Chapter 58 Damon Joins The Crew

Chapter 58 Damon Joins The Crew
The Fifth Element 🔥🌪️🌊⛰️🌀

JAKE’S POV🔥

I was sure our plans would work. We were going to save Cassie. I was sure of it.

When I told Greg and Nick, they liked the idea right away. To them it sounded like an adventure. I reminded them of the risks, but they didn’t care. They just wanted to be a part of it.

Both of them have been my friends from the Fire Clan since we were kids, so I trust them. Especially Nick. People always misunderstand him because he’s quiet, but I get him.

Greg’s full of himself, but he shows up when it matters. That’s why you can rely on him.

The day dragged. The sun refused to set, like it knew what we were planning.

I gathered every supply we’d need for the road. I didn’t want anyone slowing down before we found Cassie.

🔥

When night finally fell, I rushed to the abandoned building to wait. On the way I checked in on Cara. She said she’d meet me there.

The meeting time had come. I’d arrived early on purpose, to run through the plan one more time before anyone showed up.

Phoebe was first to show up.
She waved and slid into the seat beside me. “Hey, Jake.”
“Glad you made it,” I said.
“Yeah. Even though this is reckless and not something I’d normally do, I’m glad I’m here,” she said. “The last time we all hung out like this, we were kids. Everything was easier then.”

She was right. I’d almost forgotten we used to be close—all of us, children of the Elementals. Phoebe was Mr. Winchester’s daughter.
“Yeah,” I said. “Feels like ages ago.”

“Why did we drift apart?” she asked. “We all suddenly started to act like we didn’t know each other. Like we didn’t exist to each other.”
“I don’t know, Phoebe,” I said. “I guess life happened. It changed us all.”

I didn’t want to talk about the past. Not now.
“Guess so,” she said, and fell quiet.

“Someone’s coming,” she said suddenly. “Two people.”
“You can hear them from here?” I asked. She nodded.

Seconds later the door opened.
“Hello! Anyone home?” Madeleine called out. “Please tell me I’m not the first one here.”
“Over here!” I yelled.

“Oh, hi Jake. Phoebe,” Madeleine said when she saw us. The girl beside her waved.
“Okay, guys, this is my friend Gia, the one I told you about,” Madeleine explained. “She’s really good at tracking people. She found Cassie once before, and she’s agreed to help us.”
“It’s really nice of you to join us, Gia. Thank you,” I said.
“Sure,” Gia said. “I’m glad I can help find her.”

“I hear more people coming,” Phoebe said.

The door opened again. Cara, Greg, and Nick walked in.
“Whoa,” Greg said, grinning. “Lots of ladies here. This trip’s gonna be great!”
Cara scoffed.

“Hey, guys. Glad you made it,” I said. “Thanks for showing up. It means a lot. Hey, Cara.”
I shook hands with Greg and Nick.
Cara rolled her eyes and sat down with Phoebe.

“Now we’re just waiting on Sage,” Madeleine said, moving to sit in the corner with Gia, far from Cara.

I knew they didn’t get along like they used to. I just hoped it wouldn’t mess up the plan tonight.

We waited a few more minutes before Phoebe announced Sage was at the door. But she frowned. “There are two sets of footsteps.”

Sage wasn’t alone.
I tensed.

Then she walked in and she’d brought Damon with her.

“What the hell?” Cara said.
“You told your brother?” Madeleine asked, disbelief in her voice.
“Yeah,” Sage said, face blank. She looked me straight in the eye. “And he’s agreed to help.”

“No,” I said.
“What do you mean, no?” she asked.
“I mean no,” I said. “He’s not part of this. He’s not coming with us.”

Damon scoffed and smirked.
“What makes you think you can stop me?” he said. “I’ve made up my mind, Jake. I’m coming. And this is about saving Cassie, right? It’s not about you.”
He pulled up a chair and sat down.

I looked at Cara and Phoebe. They shrugged.
“It’s just like you said,” Sage said, raising an eyebrow. “All the help we can get.”

I shook my head. I couldn’t believe I was about to agree.
“Fine,” I said, glaring at Damon. “I guess even his help counts.”
He smirked.

“Alright,” I said. “We’re all here. First, we get through the Gates without alerting anyone. We need to be discreet enough. I brought clothes for everyone—all black. If we go out in our uniforms, they’ll know who we are. So, Get changed.”
I handed out the black clothes to everyone.

“What about mine?” Damon asked, confused.
Now it was my turn to smirk.
“There isn’t one for you,” I said. “You’re a tag-along. You weren’t in the plan.”

“I guess you’ll be the first one they catch,” Greg said. “Tough luck, water boy.”
He laughed, and a few others chuckled.

“Yeah, whatever,” Damon said. “I don’t need the disguise. I’ve got my black leather jacket.”
I knew he cared. I just chuckled.

“Everyone go change,” I said. “Girls, use the other room. Boys, we’ll change here.”
They all nodded and moved.
