Chapter 45 Cue and the Psycho Doctor pt 1
Chapter 45 Cue and the Psycho Doctor pt 1
“What the fuck is he doing?” Trigger screamed, reaching for a gun at her hip that just wasn’t there.
“It’s evolution, you ignorant woman!” The Doctor cackled. “Look, I can remove anything from him, and he lives! Isn’t that fascinating?”
The doctor turned around with a rotten heart in his hand, his own face so burned and scarred it looked like minced meat under his mask.
Cue wretched where she stood, covering her new shoes with the contents of her stomach.
“Women…” the doctor snarled, disgust in every syllable. “What a waste of time.”
Hunter exchanged a look with Trigger and shrugged. No wonder women were safe here; it’s the dead that were in danger.
“God help us if you ever get your hands on a Cretin,” Trigger said with disgust, backing towards the door.
“Oh, that’s what my brother is doing. Impregnating the family Cretin in hopes of birthing the next evolutionary phase, but he is an idiot. It isn’t in their reproduction; it is in their very DNA. And as he so unfortunately will never realize, no matter how much he fucks her, she will only give off the dead or the mutants. There is no other choice.”
Leaning on a wall, Cue looked at Trigger with terror in her eyes.
“Your brother, in the sewers?” Trigger asked slowly, not letting go of the eye contact with Cue as she moved protectively in front of her.
The doctor froze mid-organ-harvesting and turned to face them so slowly it was as if everything else was moving too fast. “You met my brother, and yet you are here?” he said quietly, picking up a scalpel from a nearby table. “How is that possible?”
He flicked furious eyes on Hunter and stepped closer.
“My brother hoards females like he hoards food, and you mean to tell me you met him and escaped?”
“His Cretin died, the zombies and mutants turned on him the moment her control ceased,” Trigger said honestly, though she kept the fact that they had killed her to herself. “We barely escaped with our lives.”
Trigger was suddenly very nervous after she had just told Hunter about the Cretin following them. Would he go out and hunt him now? Bring him in to be experimented on like this? She would never defend a Cretin, but she would never wish a fate like this on anyone, dead or alive.
“I would assume so,” he said coldly, and then, slowly, he began to laugh. “I told him it was foolish! I told him we could never succeed. Our family has been trying with her for hundreds of years! Why would it change now? The answer is in the zombies… I know it.”
He turned and started carving skin off the zombie's skull.
“Hand me that saw,” he said to Hunter, who did so cautiously and confusedly. “Take the pregnant one to my nurses. I’m sure that’s what she’s here for anyway.”
“But Victor, they—”
Trigger could see the words on his mouth as he intended to tell the doctor about the Cretin, but Victor interrupted him.
“I don't care if they killed that idiot themselves! His horde was growing too powerful as it is, and that poor woman needed to be put down. Now, leave me to my work, or you will be on the table next! I’m so close to the next advancement in my research, I’ll soon be able to resume human testing!”
Hunter hurried them out of the room as the doctor started ranting about evolution and power, and even with the door closed behind him, they could hear his mad machinations.
“What the fuck is going on here?” Trigger asked.
“I run the outside,” Hunter said, shaken, “The doc runs the inside. That’s all I know.”
“And you just let this happen?” Cue asked, still struggling with dry heaves.
“I run the outside—” he repeated.
“And he runs inside.” Trigger finished. “You are about as worthless as rat feces.”
He gave her a murderous glare, but looked down at her belly and rethought his approach. “Regardless of the Doctor, you guys have been approved to stay. The nurses are this way.”
He walked away without another word, leading them back out of the corridors and the wounded rooms and back to the stark white entrance way.
“What do you think they’d do if they caught the one following us?” Cue whispered. “He hasn’t tried to hurt us; if anything, he’s kept us safe with the presence of his horde keeping others away.”
“I don’t know, Cue, but I regret telling Hunter. If what Victor is doing to the zombies is any indication of what he’s capable of, no one is safe.”
They followed Hunter back to the entrance, and there, waiting for them, was a group of female nurses, all gloved up and waiting. He left them with the nurses and left the building immediately.
“Hi there!” the nurse in front said brightly. “I’m Nurse Mary, this is Betty, and this is Sue. We’re here to check on baby and momma and make sure all is well!” Her voice was so calm, it was as if outside the hospital doors wasn’t a post-apocalyptic hell.
“Hi?” Trigger said, more of a question than a greeting.
“Lets get you all ready and see that baby!” Mary said! Putting her hands on Trigger’s shoulders and turning her around to walk her down the aisle.
“What do you mean, see my baby?” Trigger squawked, slapping the nurse’s hands off of her and reaching for Cue instinctively.
Cue moved in front of her, hands shaped like claws just in case she had to use her nails as weapons against these bitches.
“Oh, I forgot!” The nurse slapped her head. “You have probably never seen electricity before, much less the things it can do! Come, come, I will show you all while the baby is still tucked away inside.”
Trigger laid murderous eyes on all the nurses as they tried to lead her again physically, and they drew their hands back with saccharine smiles. They turned and led the way instead, with Sue bringing up the rear.
They all looked the same, all in blue clothes and hats. Only Mary didn’t have her mask on; she let it dangle from one ear and bob along as she walked, with a skip in her step. Mary led them in a different direction from the injured and up a few flights of stairs to a level that was in all pinks and purples.
“This is our labor and delivery ward! It’s been so long since we had a mommy in here!” Mary said brighter than brightly.
Cue looked at her suspiciously. She said nothing about having babies in here…
“Come this way!” Mary left them in a small room with a bunch of medical equipment everywhere, as well as large water-filled tubes against the wall.
Cue shied away from the tubes carefully, getting the creeps from them.
“Hop up on the bed, dear,” Mary requested, holding out her hand to help.
Trigger ignored it, getting on the bed without her help just fine.
“If you lie back, we can get a look at the baby using this,” she said, holding up a plastic wand with a long curly cord connected to it.
