Chapter 55 He Chose Her
Chapter 55 He Chose Her
The breezing wind hit her face freshly. She was lying on a lounge chair, in the middle of the beach, among a bunch of people. Lounging with her hands behind her head, enjoying the afternoon, she had grown used to this lifestyle, she loved it. Why shouldn’t she love this kind of lifestyle? All she did was wake up in the morning, shop, lounging by the beach, get home, and sleep. She didn’t have to worry about money because they flow into her bank account weekly.
At first, she was mad. She couldn’t believe she was being dumped somewhere unfamiliar. The luxury city felt like a jungle to survive, but thankfully, they speak English. The first few days were hell. The currency change, the food, and the transportation, which she could do all of that by herself, and now she had to rely on public services. So, it kinda slow her living situation. But now, she was enjoying the quiet and slow life. No drama and no bullshits.
A shadow covered her face, shielding her from the sunlight. She raised an eyebrow and lifted the sunglasses over her head. Her confused face looked at the man intruding on her evening leisure time. The man smiled brightly, which confused her even more.
“Excuse me?” Her tone was aggressive, her eyes shot angrily at the guy. She didn’t buy his smile, no matter how big or genuine it was. When someone interrupted her leisure time, she took it very seriously.
“Wanna grab dinner together?” The guy didn’t back off, even when his approach wasn't warmly welcomed. He kept his demeanor up, the outgoing and supple characters had to be spotless.
“How much do you have?” she asked, raising an eyebrow, challenging him. Oh, yes, she was not an innocent, cheap girl like her little sister. She knew her worth, and if people didn’t meet her criteria, she casually discarded them. Did she care about their feelings? Actually, she might have sympathy for some. But, she would rather not show it because she didn’t like getting hurt by an irresponsible person.
“About as much as Alaister Valentini. Get up, Giselle. We have a lot to negotiate,” he said, now he turned serious. His fun trait had gone, and his real deal appeared.
The woman in her sexy dress stopped functioning for a few moments, but her eyes didn’t leave his. She kept calm because she knew not to defy danger. He was definitely not one of Zeno’s men, because they knew not to get involved with her. Giselle looked around, searching for Zeno’s men. He wouldn’t let her be taken by some unknown, right? Giselle definitely didn’t know the guy who stood in front of her right now.
“I can get you out of this country and back to your family in The State, Giselle,” he kept trying to pursue her, promising things she might not need.
“Why should I?” she shot back, clearly knowing her opponent now. Why should she trade her freedom to be locked up in a marriage she never agreed to? Oh, she would rather be dumped in an unknown than being tied to a ridiculous marriage, it was not even a contract marriage, it was a real marriage with who knows the expiration. “Who are you anyway?”
“Miss. Giselle, your Uber is here.” A guy in a black uniform came up to them, announcing the arrival of an Uber under Giselle’s name. A ghost Uber that came in the right timing, ‘saving’ her from this creep.
“Oops, sorry. My ride is here.” Giselle quickly got up and gathered her things before following the uniform guy, whom she knew was one of Zeno’s men. She adjusted her blouse, covering her sticky body from bathing in the sunlight. Even though it was not direct sunlight, the sunlight still made her sweaty. The heat and sand, and also the occasional wind? It was a combination of disasters. Didn't you think so?
“Who is he? Do you know?” Giselle asked the guy named Luka, she knew them, the one who kept her in this city by keeping a good eye on her, watching her every move, and reporting them to the big boss, who was none other than Zeno Alaister Valentini.
“He’s Leo, a friend of Matthew Archer,” the guys replied, thinking she should know because if he tried to approach her again, she would know who she talked to, who she played against.
“Matthew Archer, as in my sister’s ex-boyfriend?”
“Yeah, that’s the one,” Luka confirmed. He opened the back door of the car for Giselle and then got into the passenger seat. Giselle’s curiosity hadn’t died down, so she kept asking. If she was about to be dragged into his game, she wanted to know her opponent. She couldn’t be seen as foolish and empty when she faced the enemy, just like that meeting earlier.
“Why did he come looking for me? Did Lyla run away?” Giselle asked, looking at both men sitting in the front seats.
“No, Madam is doing fine with Don Alaister. He came looking for you, probably because Matthew tried to get Madam back,” Luka said. He looked through the mirror and saw Giselle sigh heavily and lean back on the seat. “Do you have something to say?”
“No. It’s just— How do you get rid of someone who has dead eyes on you? Matthew loved her to death.” Giselle shook her head while speaking.
“What are you talking about?” Luka was confused and flabbergasted by her response.
“I said… Matthew loved my sister to death. He even let go of his career in Spain to stay with Lyla in The State. You know he’s an heir of the tech company, right?”
“Right.” Luka nodded his head, listening closely to what she was saying. Because it could be good information for his boss.
“Matthew chose my sister over her father. That’s why he’s not getting any shares because he chose her over him.” When she was done talking, her phone rang. Giselle looked at the screen and couldn't help but question the coincidence.
