Chapter 32

Aureus

“Let me ride with you.” Grace demanded. Her eyes were flaming with her horns out. The others were intimidated, while I thought she looked hot…

“The humans aren’t just killing supernaturals…. It seems they’re capturing us as well. Horned Wolf or not, you’re Still allergic to silver… and if they know I hold you as a mate, you’ll be a target.” I said firmly.

“So you’re not pulling the ‘you’re a woman and you should be here’ trope?” She asked.

“No, I’m pulling the ‘if you’re a target, I will make You my priority, not the eggs’ trope. Please, do Not follow us my love…. I know with your viciousness and training you could probably do this yourself, but I need to know that I won’t have to make a decision between saving you or some poor family’s egg.” I said kissing her on the cheek.

“We could attend Golden Financial.” Said Wyn. The other dragons seemed a bit… disgruntled that an Omega speak in their presence, but I really liked my niece. The glare I shot them made them hush their disrespectful thoughts. I’ll make it my business to marry her off high… I’ll run it past her though.

Atlas would be a good fit… Technically, he is my royal advisor now….. Not an Official rank mind you, but about as high as it got without challenging.

Also he had no whelps or concubines… so there would be no competition in his house…

“Well… I guess…?” She mumbled. “Do you know who’s scheduled to meet Aureus?”

Wyn happily held her hand. “I don’t but I bet his human servants will.” She beamed. “I always wanted to attend at the right side of his majesty there….”

“Go with Wyn.” I held her close to my heart, running my fingers through her hair… it was pillow soft, as were her lips…. The tender kiss we shared made her forget her momentary anger…

“Alright.” Grace relented… “Come back to me in one piece.” She warned.

“I will.” I said pressing my forehead to hers.

This was something dragons only did with their equals, only the closest warrior or blood brother bond…. It legitimately shocked my people, and passively told them that should anything happen to her in their care, there would be nothing left of them.

“We will stay here and protect the Den.” Said my half-brother, Sainevvi, the second seat.

He was one of the original nay sayers, yet now he was the first to volunteer the group.

They all agreed with him as I asked for one more pot of coffee. This one was boiling hot, but it wasn’t for energy… it was for flavor. I loved black coffee, and as a multi-ton dragon, I could filter out the caffeine just fine.

“You Ready Saiyoken?” I asked my nephew, who looked surprised that I genuinely considered his accompaniment. He assumed I’d just ask for the location and leave by myself.

It seemed the entire court that was here thought I’d say that.

“Yes sir.” He said getting up and removing his tie.

“Actually, that’s not a bad idea. We can leave our clothes here.” I said stripping… I was completely healed.

Xaxas was a dirty cheat… but this time I didn’t mind his blatant disregard for rules….

‘Have nothing to do with me.’

Yeah right.

I noticed the ogling of my Grace…. She had to be led away by Wyn…

“Happy hunting Lord Saitoh’Frag’Naw.” Said Sainevvi.

“I Really hate that name… just call me Lord or King Aureus.” I said leaving.

I got Looks from any female in the area… Fuck the walk to the elevator seemed… longer…

“My lord you look disgruntled.” Said Saiyoken. My nephew looked about the same level of discontentment. We both had flames. Truly mated males did not wonder…

“It’s fine.” I said riding the elevator with him.

“Did you see grandfather?” He asked once we were alone.

“No…. but I know he’s soaring around down there like he wanted.” I said honestly.

“He wasn’t a bad grandfather…. I do miss him.” He said quietly.

“That’s normal… good relatives hold a special place in our hearts, but the pain will fade young one.” I said getting off at my penthouse.

Dragons were not like mammal based creatures… our mourning wasn’t long.

“What the Fuck is that thing!” He yelled at Snow, who didn’t like being yelled at.

Supernaturals really didn’t have mortal pets… I didn’t rightly know why I brought him upstairs when he was a kitten….

“That’s Snow. He’s a cat.” I said motioning him. “Yeah You.” I said seeing his eyes narrow at me… He ‘led’ me to his food bowl with meows… and I facepalmed.

“I mean… I’ve seen them on TV and such, but… can I touch it sire?” He asked, getting a nod from me. “They are really soft.” He mumbled.

I chuckled.

“Pass me the dry food.” I told Saiyoken… he looked confused until he scented it. I had dry for instances like this…. I also had to keep that locked in a cat proof box…. He only got wet with monitoring because he likes knocking his food on the floor. There was no telling when any of us would get back, and even though it was Noon, he didn’t care. The little shit was delighted.

“I might get one of those… it holds no fear.” He mumbled.

“No they don’t. He’s the littlest shit that ever shat but he’s my little fluff goblin. They chew wires, claw everything But their scratching posts, and they jump on everything, and always try to escape outside… knowing Full Well they are an Indoor cat. Wyn keeps this place cat hair free…. But if she didn’t dust, it would be All over my clothes, their shit Stinks, and if you get one with an attitude, you damn near want to throw them out the window… oh… and the worst part. You’re GOING to get attached to it. They only live about 2 decades.” I said looking at Snow eat….

“Two decades…. I’m sorry sir.” He said with a light smile.

That little fucker was my son. He knew it too….

I sighed. “But if you get one, be ready to be entertained. They live for doing whatever they want. I Heard you can train them, but the only thing he knows is the tisk that I use to call him for dinner.” I chuckled. “But he also seems to know when I have a stressful day…I still got a bit of time with him, so don’t apologize yet.”

“Alright sir.” Said Saiyoken. We got on the roof, and I hoped he wouldn’t say anything to the other lords, but if he did… Snow really was a weakness.

But I’m serious…. If anyone tries to kidnap or harm my cat, I’m going to jail for arson again. As a King, that was probably no longer possible, but it doesn’t matter.

The other Dragon Lords stayed at my Den while Atlas and Sainevvi was sent to protect Grace. Saiyoken and I flew together. It was custom since he was lower, that he flies lower. We flew high in the air too, where the air was thin.

We were about the same height up as planes, cloaked by my Den’s temple. Air wasn’t a problem, because we hovered lower about every thirty minutes.

To me he was only a whelp anyway, being under 200, but for any normal dragon, he would impress. No one would question the night black iron dragon if he told them he was Crown Prince.

And none would question my rule as King, other than my past. I Really Did want to help these eggs though… The political motivation was negligible, as it just didn’t sit right with me that my people be pets.

Snow was a pet. A Dog would be a Pet….They are simple beings made to be loved and cherished… They were small, and lacked sentient mind…. Taking a supernatural creature to make into a slave would be terrible. I could only assume what they intended with them…

Since we send out Omegas to do things for our dens, or werewolf packs, or whatever creature… normal mortal dogs cannot sniff them out as supernatural. Omegas have no powers, and as such the gods blessed them that they can even be immune to dragon’s bane root, silver, or non-reflective eyes…Many had bland hair colors, as humans can’t be born with blue or green hair for example.

They lack the ability to do anything supernatural, not even the scent, and as such, they cannot be discovered… but stealing an egg and forcing a child to grow to hate their own people… to seek them out and aid Hunters…. That was cruel.

THAT was the human’s plans… I Knew that…

[Sire, your snarls are very vicious.] Said Saiyoken.

[I know.] I said not realizing that I was. [I don’t know if you’ve ever shut down a Headhunter lodge, but I have… do not hesitate because of what you see… Do not give any, not even the children who hold weapons quarter. Small children, ones who have not been taught these ways can be released to the Secret Police…] I said silently.

That is that part no one talks about… the whelps of these mortals are not Like regular humans. They hold Second Sight, meaning no matter who they’re taken in by…. they Will have the ability to see through the flesh façade…. Even if they’re adopted, they will eventually learn of this world… But humans are also vengeful, more so than even we dragons…

[I haven’t.] Said Saiyoken. [I think then I should handle the children. I can see in your eyes that you will not mind doing the unspoken, unwanted work.]
