Chapter 143 Intent or accident?

Chapter 143 Intent or accident?
His strides swallowed the gap between us before I could move, and his lips fell on my neck. A few seconds in, I was moaning again, cocooned in the warmth of his jacket that was now wrapped around us both.

“It excites you just as much, doesn't it?” His baritone was like honey dripping into my ear, his words like the devil's whisper. “Having all three of us fuck you at once.”

“Hale.”

“Do you dream about it too? Because I do.” His lips were on my neck, his hands in search of skin under my dress. “I dream of forcing my cock in Finn’s mouth while he fucks you.”

“Moon above.”

He clutched my breasts and squeezed. “I dream of doing all this while Daine watches, loving every bit of it.” I was wet again, my clit throbbing like it had not just been worked till I could barely stand. “I dream of sharing your pussy with that dragon, while Finn takes you from the back.”

I stumbled back, my eyes round, my heart racing.

He smirked, that mischievous light in his eyes. Elegant playboy. But it seemed he was done teasing me, because he moved towards the balcony railings again and gestured for me to move forward.

I hesitated, but took small steps and settled beside him. “As thrilling as all that sounds.” His voice was firm again, logical mayor. “We cannot force the other two to want it. So this bad fantasy will have to be our little secret.”

My shoulders caved. Secret number two. I already had this major secret with Mordaine. Now I would have to nestle my secret about being a quad, between me and Hale alone.

I caught a sudden movement behind us from my tail vision, and shivered. I spun around but saw nothing.

“Are you OK?”

“Yes,” I returned my gaze to his slightly worried eyes. “Have you forgiven me?”

His eyes melted, and he looked away, his elbows still resting on the railings. “I have never been able to sustain anger at you.” He barked out a harsh laugh now, and it echoed into the empty courtyard below, “After our split, I would wake up every day hoping you would change your mind and return to me.”

My spine stiffened, “What?”

“I would have hugged you in a blink if you ever returned. But you never did.” He turned sideways to find me staring at him in disbelief. He started to speak, but stopped. Then his brows furrowed.

“There is definitely something different about you, Lys. Since I returned. I just have been unable to identify it.”

I said nothing, standing still and wondering if he could hear how loudly my heart was beating.

“You already know this,” he said quietly, and I was beginning to relax again when he added. “I love you, I never stopped.”

The world went hush and my ears popped. Those words hit me like a punch to the gut, and my momentary carelessness made me gasp.

I spun on my heel, rushing down the hallway.

“Lys.”

I did not stop. Did not look back.

“Lys.”

I hitched my skirt and began to run. But I did not get far, he grabbed my arm and moved to block my path.

“Please let me go,” I whimpered, unable to meet his eyes, “Tamar would be worried.”

He did not even blink. I hooked my fingers in his and tried to pry his hand off, but they only seemed to clamp down more firmly.

“Hale!” I snapped.

“Give it up.” He shot back. “You think I’ll allow you to run away from me again? Something is wrong, and you better start talking now.”

“I don’t want to.”

“You're defying your alpha?” he said in a low dark voice that made my knees knock together. Then my shoulders fell.

“I thought it was my husband,” I whispered.

His arms went around me immediately, holding me against himself as he hissed in frustration. “It is, fairy. It always is. Can you be a little less stubborn?”

I moved my head back to gaze into his eyes. “I love you, Hale.”

His hand came up, stroking my cheek tenderly. “I do too, sweet Lys. I love you.”

“But I cannot love you.” My voice was barely audible, but he went rigid against me. Then he stepped back, brows furrowed in a frown.

“What do you mean?”

“I cannot love you,” I whined now, frustrated. “I can not love any of you.”

He clearly did not understand me, and I decided to tell him all about my dreams. If he understood and just walked me through my complicated feelings for him and Finn, he would understand when I told him about the shadowed silhouettes who gave me tasks and instructions in my dreams.

But just as I opened my mouth, a sharp cry tore through the building. It could have been thunder because the night was perfectly still.

Hale and I shared a startled look.

The cry came again, a woman's voice, calling for help. Hale teleported, leaving a dark wind behind.

I ran down the hallway, as fast as Rhea could aid me, but I stumbled and nearly fell back the moment I turned the corner.

My eyes were round, hardly believing what I was seeing.

Finn was standing just by the stairway landing, his mouth, the front of his white shirt, his hands, blood. Deep red blood that looked like tar.

A woman was slumped against him, her eyes open but lifeless, and as she fell to the floor I saw the canine bite marks on her neck. My sister looked nothing like the woman I saw less than half an hour ago.

Hale was shaking Finn by the shoulders now, screaming at him and asking him what he had done. But Finn seemed dazed, in some type of trance.

I crumbled to the floor, staring at Gianna who lay with her eyes open, unmoving. And then I screamed.
