Chapter 219
Chapter 219
When Edward glanced up, he found Victoria already seated next to him, behaving obediently.
Despite her less-than-stellar mood, she took a few deep breaths to calm herself down.
Trying to act nonchalant, Victoria flashed a smile and quipped, "Aren't you supposed to be swamped lately? What brings you here to fetch me again?"
Edward, without pointing it out, replied, "Not that busy, and Samuel is currently MIA. I'm worried he might sneak off to find you, so it's best to be cautious."
"I'm good, he'll..." Victoria started, attempting to persuade Edward. In truth, she was secretly hoping Samuel would appear. If he did, maybe she could assist Edward with some issue.
But Edward cut her off before she could finish.
In a somewhat authoritative tone, he stated, "Can't I come get my wife?"
Victoria was taken aback.
Raising an eyebrow, he pressed, "Or do you actually mind me picking you up?"
Victoria hesitated to admit she didn't mind.
She shook her head, "Of course, I like it."
Content, Edward nodded and matter-of-factly declared, "If my wife enjoys it, then I should definitely be the one picking you up."
Victoria's mouth twitched involuntarily.
Why did that sound so odd?
But Edward had already turned away, so she decided not to dwell on it.
Glancing at Edward engrossed in his notebook, Victoria furrowed her brow slightly.
She assumed he was working and didn't want to disturb him, but from the corner of her eye, she caught a glimpse of the computer screen.
That peek left her even more surprised.
She hadn't expected Edward to be delving into psychological content. It seemed that the injury had deeply affected him, especially concerning the child.
Victoria felt a mix of heartache and helplessness.
She wanted to help Edward completely resolve his psychological issues, but Lenora had mentioned that sometimes the doctor's role was just one part, and the patient's determination was crucial.
While most of Edward's problems had been sorted out, there were still a few lingering ones he had to tackle on his own.
After all, he was the one most familiar with those details.
Lenora had attempted to get him to open up, but Edward's inner resistance was strong.
So, everything had to wait until he could overcome it himself.
Despite her concerns, Victoria didn't push for answers.
She quietly shifted her gaze to the window. If Edward didn't want to discuss something, she would maturely act as if she didn't know.
Perhaps seeking a distraction, the street scenery that usually escaped her notice seemed remarkably vivid at that moment.
She caught sight of Starlight City's bustling square in a glance, and as their car navigated through, it got caught in traffic.
This allowed her to glance at the display on the large screen, which was not an ad but a news segment.
It announced that the artist Sierra would soon be back in the country for an exhibition.
Starting in Starlight City, Sierra's hometown, the exhibition would kick off there.
Although Victoria wasn't familiar with the artist, the name Sierra triggered thoughts of Steven.
Could this person be connected to Steven?
As Edward shut the computer, he noticed her staring out the window lost in thought and inquired, "What's got your attention out there?"
Victoria snapped back to reality, turned her head, smiled, and shook her head, "Nothing."
Seeing her smile, Edward raised an eyebrow and leaned in for a kiss.
"You shouldn't..."
Victoria tried to push him away, but his kiss silenced her protest.
When he released her, she was already blushing. He teased, "Don't worry, I won't devour you."
Victoria rolled her eyes.
Hadn't she been teased enough?
But she kept her complaints to herself. She felt Edward had a mischievous streak. If she voiced her thoughts, he might play along, regardless of their surroundings.
Despite knowing she had embarrassed herself before, Victoria chose to stay silent cautiously.
However, as soon as they stepped into the villa, Victoria wished she could disappear.
"What's all this?"
Victoria felt exposed.
In the vast living room, there were numerous photos of her and Edward in wedding attire.
And some of them were quite intimate.
The forgotten photoshoot memories flooded back as the pictures were on display. It felt like her privacy was laid bare for all to see.
She wanted to shrink into a corner out of embarrassment.
Edward's face briefly showed embarrassment, but it quickly vanished, unnoticed by the oblivious.
"Lila, what's the deal with all this?"
Victoria couldn't help but inquire.
Lila was overjoyed.
"Mrs. Hamilton, these are your and Mr. Hamilton's wedding photos!"
Lila responded matter-of-factly.
Victoria sighed, "I know they're wedding photos, but why are there so many out on display?"
Lila hesitated, "Mrs. Hamilton, you've got it wrong. They're not all out on display. The bridal shop just dropped them off, and we were planning to select a couple to hang in the living room."
Hang them up?
Victoria felt a wave of panic.
Edward noticed and squeezed her hand, silently telling her to stay calm.
He then gestured to two frames and suggested, "Let's hang these two and stash the rest away."
Although he found the photos appealing, he didn't want Victoria's beauty to be flaunted to everyone.
Lila swiftly agreed.
She said, "Sure, the others will go in your room."
Victoria wanted to object, but Edward shook his head.
She compromised, "Can we just hang one or two? Let's keep the rest out of sight for now."
Catching Edward's nod, Lila added, "We'll store the others in the third-floor storage room."
Victoria grabbed a few frames, offering, "Lila, I'll give you a hand."
As she headed upstairs, she grumbled inwardly about the old-fashioned photography studio. Weren't photos mostly digital now? Why the albums and so many frames?
"Victoria."
Edward's sudden voice startled her, almost causing the frame in her hand to slip.
Realizing she hadn't voiced her complaints, she took a deep breath, turned around, and asked, "What's up? Is there something else?"
Edward shook his head, then motioned towards the nearby elevator, sighing, "There are too many. Climbing the stairs is a hassle. Let's take the elevator."
Seeing Lila trying to suppress a chuckle, Victoria blushed deeply.
