Chapter 62

Chapter 62
Silas pov

What is this new feeling? It seems a lot like guilt.

I had to go for a walk before I tore out the alphas throat.

I didn’t mean to make Talia cry, I had no idea that fighting with Tristan would affect her like that.

I hope she’ll forgive me. I want her to.

I want her to look at me with those soft eyes again, now more than ever.

Zade took her to see her little sister, it’s a good distraction but Talia needs help, real help. She needs some sort of therapy. And I’m going to get the best doctor that money can buy for her. I’ve made up my mind, and no one will stop me, not even the uptight alpha I have to share her with.

He wanted her to reject me, and he couldn’t handle it when she didn’t.

I don’t mind sharing; it happens a lot these days with the decline in women. Talia doesn’t know this, but where I’m from, women are few and far between. All men think they need sons to continue their family line, and a lot of female babies have been killed over the years. Too many.

It’s caused a massive problem, and now people are scrambling to try and fix it. But the damage has been done and it’ll take around 10 years of multiple births to get back to how things were.

It’s different here, there are more women. Not by a landslide, but still more.

I barge into Tristan’s office, holding my breath for a second when I see James, his beta and him arguing with each other.

“You can’t let him near the girl! He’s dangerous.” James was shouting now, his face red. “I’ve looked after that child for months, I’ve seen the damage caused to her, you haven’t.”

“It’s Talia’s choice James.” Tristan shouts his voice even louder than his brothers.

“What’s going on here?” I ask, my voice eerie calm.

They clearly don’t agree with something, and I have a feeling it has something to do with the brother and the kid sister.

“This has nothing to do with you, rogue.” James growls, shooing me away.

I’d break his jaw if it wouldn’t upset my mate.

“Be careful who you think you are talking to, beta wolf.” I growl back. The full force of my Alpha aura slipping out.

James backs down instantly, his head lowered and his neck bared to me.

Tristan watches us with curious eyes, “that’s only supposed to work when you are an Alpha of a pack.”

“It’s always worked for me.” I shrug. “Now, why are you arguing here? Talia could be back any second.”

James and Tristan exchange a look.

“My brother doesn’t trust Zade.” Tristan explains, and I’m glad. I didn’t want to have to force the information out of them. “He thinks he’ll hurt them both. Especially Aria because she’s just a child.”

“Unfortunately, James, it is not your decision to make.” I say coldly, stepping further into the room. “That choice belongs to Talia and Talia alone, she is responsible for the child, not you.”

“Aria would have been mine if you’d have taken her away like you were supposed to.” James snaps, his voice full of fury.

I growl, and his eyes widen when he sees the look on my face.

“The girl is not yours.” I say, my voice harder now. “She’ll never be yours.”

I jump and turn when I hear footsteps, Talia stood in the doorway with Zade not far behind her. She looks absolutely broken, and I’d place money on the fact that she heard everything.

“Aria is outside playing.” Talia said, walking into the room with Zade behind her. “She will not be returning to your house James, she can stay in the room we prepared here.”

James’ eyes go wide. “Talia, don’t take what I said the wrong way, I was just angry.”

“You wanted me gone so you could take my sister.” Talia says her voice so cold I couldn’t help but be proud of her. “You will never have her. You have your own child on the way, concentrate on that.”

James’ shoulders shake as he tries to calm down his breathing, he wants to argue, but he also knows that Zade and I won’t take his shit when it comes to Talia.

“I’m going to go check on my mate.” He says softly, heading for the door.

“One more thing.” Talia says, stopping him from leaving with her body. “If you have a problem with the way I parent Aria then say it to my face, don’t become my enemy James, you won’t like the outcome.”

Fuck, I’m so proud of her.

James’ face turns purple with rage, but he says nothing, he only nods and scoots around her.

“Good girl.” I coo, stepping closer to her and brushing the hair from her face. “You handled that perfectly.”

I’ve never been more proud of anyone in my entire life, she did so fucking well. I couldn’t have handled it better myself.

“Thank you for defending me.” She whispered, standing on her tiptoes to kiss my cheek.

My wolf growls, he wants more. But now is not the time.

“I will always defen you.” I turn the Tristan. “You need to get your brother back in line, if he says one more thing about my mate, then I will break his neck.”

Tristan nods, but his eyes skim over Talia in sadness and jealousy. “How did it go with Aria?”

Talia walks into the room fully, closing the door. “She loved Zade. I think they’re going to get along perfectly.”

Tristan nods again, “that’s good news.”

“You don’t seem so sure, do you have the same opinion as your brother?” Zade asks, his voice dangerously low. “Because I have no problem starting a war to protect my little sisters.”

Oh. I didn’t expect that. Good on him.

He’s thinking of his family, and what he needs to do to keep them safe. I’d do the same thing for them.

“It’s not like that.” Tristan argues, “I have a right to be cautious, Talia is my mate.”

“You’re right, she is your mate.” Zade agrees, his voice like ice. “But that doesn’t mean you can talk about his decisions behind her back.”

I like this guy, and I can tell that Talia does too.

But only time will tell if he can be trusted, I won’t say it out loud. But I’ll be keeping my eye on him.

He won’t get anything past me.
