Chapter 11 Sage

Chapter 11 Sage

THE FIFTH ELEMENT 🌊🔥🌪️⛰️☯️

~Cassie’s POV ~

“I’m so, so sorry about that. I wasn’t looking where I was going,” I apologized quickly.

I finally got a look at the girl. Raven black hair, pale skin, eyes so blue they looked almost unnatural.

And she was in a blue uniform, so I’m guessing water element, but hers was different somehow. Black trim ran down the sleeves and hem, sharp against the blue.

Her nails were painted all black, and she had a nose piercing and an eyebrow piercing.
She was wearing fishnets with her skirt.

She was gorgeous. And she looked totally badass.

“You’re sorry? Well, I guess I’m sorry too,” she said calmly.

I got confused.

“What are you sorry for?” I asked her.
I ran into her, so she shouldn’t be sorry. I should.

“For this.” She snatched a tray of food from an innocent bypasser and emptied the contents on my head.

I groaned in disgust as cold pudding mixed with spaghetti and red sauce trickled down my face, into my hair, down my neck.

“What is your problem?! I already apologized for spilling a little bit of food on your clothes, why would you do this to me?” I was enraged.

I honestly thought for a second that I wanted to be friends with her. I guess not. Not anymore. She must be one of those bullies you see in school.

“No hard feelings. Besides, I apologized to you as well, so I guess we’re even,” she said calmly and walked away from me, deliberately knocking my shoulder as she passed.

I gasped, indignation flaring hot in my chest, and turned to look at her. One word screamed in my mind. TRIP.

And suddenly she fell. Hard. Her empty tray clattering across the cafeteria floor. She was up just as quickly, brushing herself off, eyes darting around. She stared at her tray on the floor, shook her head like she couldn’t figure out what just happened, and abandoned it.

I turned back and continued toward Madeline’s lunch table, sauce dripping down my cheek.

But of course everyone was staring at me now.
I forgot I was drenched in sauce.

I walked with my head down toward Madeline, heat crawling up my neck.

I couldn’t stand the stares I was getting.

“Oh my god, Cassie, what was that all about? And look at you — you’re all filthy now. Why didn’t you watch where you were going in the first place?” Madeline said the second I sat down.

“Yeah, Cassie. This is no school to be clumsy. You should really watch your step. And to say that you spilled food on Sage of all people, that is just terrible,” Stacy added.

“Wait, are you guys really taking that girl’s side? She literally dumped food on me. Intentionally! After I apologized,” I tried to reason with them.

“Well, to be fair, you did spill food on her first. So… it’s kinda your fault,” David chimed in.

“Seriously?! It was an accident. I made a mistake, but she… she dumped food on me knowingly_!” I said.

David scratched his head while Stacy and Madeline couldn’t look me in the eye.

I turned to Richie and Monique.

“Come on, guys, you can’t be serious,” I said.

“If I’m to be honest, what Sage did wasn’t right. You made a mistake and no one is above mistakes. And besides, you apologized to her. I mean, I like Sage and all, but I’m not biased enough to ignore that she was a bitch just now,” Richie said.

“Yeah, Richie’s right. That was just wrong, embarrassing you like that,” Monique added.

“Thank you! Both of you. It’s nice to know I have two reasonable people I can count on in this alien school,” I said to them and shot the rest of the table a mean look.

“Oh, come on. We’re also your friends. It’s just that this is Sage we’re talking about here. I did tell you to stay away from her the other day, didn’t I?” Stacy said.

“Wait, Sage? Like Damon’s sister slash Richie’s secret crush Sage?” I asked to confirm.

“Aw, so you were paying attention after all,” Stacy said and gave me a grin.

“Of course. I’m a good listener,” I replied.

“Duly noted,” Stacy said and gave me a wink.

How does a wink relate to what we were talking about…

“Okay, okay, okay. I’ve heard enough Sage talk. That’s two days in a row now. Come on, Cassie, let’s go get you cleaned up. You still have an appointment to attend,” Madeline said and stood up from her chair.

“Joy killer!” Stacy hollered at her, and everyone started laughing at Madeline.

“Haha, very funny,” Madeline said, sounding unimpressed.

I shook my head at Stacy and made my way out of the cafeteria with Madeline, the whole school staring.

⛰️

When we got back to our dorm, I quickly took another shower. My hair reeked of spaghetti and sauce thanks to that sociopath Sage.

I changed into clean clothes, and then Madeline and I made our way to her mom’s office.

After walking for some time, we finally got there.

Madeline opened the door and both of us went inside.

Her mom was already there, sitting behind her desk. A stack of folders, a crystal paperweight, and a steaming mug. Seems like she was waiting for us.

“Child. It’s nice to see you again,” her mom said as soon as we came close.

“Thanks,” I replied.

“I hope you’re not finding anything difficult around here. And I hope my daughter has shown you around the school a little bit,” her mom asked.

“Yes. Everything’s great. And Madeline is the best school tour guide ever,” I said and glanced at Madeline for a second. She smiled at me.

“I’m glad about that. Um, Madeline, could you excuse us for some time? I’ll call you back in when we’re done speaking,” her mom dismissed Madeline.

Madeline left the office, leaving just me and her mother. The door clicked shut behind her.

“I believe you have a lot of questions for me. Let’s hear them.”

“Yeah. Just a few simple questions. How do I have these powers? And why do I have them?
And who the hell are my real parents? And where are they?” I asked her, and she pursed her lips, thinking.
