Chapter 22 Losing control
Saving my first kiss had been one more thing I did at Mom and Dad’s request.
At least that is how it began.
No boyfriends, no messing around.
Teen years rolled around, there was no real temptation to crack that resolve. And four years ago, I learned the hard way why some doors were best left closed.
But right now…
My heart was flooded with regrets.
I had just one more year to live if I failed to resist this ritual, and I was only now experiencing the magic of a kiss.
The magic of a kiss from someone who loved you.
My heart sang, raced at this moment of being kissed by a man who adored me.
Who loved me.
It was in his kiss. I felt the passion of every word he had confessed earlier as his lips moved against mine.
Warm in a way that made me blush, soft in a way that felt unreal. It was like tasting clouds at the tips of my tongue.
Every brush, every caress of his lips sent shivers down my spine, and caused my body to tremble against him. His forearm came around my waist, anchoring me.
He ran his tongue across my lips and my clit pulsed like a heartbeat. Goosebumps covered my skin.
As insistent as he was gentle, his tongue parted my lips with careful tenderness. Exploration strictly followed absolute consent.
I was breathless and weak in the knees, but his hand tightened around my waist seconds before I would have crumbled to the floor and melted in a puddle.
There was a growing ache to feel him, to feel the length of him line up against me. So moving my idle hands hanging by my sides, I placed them on his shoulders.
He yanked me even closer, a free hand coming up to caress my waist.
I moaned.
He pulled away immediately and his eyes flew open. They burned with a strange light.
“Did I do something?” I stared, stunned, confused as my cheeks burned in embarrassment.
He stared right at me for one more second, and then shook his head as if shaking some kind of thought away.
Then he grabbed my hand and laid it flat against the place I least expected.
My eyes went round as a jolt ran through my arm at contact with his dick. Hard, so hard.
The memory of two nights ago came suddenly, the dragon’s dick, the single pulsing vein, the purple glistening head of it.
My eyes closed briefly, as my body swayed from side to side.
In two days, I seemed to have come a long way.
From having never seen a real dick in my life to seeing one, feeling one, and now wondering what it would feel like and taste like in my mouth.
Silver above!
I gently pulled my hand away from him.
“You sounded so fucking good just now that I’m…” He bit his lip. “...a little worried I won’t be able to control myself around you.”
I blushed and turned to face the lake quietly.
He moved closer and threw his arm around me. And I could not resist leaning against him as we stared at the still water like best friends.
The silence between us was comfortable, but I had no doubt that our minds were in the same place. How different our lives would have been if we met at another time, under a different circumstance.
“It’s cold.” He moved away from me, “We should head ba…” His voice rose in panic. “You are bleeding.”
My shoulders stiffened.
Again? I thought the incident at the studio had been an accident.
I turned around to assure him it wasn’t a big deal when my throat closed in horror.
“Finn,” I backed away, “Why are your canines out?”
His teeth snapped as he leaned down, “I don’t know,” his voice came out distorted, deep and gruff like some type of movie sound effect. His eyes burned, hungry.
“Finn,” I repeated, still backing away, now in full-blown panic as I realized how breathless I was. How much effort it took to continue breathing."
“Are you OK?” He winced through his own pain. “Lys.” His hand dropped to his knees as his groan seemed to tear the air like an old fabric. “Lys?”
A growl tore out of me.
His head jerked back in surprise.
I stared back at him, just as surprised.
That had been unintentional. I did not mean to growl at him like he was an enemy.
Rhea. I mentally reached for my wolf, but she was unresponsive. Something was wrong with her.
Finn screamed suddenly, his voice carrying intense pain as he crashed to his knees. His hands clawed the lawn, ripping out tufts of grass.
“Go away, Lys. Run.”
But I couldn’t move. My legs, my vision, my lungs, they were all beginning to fail.
“What’s wrong with your eyes?” I screamed.
His eyes were literally on fire now, smoke drifting out from around the socket. Before I could say any more words, a horrible pain tore through me, ripping out a howl from my throat.
I crashed to the floor, momentarily crazy from the blinding pain.
I felt him then, burning lava and lilies.
Would he blame me for summoning him again even though I had no idea how I did that?
Even though he was still supposed to be at work.
He hauled me up, balancing me in his strong arms.
“Finn.” I managed to whisper through my pain.
“Hale has him.” Came the dragon’s response.
The next second, I felt the air change. We had left the garden, and wherever we were was packed.
I opened my eyes to find us standing in the ground lobby of the pack hospital. The chaos was straight out of a nightmare.
People collapsed against benches, sprawled on the floor, pacing about, groaning, screaming out in pain, vomiting as nurses ran back and forth.
Glancing over the dragon’s shoulder, I saw Hale walk through the front door with Finn slung over his shoulder.
They no doubt they had just used that door as a portal, and they had those magic masks on again.
My body trembled at the sight of them, big and monstrous like this, even though I knew it was a mirage. I turned at the sound of running footsteps just as a nurse stopped before us.
“All doctors are engaged.” Her eyes dropped to the floor.
“Don’t bloody tell me you cannot spare a doctor for my wife.” He roared and terrified screams went out all around us as the floor tremor, and the building seemed to tilt.
“Draki,” Hale called from behind, and beneath my cheek resting against his chest, I felt his heartbeat slow down.
“Get me a bloody doctor.” His voice was a dark whisper. “Now.”
The nurse bolted.
Everyone in the lobby had gone quiet, no doubt terrified at this rare sight of the monster gods. These mortals who only showed up for vital ceremonies, now standing in the hospital like normal people.
Despite being in this excruciating pain, I could not help fretting. What if someone recognized me?
What if they plused up the situation and took the news back to the academy that I was the Hearthrown Alphas woman of the decade?
“Come,” I heard Hale say as that peppermint scent moved past us. And my body bounced in the Dragon’s arms as he began to walk again.
When next I opened my eyes, we were in a private waiting room, and he was staring down at me, wiping the sweat off my face with his palm.
“You’ll be OK.” He looked away, and I doubted he was aware that his hand was stroking my knee.
