Chapter 51

"I sense that we do not have much time left here, Velvet. Polar is planning his next moves now, Ingrid is working to free him, but she will not be enough. Within you lies a vast reservoir of magic," Calliope continued. "But this power remains locked behind a barrier, a barrier formed by the very orb in this mountain."

Confusion mingled with my anticipation. "So, how do I access it?" I asked, my voice betraying my eagerness. I was itching to find Polar and kick his teeth in. My mind refused to stop replaying the scene of him throwing me from the cliff. That's okay, I was about to throw him from a cliff and hopefully worse.

Calliope's lips curved into a knowing smile. "To access your power, you must complete the Ritual of Revelation. You must touch the Orb of Truth and open yourself to its energy. Only then will the barrier be lifted, and your true potential be unleashed."

A mixture of excitement and trepidation bubbled within me. The Ritual of Revelation sounded both profound and terrifying.

"Why does it require this ritual?" I asked, my curiosity getting the better of me.

Calliope's eyes held a faraway look, as if she was gazing into the depths of time itself. "The orb is a vessel of ancient magic, Velvet. It holds the collective wisdom of generations of seers. But it is not a passive artifact. It requires an active connection, a link forged through the Ritual of Revelation."

My gaze shifted back to Calliope. "And if I don't complete the ritual?"

"Then your power will remain locked behind the barrier," Calliope explained. "You'll sense its presence, feel its potential, but you won't be able to fully grasp it. The Ritual of Revelation is the key to unlocking that potential, to letting the magic flow through you unhindered."

My palms felt clammy as I considered the enormity of the decision before me. The Ritual of Revelation sounded both awe-inspiring and formidable. But deep within, a fire blazed, a longing to embrace my destiny and the power that lay dormant within me.

"What do I need to do?" I asked, my voice steady despite the mixture of emotions swirling within. I was angry. I was ready to fight.

"Follow me." Calliope grinned.

The chamber was alive with an otherworldly glow, the crystals embedded in the walls casting ethereal shadows across the stone floor. The air felt charged, as if every breath held the promise of something extraordinary. Around me, the other seers stood in a circle, their eyes fixed on the center where the Orb of Truth rested on a pedestal. I glanced at the orb, its radiant hues swirling within like galaxies trapped within glass.

My heart pounded as I stepped forward, the weight of destiny settling on my shoulders. Calliope stood beside me, her presence a reassuring anchor. Her voice was soft but steady as she spoke the ancient words that had been passed down through generations.

"Velvet, Daughter of the Moon, the time has come for you to embrace your power. Let the Orb of Truth reveal the depths of your abilities."

As her words echoed in the chamber, I reached out and touched the orb. The moment my fingers made contact, a surge of energy coursed through me, igniting a fire within my veins. It was as if I was connected to every thread of magic that ever existed, a tapestry of power that stretched through time and space.

The world around me blurred, colors dancing before my eyes. It was as if I had stepped into a realm where reality shifted and changed with every heartbeat. My senses expanded, and I could feel the heartbeat of the earth beneath my feet, the whispers of the wind brushing against my skin.

Then, in a rush of overwhelming sensation, energy poured into me from the orb. It was like standing beneath a waterfall of power, each droplet carrying a piece of knowledge, a fragment of understanding. I saw visions of galaxies being born and worlds crumbling to dust, a cosmic dance of creation and destruction.

In the midst of this torrent, I saw myself as I truly was, not just a woman with a unique ability, but a vessel of immense power. I felt the vastness of my potential, the boundless ocean of magic that flowed within me. It was humbling and awe-inspiring, a reminder that I was a part of something greater than myself.

As the surge of energy subsided, I slowly lowered my hand from the orb. The chamber came back into focus, the gentle light of the crystals illuminating the faces of my fellow seers. I turned to Calliope, my eyes wide with wonder and realization.

"I... I saw," I whispered, my voice trembling. "My power, it's... it's beyond anything I could have imagined."

Calliope smiled, her eyes filled with pride. "You are a force to be reckoned with, Velvet. And now, look within."

I took a deep breath and closed my eyes, turning my newfound senses inward. As I did, I felt a rush of energy radiate from my core, spreading through my veins like liquid fire. When I opened my eyes again, I saw something extraordinary.

The souls of those around me were laid bare, a tapestry of emotions and experiences woven into their very essence. I could see the darkness and light within them, the struggles and triumphs that had shaped their lives. It was as if their souls were vibrant paintings, each stroke of color telling a story.

And then, I looked down at myself and saw that my skin was aglow with a soft, radiant light. I could feel the magic swirling within me, a current of power that connected me to everything around me. I was a part of the cosmos, a channel through which magic flowed.

Tears pricked at the corners of my eyes as I realized the enormity of the gift I had been given. I was no longer just Velvet, the woman who could sense auras. I was Velvet, the seer with the power to touch the very fabric of reality. My thoughts immediately turned to Axe. Even though I couldn't reach him through are mind link, I could now pinpoint where he was. I focused my senses on him, wrapping my arms around his body, hoping that was enough for now.

"Velvet, come you must rest." Calliope said from my side. "Your body has been through a trial. I will have lead you back to your room and have dinner brought to you." Not even attempting to argue I let Calliope lead me back. I softly shut the door, exhaling loudly in my empty room. I spot the silver and emerald door that leads to a balcony and quickly slip outside.

The night had cast its dark veil over the land, painting the sky with a tapestry of stars. I stood alone on the balcony of the mountain, a solitary figure amidst the silence of the heights. Below me, the castle sprawled, its majestic towers and walls shrouded in shadows.

My gaze was drawn to the heart of the castle, to the dungeon where Axe was imprisoned. A pang of longing and worry tugged at my chest as I thought of him, confined within those cold and damp walls. How I wished to be by his side, to assure him that I was here, that I hadn't forsaken him.

The wind rustled through my hair, carrying with it the scent of pine and the crispness of the night. My fingers gripped the stone railing of the balcony, a tangible connection to the present moment. The soft glow of moonlight illuminated the landscape, painting everything in shades of silver.

Axe's face appeared in my mind's eye, his strong features etched with concern. I knew he was fighting against the darkness that Polar had cast upon him, his will unyielding even in the face of adversity. But I also knew that time was not on our side.

A mixture of anger and frustration surged within me. I had unlocked the power that resided within me, the power to pierce through deceit and to sense the threads of fate. But even that power felt inadequate against the web of treachery that had entangled the kingdom.

I closed my eyes, letting the mountain air fill my lungs. With each breath, I tried to draw strength from the earth itself, to feel the pulse of life that connected me to this land. It was as if the very mountain whispered its ancient wisdom into my soul, reminding me of the purpose that had brought me here.

When I opened my eyes again, my vision was sharpened, as if a new clarity had been granted to me. I could see the castle walls, the dimly lit corridors, and the flickering torches. But most importantly, I could sense Axe's presence, a beacon of determination amidst the suffocating darkness.

My heart beat with wildly. I couldn't free him directly from this distance, but I could offer him something equally powerful: hope. Hope that we would find a way, hope that we would overcome whatever odds were stacked against us. Hope that our love would endure.

With a steadying breath, I extended my hand toward the castle, my fingers trembling slightly. The magic within me responded, a gentle thrum of energy resonating through my veins. I envisioned my thoughts reaching out to Axe, a silent reassurance carried on the currents of my magic.

"Stay strong, Axe," I whispered, my voice carried away by the wind. "I'm here, and I won't rest until you're free."

The castle seemed to stand as a sentinel against the night, its secrets and mysteries concealed within its walls. But I knew that with every beat of my heart, with every ounce of will power within me, I was inching closer to unravelling those secrets, to reclaiming the light that had been dimmed by the shadows.

As I stood on that balcony, the mountain beneath me and the stars above, I felt the weight of the kingdom's fate upon my shoulders. But I also felt the warmth of Axe's love, a steadfast flame that guided me through the darkness. And with that love as my anchor, I knew that no matter the trials that lay ahead, I would find a way to bring him back to the light. My love for him endless well of strength inside me.
