Chapter 1699 Phone Call
Chapter 1699 Phone Call
Even with a kidney transplant, there was no guarantee that Elmer would get better or that his condition would improve. But without the transplant, he probably wouldn't last a week.
Within one week, they had to find a suitable kidney.
Rachel's body swayed and she nearly fainted. Natalie caught her.
That evening, at the Howard family home.
Ruben looked serious as he made several phone calls, using all his connections to search for a kidney.
But Elmer's blood type was rare, and for the moment, there were no results.
Rachel came to and walked downstairs. Claire stood up to support her. "Why don't you rest a bit more?"
"Mom, I can't sleep." With Elmer lying in a hospital bed, his life hanging in the balance, how could she rest?
Forcing herself to stay alert, she called Isaac, who was far away in Redwood Isle.
But it was too late, and Isaac didn't pick up.
In the living room, all the Howard family members had arrived.
Even Melissa had rushed over.
Natalie was six months pregnant, and Adrian forced her to go rest.
Adrian said, "I've already contacted Dr. Lauren. He'll be on his way from Novaria soon."
An internationally renowned kidney specialist.
Also Jagger's mentor abroad.
But even with the most advanced medical care, without a suitable kidney, it wouldn't help.
Rachel's voice was helpless and trembling. "Grandpa, Grandpa, what should I do?"
In front of her elders, she could drop the brave front she'd worn during the day. As time ticked by, it meant Elmer's life was slowly slipping away.
Ruben gently patted his granddaughter's back. "Don't be afraid. Grandpa's here. Grandpa will do everything possible."
Three days passed.
Every kidney donation center in Aquilonia and even abroad had been checked. There was no kidney that matched Elmer.
Rachel fainted under the scorching sun.
When she woke up, she was in the hospital.
A nurse came to give her an IV, telling her not to be too upset, to avoid harming the baby in her belly.
Rachel hugged herself and cried.
She reached down to touch her belly.
But felt more and more hopeless.
Just then, her phone suddenly rang.
"Hello, is this Ms. Howard? This is the donation center. You asked us to help find a kidney earlier. We haven't found a suitable match because Mr. Roach's blood type is rare. But there's a gentleman whose blood type matches Mr. Roach's. If he's willing to agree..."
Rachel gripped her phone tightly. "The blood type matches? But is he willing to donate?"
She suddenly realized this was a kidney, not just anything else. Why was the donation center calling her? For money? That must be it. The Howard Group had announced yesterday a million-dollar reward for finding a kidney. The donation center probably wanted to get that money too.
"Who is it? Send me their contact information."
She wanted to try. She was willing to offer endless wealth. If it could save Elmer, she'd give anything. If they refused, she wouldn't force them—after all, this was about someone's health.
On the other end, after hanging up, the donation center immediately dialed another number.
"Mr. Lawson, we've contacted Ms. Howard as you instructed."
Rachel looked at the number they'd sent.
She immediately called it.
It connected quickly.
Rachel said, "Hello, is this Mr. Lawson? My husband has acute kidney failure and needs a kidney to save his life. In all of Vachilit, only you can save my husband. I know this isn't a small matter, and I hope you'll consider it. If you're willing, just name your price, and I'll do everything to meet it."
