Chapter 207 Chapter 0207
AERITH'S POV
"Let him go!" My scream tore through the chaos; every head turned toward me. My heart felt like it was being ripped from my chest as I stared at Lucien, trapped inside the enormous cage, surrounded by those terrifying blue flames. His hands were trembling, his face twisted with pain as the flames crawled around him; his blood was dripping. My fist clenched; this was all the doing of that bastard who called himself my brother. When that smoke and dust filled the air, I felt my body suck into something I couldn't explain, separating me from Lucien. It took me a great deal to find Lucien because I couldn't get into his head, and I couldn't feel him. I was going to teach Thalion a lesson, but for now, I need to save Lucien. "Lucien!" I screamed and ran towards him; his eyes found mine.
"Aerith no," he shouted, "you can't be here." I stopped, then I saw him smile faintly. I guess he was thinking I would leave him here and look for safety, but that isn't the case; something strange was happening to me. My ears suddenly shot from beneath my hair, no longer hidden by the magic that had concealed them, heat turned through my body, and my eyes began to sting, not from tears, but from rage, I looked at the flames surrounding Lucien, I knew those flames, my breathing stopped, I had seen this before, the cage, the blue fire, the man with a molten gold eyes screaming in pain in there, me standing somewhere far away watching it happen, that vision that had scared me that I didn't understand, until now, the memories came rushing back so quickly that I nearly stumbled, so the man was Lucien and the flames belongs to faeries, they were created from Fae magic, magic that could burn through dragon scales itself. "Let him go! I screamed again. The faerie leader stepped forward, his eyes narrowed.
"Why?" I stared at him
"Because he has done nothing to you."
"They told us, you were taking the side of the monsters who banished our kind." His voice echoed across the battlefield.
"And you believe whoever told you that?"
"Yes, we believe it. How could you take sides with the one who kidnapped you and banished our kind?" I stared at him.
"Then you got the wrong information." My voice was low, even when my eyes were burning. "He had nothing to do with that!"
"Then why are you protecting him?"
"Because he is my mate, and he did none of those things you accuse him of.” The words left my lips before I could stop them; the leader's expression hardened.
"But he is a dragon."
"I know what he is."
"He is one of them!"
"He is not like them!" I pointed toward Lucien. "he has never betrayed our people, and he wouldn't do that. I am standing here today because of him." I smiled weakly as I remembered the first night. I was dragged here by Jael; the first night our eyes met in the dungeon, he knew I was Fae, but he didn't tell on me. The leader's gaze shifted toward Lucien.
"And yet he carries their blood."
"He carries my heart!" Lucien stared at me through the cage, for a second, everything else disappeared, then the leader spoke.
"You want him released?"
"Yes," I said without hesitation.
"Then give me what I want." My stomach tightened.
"What do you want?" His eyes locked onto mine.
"You!" I blinked.
"What?"
"Yes, I want you beside me." I took a step backwards.
"No," his expression darkened.
"That wasn't a request."
"I don't care." I looked at Lucien. "I already have my mate." The leader pointed toward the cage.
"That weakling?" My blood boiled. He knows nothing about Lucien; if it were someone else in that cage, they might have dropped dead already.
"He is not weak!" The words exploded from me. "He is stronger than you will ever understand." The leader laughed.
"I thought he was lying when he told us you had betrayed our kind." I stared at him. Something strange happened; for one brief second, the world became quiet. I could feel his emotions; his soul was laid bare before me, and I saw the truth behind the mask. He didn't care about the Faeries; he didn't care about our people; he didn't care about justice; all he wanted was power. My eyes widened when the memories of my mother's frightened face, her trembling hands, the way she had spoken about the Faerie forest, the reason she had been forced to leave, came back. It was these monsters behind everything. My gaze slowly hardened.
"You!" The words left my lips in anger, The leader frowned.
"What?"
"You are the one." His expression changed. "You forced my mother to run away after her parents were killed in the war." He went silent. I could see the truth in his eyes. He was my mother's uncle, Eli; that is his name. "You are Eli." His jaw tightened
"How do you know?" I saw fear in his eyes but he masked it fast.
"You drive my mother away."
"She was weak." My hand curled into a fist.
"No, you wanted her gone because she stood between you and the throne," his eyes flashed.
"You know nothing,"
"I know enough," I could see everything now, he wanted the chosen one, he wanted the power that came with me, he had started this war so he could claim me as his weapon, and once he had me, he intended to rule not only the faeries, but the dragons as well. I laughed, Eli stared at me.
"You think this is funny?"
"Yes." My laughter grew. "You really thought you could fool me?" His face twisted with anger. "You are betraying them while acting as if you care." Eli laughed; it was his turn to laugh. Then he turned toward the Faeries surrounding us.
"Ask them," my brows furrowed. I watched the crowd silently as he raised his voice. "Am I betraying you?" For a moment there was silence, then one faerie shouted.
"No!" Another voice joined in,
"No!" Soon the entire Battlefield erupted.
"No!"
"No!"
"He is not the traitor!" My face darkened; he looked directly at me.
"Who is the traitor?" He roared, his eyes fixed on me.
"She is! The chosen one who is supposed to redeem us." The raiders screamed.
"What do you want?" Eli's voice came up again.
"Vengeance for our kind!"
"Then kill her!" Eli's voice came up, my heart stopped.
"But she is the chosen one." One of the raiders shouted.
"But she betrayed us;" another shouted
"Yes, she betrayed her own people!" Eli screamed. The Faeries hesitated; Eli's voice became louder, "Kill her and redeem our kind." That was enough for the air to explode; vines burst from the ground. I threw myself sideways as they tore through the earth where I had been standing. My hands ignited; fire erupted from my palms. This was the first time I was using my fire in the dragon's Kingdom. I threw it forward; the flames collided with Eli's magic. The battlefield shook, and he stumbled backward.
"You dare!" He screamed.
"I dare everything." I summoned my vines; they burst from the earth, wrapping around his legs. He sliced through them with a wave of magic. I sent fire toward him; he blocked it. He attacked again while I dodged. Our magic collided across the battlefield. I wasn't fighting because I wanted to kill him, but I was fighting to protect Lucien, to protect myself and my people. But Eli was powerful, I will admit, and he was fighting to kill me. He sent a massive wave of vines toward me. I jumped over them. Another spell came from behind me. I spun, but I was too slow; the magic struck my side. "Ah!" I was thrown across the ground; the pain exploded through my body, and I hit the ground.
"Aerith!" Lucien's scream ripped through me. I tried to stand; my arms shook. Eli raised his hand.
"Attack!" Eli commanded, and those stupid Faeries descended; fire rained from the sky. I rolled away from one blast; another exploded beside me. I summoned my vines, using them to knock back several attackers. I refused to kill them; they were still my people, even if they were attacking me. I couldn't bring myself to destroy them, but there were too many. Then another spell struck me. I couldn't hold the pain in; I screamed, and my body slammed against the ground. "Good!" Eli's cheerful voice filled the air. I shut my eyes, trying to breathe, but it was becoming too difficult to do that, and then I heard a thunderous roar that shook the entire kingdom. My eyes widened; the cage around Lucien began to tremble. "What the fuck!" Eli cursed.
"No!" Lucien's voice thundered, "Not my mate!" He roared, and the ground shook violently; the bars of the cage cracked; Lucien's eyes burned with fury. "No one touched my mate and stay alive." And just like that, the cage exploded; the blue flames disappeared; water burst from beneath the earth, rushing across the field and extinguishing the remaining flames. As he stepped out, his dragon's power erupted around him, and Eli's face went pale.
"He broke the cage." His voice trembled. I saw fear in his eyes. Lucien's gaze found mine; his gaze locked on mine. "I thought..." He didn't finish because he had already turned and was about to flee, such a coward. I lifted my trembling hand.
"Eli!" I screamed as I froze the water, turning it to ice, and lunged at Eli. He barely had time to turn before the ice wrapped around his legs, then moved to his waist, then his chest; he was completely trapped. The faeries stared; none of them moved. The ice continued climbing until only Eli's head remained uncovered. I slowly rose to my feet; my body was shaking, but I wasn't stopping. If before I had no plans to kill him, now I did want to kill him. I raised my other hand, letting my fire erupt from me and turning it into a fireball, lunging it at his hair.
"Ah! It hurt." I smirked, I wanted him to feel what it means to be inside fire and have no way of escaping. A faerie dropped from the sky; immediately, he saw what had happened to Eli, and his eyes widened.
"She is..." His voice trembled. "The one." Another dropped.
"The last Fae Queen." A third whisper
"The queen who commands fire and ice." Silence filled the battle, then someone folded his wings and dropped to his knees.
"All hail the last Fae Queen."
