Chapter 70
Chapter 70
Talia PoV
Silas isn’t someone anyone should mess with, but my father doesn’t realise that. He doesn’t know who he is, but I do. I know exactly who he is, and I don’t believe he will lose this fight. Even with the odds stacked against us.
My father thinks he can win because he brought warriors, but warriors mean nothing when you are facing a literal beast. No one stands a chance against the rogue Alpha. Not even Alpha winters, feared amongst all northern packs.
Alpha Tristan was afraid of what Silas would do to his pack, and his men are ruthlessly trained. He knew what he was facing and he was rightfully nervous. My father doesn’t have a clue who he just made an enemy of.
“Take him down.” I whisper to Silas, my heart racing in apprehension.
He turns back to look at me, his wives eyes a blood red, and in that one single look, I know that he will protect me. No matter the cost to himself.
I think I’m falling in love with him, not because he’s strong, and not because he will kill for me. I’m falling in love with him because he cares without strings attached. He likes me for who I am, not what I can give him.
He said the moon goddess gave us to each other, she told him that I would need him to help me with what was coming, and I believe him. He has no reason to lie. No reason to deceive me. I believe he is telling the truth because I want to believe it.
I can tell that he cares, it’s easy to see in both his words and his actions. Tristan is much harder to read, and I’m not sure he cares at all. But I want him to.
I want to be selfish and have them both, but I know that might not be possible forever.
Silas howls loudly, making me cover my ears, it hurts, but I don’t flinch. I don’t cower.
I know that he will never hurt me.
But he will hurt my father, my tormentor. The man who tortured me for years just because I was born a girl.
“Kill him!” My father shouts, but I can see the nervous glint in his eyes.
He isn’t sure which way this fight will go, but I do, I know that Silas will win, because he is fighting for love.
He is fighting for freedom, my freedom.
The wolves my father brought all shift, ready to fight, but Silas doesn’t give them a chance to come for him, he attacks first. He clamps his jaw down on the front leg of the nearest wolf, and the wolf howls in pain, trying to pull free but only managing to make it worse for himself.
Silas twists his head so fast I almost miss it, and the bone snaps, the broken bone almost completely ripped off.
It makes me want to puke, but I hide my disgust. He’s doing this for me, I shouldn’t question how he does it.
My fathers face grows more and more furious with each man sikas takes down, but the more that fall, the more that come from their hiding places in the trees. It seems like it will never end. But I want it to; I want my father to die.
Is that wrong of me? I don’t just want him to die, I want him to suffer the way that I have suffered. I want him to know pain and fear and helplessness.
I want him to know what it feels like to be so broken down by the word you aren’t even sure you want to go on. But I can’t have everything, and his death will be more than enough to give me closure.
Silas howls again before lunging at another wolf, the younger wolf dodges the first two, but the third time that the black wolves jaw snaps, it catches the young wolf in the side, and Silas doesn’t hesitate to rip out a chunk of skin.
Blood is everywhere, so much blood. I’ve never seen this much of it in one place, and I’m not sure I ever want to again.
I’ve seen people fight, but never like this. Never to this amount or scale. It’s horrible. But I know that it needs to be done.
“Grab my daughter.” My father shouts, pointing at me.
I look around, my heart sinking into the bottom of my stomach, whisky I was watching Silas, my fathers men were slowly surrounding me, cutting me off from help, and now there are so many I can’t even count them.
I begin to shake, not sure what I should do, but knowing I can’t just stand here and let them take me.
I shift into my wolf, fast and effortless. The men look shocked, they didn’t expect me to be so large, or so vicious. But I will fight for my freedom, and I will kill for it too.
I need to, if you want to survive in this world, you have to make an effort to learn how to defend yourself, and that is exactly what I have done.
“Come quietly girl and we won’t have to hurt you.” One of the men say, his green eyes cold.
I don’t believe him, if I don’t fight, I will get hurt. I may even die. And I’m not going to go down like a coward.
I’d much rather show them that I’m not the same scared little girl who left all those months ago. I’m different now, I’m stronger.
I’m prepared to do whatever is takes to protect myself and Aria.
One of the men shift, his wolf is smaller than mine, but he’s very fast, almost too fast. But somehow, I manage to keep up. He tries to bite me several times in the back legs, enough to take me down, but not kill me.
I won’t show him the same mercy.
I growl and snap my teeth, my wolf taking over, she knows exactly what to do, and I trust her to keep us safe.
The wolf lunges again, but I’m ready, I tackle him to the ground and use all my weight to pin him. He fights and rolls and tries to throw me off, but I do not move.
I sink my teeth into his chest, pulling out large chunks of flesh and spitting them out, eventually I reach his ribcage and he goes still. Deathly still.
When I look up, he’s dead.
I’ve killed him. Not my first kill, but the messiest.
And the fight isn’t over, not by a long shot.
