immediately slid into the chair next to me, overly close. The scent of her perfume hit me like a slap, and I fought the urge to move.
The contrast was unbearable Jackie, fake and loud beside me, and Edlyn, quiet but somehow filling the whole damn room with her presence.
The air was thick.
I could feel her anger. Her disappointment.
And maybe, if I was honest, her pain.
I didn’t understand it, not yet, but I knew one thing for certain this wasn’t over.
Not even close.
Sunny growled low in my chest, his voice deep and sure.
You’d better fix this, Nelson. Before we lose her even before finding out she’s ours.
I was still trying to process the tension that had settled over the breakfast table when I felt the tug of a mindlink snap open.... Felix and right on its heels, Timi.
Perfect. Just what I needed.
Felix: “Did you fuck Jackie last night?”
Timi: “Wait... are you guys back together?”
They both spoke at the same damn time, their voices overlapping in my head so loud that I almost choked on my food.
Across the table, Jackie was still talking about something useless probably about how she’d “gracefully handled” the storm last night while Edlyn sat quietly, eyes down, eating like she wanted to disappear.
And just to make things worse, Jasmine looked up from where she sat beside Felix, giving me that slow, curious look that said she’d heard enough through the link to know exactly what was being asked.
I rubbed a hand over my face and muttered under my breath, “Are you two serious right now?”
Felix: “Don’t ‘serious’ us, man. You look guilty as hell.”
Timi: “Exactly. You let her spend the night here, bro. What were we supposed to think?"
I didn’t sleep with her, I snapped through the link, trying to keep my face neutral so Jackie and Edlyn wouldn’t notice the silent argument happening right under their nose.
Felix: “So she just what.. Slept in your bed, fully clothed, with angels singing in the background?”
Timi: “Yeah, right. Tell that to someone who hasn’t seen Jackie stalk you for years.”
She didn’t even touch the damn bed! I barked mentally. She tried to come in, I kicked her out. Literally. Used the Alpha tone.
That shut them up for about three seconds before Felix’s voice came back, dripping with sarcasm.
Felix: “Wow. You’re growing up, man. Using your Alpha tone instead of your tongue.”
I glared down the table at him, but outwardly, I kept my face calm or tried to.
Jasmine, bless her nosy heart, finally spoke aloud. “So... are you going to tell us what really happened last night, or should I just assume the storm was your fault?”
I coughed into my cup. “I didn’t cause the storm. While are you guys sounding like am some god of thunder or something...?"
Timi: “You sure? Because it started right after Jackie kissed you.”
I froze mid-sip.
How the hell did you...
Felix: “Dude, we saw it through the kitchen last night we never left. You might want to take it upstairs next time.”
Sunny groaned in my head, tail flicking in irritation.
They’re idiots. Ignore them. Focus on her.
I didn’t need to ask who her was.
My gaze slid, unwillingly, toward Edlyn again.
She was sitting quietly, pretending to be focused on her plate, but her shoulders were stiff, her fork untouched. Her energy was steady but distant he kind of distance that made my wolf restless.
She saw us, Sunny murmured. She saw the kiss.
My stomach tightened. If she did, then the storm made perfect sense.
“Supreme Alpha?” Jackie’s sugary voice yanked me back to the room. She leaned closer, flashing that practiced smile. “I was just telling your Beta about hosting the elder’s meeting here next week. Since, you know, it’s our pack.”
Felix’s mental voice broke in immediately.
Felix: “Did she just say our pack?”
Timi: “I heard it too. Bro, you better shut that down before she starts naming the pups she doesn’t have.”
I took a slow breath, pressing my tongue against my teeth to keep from saying something I’d regret.
Out loud, I said evenly, “Jackie, this is my pack. Don’t forget it.”
The silence that followed was thick.
Jackie blinked, smile faltering just enough for satisfaction to spark in my chest.
Jasmine tried to cover her laugh with a fake cough, and Felix leaned back in his chair with that devilish grin that said he was enjoying this far too much.
Timi: “So just to be clear... you didn’t fuck her?”
Felix: “Because that storm sure looked like guilt from up here.”
For the last time, I ground out through the link, no one got fucked. Now shut up before I throw you both out of the mindlink.
They both went silent for a beat before Felix whispered,
Felix: “Fine, but how do you intend handling the omega.”
