Chapter 142 The Truth

Chapter 142 The Truth
"Someone!
Anyone!", Mia started as she ran towards two guards outside of the mansion.

It was dark outside, thus, the men on standby were confused at first.

Her shrill cry disturbing the silence that encompassed the space beforehand.

"What?
What's going on?!", The men asked as they rushed to her, alarmed as they cocked their guns.

To see Mia scream wasn't a usual occurrence.

"Madam Paula...!", Mia started, tears in her eyes as she brought her hand to her head.

"What's going on with her?!", One of them asked as the other ran inside.

Mia continued to cry as she pretended not to find words to describe the situation.

"She fell!
She fell from the stairs and she's not...!", Mia continued as she shook her head vigorously.

Quite a performance actually!!

"She's not what?!", The guard urged, still rattled from her theatrics.

"She's not breathing!", Mia answered as more tears streamed down her face.

"Shit!", The guard cursed before storming in.

Mia looked at the back of the guard as he ran into the mansion.

Her once expressive face suddenly became passive as she started calculating how to leave.

She eyed the path that led to the other entrance of the mansion, the one Sebestian had used before his death.

'That's the one!' Mia thought to herself, as she knew going through the main gate would be impossible.

Mia followed after the men soon after, noting to herself to pack the most important things.

Why?
Because she didn't have a lot of time.

"I don't know how it happened!", Mia said as she came to a halt beside the men who confirmed her death.

"Go!
Get the rest!
We should probably call The Don as well!", The guard instructed Mia.

"Call Andreas, The Don needs to know!", Mia heard as she walked towards the bunker.

A few men were in the room the bunker was located, typing away on the keyboards.

However , keeping the act up, she notified them of what had happened.

Soon, the majority of the guards were in the mansion, waiting for Luciano's arrival.

Including one with profound dislike for Mia, Marco!

The rest had taken her body to her room in the meantime.

Word quickly spread to the rest of Luciano's men that Madam Paula had unexpectedly passed away.

Men who were at the office, some on duty, some on important jobs across Italy, and the rest in the mansion.

It was quite hard to grapple with, as she had been a mother to them all.

She cooked for them, cared for them, and talked with them.

Madam Paula was all they could possibly ask for.

"You should probably go to your room!", One of the guards suggested as they saw Mia shed a lot of tears.

"Right!
We'll wait here till The Don arrives!", another supporter.

"I couldn't possibly!
I'll wait here!
I'll wait till The Don arrives!
Madam Paula just died!", Mia said, trying to refute.

To get sympathy from the men.

"We all know that!
However, It's best if you just stay in your room in the meantime!", The men countered.

One of them escorted her to her room, where she continued to cry until she heard receding footsteps.

Confirming he was gone, Mia quickly sprung up, cleaning her tears and packing her most important items.

Especially the burner phone.

"How stupid!", He said to herself as she thought of the men who easily fell for her tears.

She brought out the makeshift rope she had made out of multiple bedsheets from under her bed, proceeding to tie it to her window.

The rope worked well as it supported her weight.

As soon as she was on the floor, she ran towards the back entrance, making her way out of the mansion.

She had to make a run for it before one of them was smart enough to realize what she had done.

"I'm going to miss that old hag!
Anyways!
So long Luciano!!", Mia said to herself as she brought out the burner phone to make a call.

She only had to wait a while as a small car came to pick her up afterwards.

Marco who watched Mia leave the room couldn't shake the feeling he had.

It didn't make sense that Madam Paula would fall down the stairs.

She'd been climbing the same stairs for years now.

"How did she fall again?!", Marco asked the guard behind him.

"They said she fell down the stairs!", the guard replied.

"I don't believe that crap!", Marco said as he looked in the direction Mia had walked before.

It just wasn't adding up to him.

As he shook his head, he saw that a camera had been placed there.

"Tombola!", Marco said as he walked up to Aldo.

"Hey Aldo!
The cameras...
They are working!?", Marco asked, gathering the attention of the men in the room.

"Of course they are!
Fully functional!", Aldo replied.

"Why?!", Another guard asked, trying to make sense of the situation.

"That bullcrap the girl said, I don't believe it!
I want to see how Madam Paula fell!", Marco said.

"How could she possibly fall?
She'd been climbing the same stairs for years now!", Marco said as the men actually started thinking.

"Vera!"

"Vera!"

"Vera!", Marco heard most men say.

However, before Aldo was done retrieving the footage, vans were driving into the compound.

"The Don's here!", One guard said as the men stood up.

Marco simply smiled as he finally got dirt on Mia.

Luciano walked in, saddened by the news Andreas broke to him on their way back to the mansion.

"Where's her body!?", Luciano asked, his face expressionless, and his eyes dull.

"We took her to her room Don!", Matteo answered whilst the rest kept quiet.

"How did it happen?", Luciano asked.

"She fell from the...!", Mattoe started before Aldo cut him off.

"Actually...!", Aldo started as the whole room looked towards his direction

"Mia pushed Madam Paula!", he completed.

In no time, some men rushed towards her room, breaking into the space to capture Mia.

"Let me see that?!", Andreas approached Aldo.

You would equally be shocked if you had feelings from the lady in question.

Especially if she hadn't done anything suspicious.

Mia who was basically two steps ahead beat them at their own game.

They shot at what they thought was a body, but it was simply pillows she had meticulously placed to look like a body.

The makeshift rope was the next to get their attention as they ransacked the room.

"She's escaped!", the men shouted.

Luciano stayed quiet as the men roamed the mansion in search of Mia, however, they soon realized she was long gone.

Andreas remained equally shocked.

"How could she?", he asked Aldo who didn't have answers to his question.

And then, it all made sense to Luciano...

Mia had been the traitor all along.

If he had seen that, Isabella and Sofia wouldn't be kidnapped, and Madam Paula would still be alive.

He soon realized he was rather quick to point fingers.
