Chapter 89 Rags and Ritches 30

Chapter 89 Rags and Ritches 30

“Any news?” It was the same question I asked every evening as well as the first thing I asked every morning. But I knew before they even answered that the answer was going to be the same as always.

“Nothing, boss.” The man standing in front of me said with a sigh.

Steepling my hands under my chin, I sucked in a deep breath. “The lead?” I queried. Two nights ago we had got wind of a woman who fit Arias description in Prague. I’d sent men straight away but by the look on his face it was another wild goose chase.

In the three months since I had married my wife and forced her to do my dirty work for me, there had been no word from her. And no sighting either.

It was like he had disappeared into thin air.

“You have her passport boss, do you really think-“

I cut him off with a flash of my eyes. “If you think she doesn’t have the contacts to get fake documents you are underestimating her.”

Of course I had been the first one to do that. But I wasn’t going to make the same mistake twice. And I would find her. I had to. My bed felt empty with her, my days bare now I couldn’t check the cameras and see her scheming and plotting.

Hell my whole life felt empty.

It was amazing how one person could fill your life so much to the point that you didn’t realise until they left you.

“Start chasing the counterfeiters again. The best in the business. She wouldn’t go to just anyone. It would have to be someone she trusted.”

“Boss, we have done that twice already.”

Lifting my head I stared at him. “Are you questioning me?” My voice was low and even. But the threat in it was clear.

He quickly averted his eyes. “No of course now. I’ll see it’s done.”

Sighing I settled back in the chair, closing my eyes. This, being in charge was all I had ever dreamt about. My entire life I had wanted the power a bastard son could never have. So I had taken it. I’d gained the respect of all the men here, I was feared.

And I fucking missed my wife.

My days were filled with thoughts of her, my dreams were only of her. I woke up in a sweat , with her name on my lips.

I had everything I had ever wanted and it tasted like ash in my mouth because she wasn’t here to share it with me.

Part of me wished she would make an attempt at my life, at least that way I would know she still had me on her mind.

But no, everything was silent. It was like she was a ghost.

Leaning back further, I pinched the skin between my eyebrows. “Arrange the plane, I want to be in London before the weekend.”

The man paused in front of me. “London why?”

“That was her home for a long time. She may have gone back.”

“You think you can find her in a city of over nine million?” He asked incredulously.

“I think I can’t stay here and just wait. It’s been three months. I want to find my wife and I won’t be able to do that sitting here. It’s time I was more proactive.”

“Her brother-“

I knew what he was worried about. Gio had his base in London. Which was another reason to go and check the city out.

“It’s not Gio you have to worry about in that city.” I said softly. A headache formed behind my eyes. “He has power but he is not the power. It’s the Kings that run that country.”

And I wasn’t talking about the monarchy

“You want me to reach out?”

Slowly I stood, shaking my head. “No, I’ll have to do those introductions myself.” I sighed. And I wasn’t looking forward to it. If everything I had heard about the Kings of London was true then I was going to have a hard time explaining why I was in their city looking for my wife.

He nodded once. “I’ll arrange it.”

“Thank you.” Striding passed him, I headed toward my room. Well the room I slept in anyway. Which of course had once been my wife’s gilded prison. I slept in here where I could smell the fading scent of her skin on the sheets.

It was the only bed we had ever shared.

Not nothing to throw on the light, I stripped down to my underwear and slipped under the sheets. But I didn’t close my eyes.

Sleep was not something I did these days. I came in here and I rested. I thought of her and if I did fall into a fitful slumber then my dreams were plagued with her.

I should let her go, I knew that. It had been three months and she hadn’t made contact. Aria was done with me. She wanted out.

She wasn’t coming back.

But I couldn’t do that. I couldn’t let her go. She was my new obsession. Once upon a time it was being Don, now that seemed pointless if she wasn’t at my side.

I didn’t know when she had wormed her way under my skin but she was buried deep now.

Gio and the Judge were right. She was a deadly assassin. She was killing me without even having to fire a shot.

Groaning, I rolled over, yanking my phone out of my pocket and started to flick through the photos. Most of them from the security cameras in this very room. I settled on one of her, sitting cross legged on the bed. Eyes sparkling and lips parted in laughter as she giggled at something I had said to her.

Softly I ran my fingers over her shining face. “Where are you?”
